“Gun Owners, Segregationists, and Jim Sleeper”

You a gun enthusiast? Because if so, that makes you just like a segregationist, according to Yale lecturer in political science Jim Sleeper. The irony being that it was Democrat segregationists in the south who introduced gun control in the first place in order to keep weapons out of the hands of blacks (the Klan was quite fond of this legal maneuvering, for instance) — just as it is today’s

“President Obama to push assault weapons ban in second term”

Being re-elected gives him flexibility, you see.  And you can never let a crisis go to waste. The Hill: President Obama will “actively support” efforts by Democrats to reinstate a federal ban on assault weapons next year, the White House announced on Tuesday. Press secretary Jay Carney said the president would back Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) when she introduces legislation at the opening of the next Congress to ban certain

“Boehner’s House Has Increased Debt $18,944 Per Household”

Pragmatism. Now get your asses in line, Hobbits.  The adults are compromising here.

“Rhode Island prof demands NRA chief’s ‘head on a stick'”

Of course, it’s one thing to demand a person’s head be placed on a stick, and another to go out, subdue that person, and then lop his head off — particularly when you’re dealing with someone you know is probably packing. My advice to the good professor, should he really wish to complete his savagery against a fellow citizen:  bring a bigger gun than the one you’re likely to face.

After debating with progressives for days now, I think I’ve got this gun control thing figured out

Essentially, the progressive argument — which tends to veer toward the predictable (we need to ban “assault weapons,” whatever those are; the Framers never anticipated high-powered weaponry; nobody “needs” a 30 round magazine; the Second Amendment gives power to the government to set up a militia; we need to close the gun show loophole, whatever that is! etc) — comes down to this:  “We’ll tell you what it is you

“The real cost of Obama’s $1.6 trillion tax hike”

We all know the GOP leadership is trying desperately to fold.  But that darn Obama just keeps taking their willingness to “compromise” as a sign of weakness, increasing his demand with every new Boehner offer. Who woulda thunk it?  Besides the stupid unnuanced naive Hobbity Visigoths, I mean? Washington Examiner: “If Boehner had made a revenue offer like this out of the gate, it would have been taken more seriously.”

“Gun Maker’s Stock Soars More Than 700% Since Obama’s Inauguration in 2009”

That’s a lot of betting on just the teabagging black helicopter crowd, as Josh Marshall called us in so many words the other day. And by “us,” I mean me.  But you get the idea. If money talks, a lot of people seem to think that, for whatever the reasons, the last nearly 4-years is a good time to invest in guns.  And in gun makers. Go figure!

“I’m not suggesting we completely abolish the media. But perhaps we should curtail it. Isn’t it time for some common sense media control?” [Darleen Click]

Matt K. Lewis goes Swift. It’s time to have a national conversation… about the media. But first, let’s recount how they’ve blown the coverage of the tragic school shootings in Connecticut: The media originally reported the wrong name of the alleged shooter. (The suspected killer was Ryan Lanza, they breathlessly reported. Turns out it was actually Ryan’s brother, Adam.) Then, some in the media advertised Ryan’s Facebook and Twitter pages.
