“X” marks the end

Sadly, after a 9-season run, a pop-culture icon will cease production. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the popular TV series “The X-Files” will end its network mission in May of this year, at the conclusion of the current season. Why the abrupt end? Well, “The Truth,” it turns out, wasn’t really “out there” afterall — but had simply slid from the keyring of “X-Files” creator Chris Carter and wedged itself

Love at First Bite…?

Well, here’s something you don’t hear everyday…. “Manuela Ruda is accused with her husband of murdering a 33-year-old man beneath a banner reading ‘When Satan Lives’. The couple then drank their victim’s blood before making love in one of two matching silk-lined coffins they slept in,” according to a story in This Is London. …Must be…Muskrat love…?

He’s got Waxman in his ears…

“Sen. Joseph Lieberman’s former top aide, working as an Enron lobbyist, met three times with the senator’s staff and tried unsuccessfully to arrange a meeting between Enron’s chairman and Lieberman – now leading an investigation of the oil giant,” The AP is reporting. “Lobbyist Michael Lewan served three years as Lieberman’s chief of staff and remains a political adviser, but the relationship won’t affect the Senate Governmental Affairs Committee inquiry,

By comparison, clearthinking anti-war Justin — as a guy who runs a site called anti-war dot something-or-other — is himself quite unique. And racially sensitive. Really, really, racially sensitive. Among other “See? Aren’t I unique and racially sensitive?” insights and revelations you’re likely to cull

Followin’ the Moolah…

“‘A leading financier of the al Qaeda terrorist network has “turned himself in” at the airport in Kandahar, potentially providing a bonanza of intelligence information on the group,’ CNN reports, citing ‘U.S. military sources.’ The unidentified man is in U.S. custody but is not currently considered a detainee.” [link via WSJ “Best of the Web“]

The Dump is on the Left, Redux

“The Taliban Smear,” by The Weekly Standard’s Terry Eastland, highlights yet again the disturbing trend among liberal opinion makers of attempting to tar conservatives with the “Taliban Party” brush. This week’s culprit? The New York Times’ Bill Keller, who — in a story assessing the careers of Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond, and Phil Gramm — writes “that they harnessed their collective century of seniority to the Taliban wing of the

En-yawn

Jonah Goldberg, speaking for those in the punditry with even a modicum of good sense, sums up the Enron affair: The unspoken scandal of the Enron scandal is that the scandalmongers are boring us to death. That’s not to say this isn’t a big, possibly criminal, mess, but until someone can find a little more political there, I’m done with it. Quite. I’ve been debating the Enron “issue” with a
