“X” marks the end

Sadly, after a 9-season run, a pop-culture icon will cease production. The Hollywood Reporter writes that the popular TV series “The X-Files” will end its network mission in May of this year, at the conclusion of the current season.

Why the abrupt end? Well, “The Truth,” it turns out, wasn’t really “out there” afterall — but had simply slid from the keyring of “X-Files” creator Chris Carter and wedged itself between some sofa cushions in the rumpus room of his LA home. Carter suspects this happened “during a particularly wild party” late in 1991. Carter is said to have found the truth early last month while fishing around for some Tropical Fruit Skittles he dropped while watching Bicentennial Man, sources say.

“Boy, do I feel stupid,” Carter told Fox Entertainment executives. “Tell the feds I’m sorry for all that, y’know — innuendo and conspiracy stuff, ‘kay?”

Carter says he’ll likely put a flannel coverall-and-apron set on his couch “to keep something like this from happening again,” the Reporter notes.
