Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Friday repudiated any views of a prominent televangelist who endorsed him last month “if they are anti-Catholic or offensive to Catholics.”
McCain has come under fire since televangelist John Hagee endorsed him on Feb. 27, but until Friday his response had been tepid. The Arizona senator merely said he doesn’t agree with everyone who endorses him. He said Friday he had been hearing from Catholics who find Hagee’s comments offensive.
Hagee, leader of a San Antonio megachurch, has referred to the Roman Catholic Church as “the great whore” and called it a “false cult system” and “the apostate church”  “apostate” means someone who has forsaken his religion.
“We’ve had a dignified campaign, and I repudiate any comments that are made, including Pastor Hagee’s, if they are anti-Catholic or offensive to Catholics,” McCain said.
“I sent two of my children to Catholic school. I categorically reject and repudiate any statement that was made that was anti-Catholic, both in intent and nature. I categorically reject it, and I repudiate it,” McCain said.
So, I’m sure Gleen(s) will be giving credit where it’s due.

If Hagee had come to my mother’s memorial service and proclaimed that because she was Catholic she was going to hell, that’s one thing — they would have needed squeegees and a wet-vac to get him out of there. I’ve been expecting that this would crop back up again. Let’s do remember that Hagee’s endorsement of McCain was unsolicited. McCain’s acceptance of such an endorsement does not suggest that McCain accepts Hagee’s positions. This is important: McCain and Hagee didn’t know each other prior to Hagee’s endorsement.
Conversely, Obama’s church that he has attended for a couple of decades has a decidedly narrow view – and is not remotely mainstream in the context of the traditional Christian point of view. Obama embraces that church and its theology. His kids have been baptized into it. He was married into it. His house (and maybe the adjoining landlocked Rezlot next to it) has been blessed by it. And you can hear that battle against oppression in almost everything Michelle Obama speaks in her truth to power.
But, no one’s talking about that, ‘cept me I guess.

FWIW, the Church was no more responsible for the Dark Ages than any other institution. The Western Roman Empire was swamped beneath hordes of barbarians. Contrast that with the Eastern Empire, which was just as Christian — and, initially, just as Catholic — but held onto not only civilization, but its identity as Roman.

I don’t know what wargaming scenarios you are looking at, but thinking the Saudi’s or anybody on that list except Iran would attack Israel if the US hit Iranian nuclear facilities is nuts. Iran or Syria might try, that is why it is important to keep them disarmed.
