Don’t think it’s lost on us that you are the same people who were saying that a vote against debt ceiling increases would be a vote for Obama, and that to hold the line against further increases marked us as naive and unnuanced (right before the credit downgrade you pretended your capitulations would prevent); the same people who called us Hobbits for demanding the GOP stay good to its word
January 2012
A note to the GOP leadership and all the establishment conservatives who will now begin telling us it’s our duty to rally around Mitt Romney
New Hampshire inevitability, open thread
My son is listless and has a stomach ache this morning, and his temperature is registering about a degree and a half low. He says he’s shaking, but “on the inside.” I’ve let him go back to bed and I want to keep a close monitor on him. So for now, feel free to entertain yourselves in a manner you see fit. Sorry for any inconvenience. I realize that news
“Indiana Senate committee passes Right-to-Work bill; Unions protest while Democrats boycott”
Same old story, same old story, same old song and dance, my friend.
“Idaho Couple Challenges Power of EPA to Say They Can’t Build Home on Their Own Land”
I know what you’re all thinking: The headline-as-performative for both the tenuousness of liberty and the natural desire of a power-hungry central authority to use any and every instrumentality of government to expand its size, reach, and control, that one is. And you’d be right. So good going. CNS: In 2005, Michael and Chantell Sackett were working toward what many American families work toward, their own home on their own
Can of worms, (re-)open!
RS McCain: The originators and leading advocates of feminism have always seen themselves, and properly so, as part of the Progressive Left. Feminists have therefore contested any and all attempts by conservatives to co-opt and redefine the term “feminism” as something compatible with conservatism. Yet there are many soi-disant conservatives who, desirous of seeming fashionably modern and perhaps insufficiently knowledgeable of feminism’s leftist origins, persist in claiming that conservatives who
It’s with a heavy heart that I pass the news along…
A wonderful father, husband, and man — and long a friend to pw and to the family of commenters here — Brian Teixeira, passed away today. Best wishes and prayers from my family and the protein wisdom family go out to his family, whom he loved so very dearly and who so very dearly loved him in return. I’ll update with information on funeral, etc., as I find out more.

Because not everybody wants to talk about how Ann Coulter or some other of our big conservative opinion leaders could possibly pretend Mitt Romney is conservative. Eh, screw it. Maybe the feckless and impotent GOP who stood before us in 2008 and told us the era of Reagan is over were right. And maybe the reason is precisely because that’s what they wanted.
Is Santorum’s social conservatism a problem? Or is it a step in the right direction, constitutionally speaking? Discuss
A couple interesting comments from “an erstwhile reader,” Rachel, who in an earlier thread expresses her concern over my support for Bachmann and Santorum, the gist being that my site has evolved from a classical liberal venue to one in which I and many of the regulars here are somehow something else these days. She writes in her second comment: Jeff, thanks for the well-reasoned reply. From what I’ve read
Greetings and Salutations
Just popping back in real quick to note that Satch placed 4th in the district tournament today and will go on to the regionals in two weeks. He’d like to thank you all for the birthday wishes — though admittedly he thought it kind of strange that so many people he doesn’t know are interested in his birthday. Next up for us is a pizza and Nerf Gun party this
I get emails, redux
From erstwhile Moby “RyanBacon,” who doesn’t much like that he can’t get back on to comment under his latest identity: Jeff, I hate to break it to you, but your little circle of sycophants is suffering from some serious PMS. I think you’re all beginning to realize that yes, Romney will be your nominee, as soon as he disposes of Santorum and Gingrich. Gosh, that’s a funny sentence to write.
