Well, because I hadn’t heard from him in a while, I emailed Isaac Schrodinger to see how things were going for him. He sent me this nice reply: Life has been good. The hearing was on my birthday. It was a brutal day but it ended well: I was told that I’m now a Canadian convention refugee. I am aiming to publish the whole experience in a giant post tomorrow.

Wherein I Repent to Pandagon [Dan Collins; UPDATED]
Darleen brings notice that I have been noticed by Pandagon in the most flattering way possible: Oh Dan, you should feel honored… St Amanda of Fornicatus has discovered you With that in mind, I stopped by Protein Wisdom to entertain myself watching the wingnuts do anything but that. Protein Wisdom is where you go to see people treat an opportunity for self-reflection with the same regard they would reserve for
Easy Like Sunday Morning [Dan Collins]
At the top of the news, of course, is the revelation that Israel has plans for a tactical nuke strike against Iranian nuclear facilities. Much more surprising, LGF gives kudos to Barbara Boxer for rescinding an award that would have gone to a CAIR official (h/t Allahpundit). CAIR officials are predictably outraged: “The entire issue is going back to Israel,†Awad adds. “If you love Israel, you’re OK. If you
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Winter Park… (CraigC)
DENVER (AP) – A huge avalanche knocked two cars off a mountain pass Saturday on the main highway to one of the state’s largest ski areas, shortly after crowds headed through on the way to the lifts, authorities said. Eight people were rescued from the buried vehicles and all were taken to area hospitals, said state Patrolman Eric Wynn. Details of their conditions were not available. “Our crews said it
Murder Martyr [Dan Collins]
File under disgusting. Hassan Fattah, writing in the NYT, tells us that Saddam’s bravery on the gallows has turned him into a martyr for “many” in the “Arab world”: In the week since Saddam Hussein was hanged in an execution steeped in sectarian overtones, his public image in the Arab world, formerly that of a convicted dictator, has undergone a resurgence of admiration and awe. A labor federation in Tunis
Wherein I Apologize to Greenwald [Dan Collins]
Certain commenters seem a bit exercised that I’ve been so mean to GiGi, so I’d like to make it up with a big, musical group hug. And what could say Greenwald better than Rod McKuen and Oliver? Gleen, Gleen, Feingold has read From your blog on the screen And the Senators know How you touched him, and so You’re famous and stuff, darling Gleen Gleen, Gleen, you’ve written a book
Home Again, Home Again: Ruby Slippers Edition [BRD]
Hi!! Happy New Year!! We’re back, I’m tired, I’m not Glen Reynolds and therefore really can just hang up the posting for the night after what, one, two sentences? In any case, we’ll continue to update the Christmas in Darfur Blog. And most importantly of all, I would like to thank all of you for your generous support, without which this could have been a significantly more… complex enterprise. For
Glenn Greenwald: Arbiter of Truth, Justice, American Way [Dan Collins]
I hesitate to take this up, because to fully fisk Greenwald/Ellison/Ellensburg/et al’s latest screed would take much more time than I have at the moment. The Great Sock-Puppeteer is throwing down the gauntlet to the entire right-wing blogosphere over the identification of a Jamil Hussein who is indeed a police officer in Iraq and is presumably the source of various stories proffered to and published by the AP. I wrote
Daniel Schorr’s Enormous Ass [Dan Collins]
is hanging out. In an article entitled, Backsliding on Ford’s ban on assassination in the Christian Science Monitor, the Ancient Mariner Schorr discusses how Ford signed an executive order banning “political assassinations.” According to Schorr: Since then, an executive order signed by Ford has banned US government employees from engaging in, or conspiring to engage in, political assassination. But after 9/11, President Bush issued a “finding” which makes exceptions from
A Terrible Thing to Waste [Dan Collins]
When Gramps died, Dad and I drove down to Crystal Lake to help pack up his stuff, and on the way back, Dad told me the story of a conversation that he’d had with his father. Uncle Jim was off serving in the occupation of Japan, and Dad was heading off to college at Notre Dame. Gramps said: “You know, education–if you make the most of it, you study hard,
