Dems 2008: Demolition soap opera, p.m. edition [Karl]

TPM’s Greg Sargent is among those printing a supposedly “private” letter from Hillary Clinton’s big donors to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, criticizing her public suggestions that superdelegates should support the winner of the pledged delegate count and demanding that she “clarify” her coments and ” a more open view” toward the “independent” choices of superdelegates.

Meanwhile, undecided and pledged superdelegates are being turned off by Clinton’s bogus claims about being under sniper fire in Bosnia and the “Tonya Harding” tactics the Clinton camp is employing against Barack Obama.  (Another instance of blowback from Clintonian über-spin.) However, as noted this morning, Hillary Clinton’s best chance of winning the nomination is to make Obama seem unelectable, presenting the superdelegates with little choice — even those complaining now.  Brendan Nyhan also explains why there is no incentive for any party leader to do more than Pelosi has already done to nudge Clinton out of the race.  The pushback from Team Clinton against Pelosi is merely a case example of why the Democrats’ demolition soap opera runs at least through May.

    Karl:

You might have covered this before, but is there any indication that the Clintons were involved in elevating the Jeremiah Wright issue to the point that it was finally picked up by the MSM?

I ask, because this seems to be exactly the kind of “Tonya Harding” tactic they would employ at this point.

this suggests the sniper stuff really hurt her

    also…from that article.
“On one of the most critical questions we’ve been tracking for a few months, Obama showed resilience.”

resilience is very important, i think.
    i said that before.

Pelosi buys Tibet and causes earthquakes. Obama and Farr had trips to Columbia to secretly meet with socialists at the expense of foreign intelligence:

Larry and Curly were pretty resilient when Moe lost control.

  8. Karl says:

    From the poll nishi cites:

On that issue specifically, 32 percent of voters overall said Obama “sufficiently addressed the issue,” while 26 percent of folks believe he needs to address the Wright controversy further; 31 percent did not see the speech or had no opinion.

Interestingly, of those voters who said they saw the speech, 47 percent said Obama sufficiently addressed the Wright issue while 37 percent said he needs to address it further. Among whites, 45 percent were satisfied with Obama’s explanation, 38 percent were not. Among blacks, 67 percent said the speech was sufficient, while 25 percent want him to address it further.

That’s one leaky basement for the general election.

  9. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Pelosi is irrelevant in this election. The nutroots have already been cut loose by both camps. Maybe they can run Lamont on a Marxist ticket.

    – Clinton cannot win without the Black vote. plus a reasonable amount of Independents and crossover. Obama cannot win without the womans vote, plus a reasonable amount of independent and crossover. Ergo, neither side has a chance without the others support. Neither camp is going to let go of the nomination, short of their cold dead fingers. No dream ticket here. Super de;egates will be forced to vote the home states demands, hut to survive themselves. Tell Me again about May. Its all over but the looting.

  10. Big Bang Hunter (pumping you up) says:

    – Oh, and in case that wasn’t a full up plate of disaster, they’ll always have Florida and Michigan to help it all along.

  11. Michigan says:

    Glad to help.

  12. Florida says:

You can always count on us !

  13. Democrat National Committee says:

    – Your gallant loyalty and support is the reason you’ll always find us working hard to protect your voting rights.

    – Most excellent grand DNC potentate – Howard Dean

  15. […] it is entirely apt to describe the silly spectacle of Hillary Clinton’s fundraisers writing a nasty note to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi over her suggestions that superdelegates should support the winner […]
