A Christmas Conundrum, Take Two (CraigC)

I just posted this, and it ended up about six posts down, so I’m trying again.  If this works, I’ll delete the other one.

Maggie links to the worst version ever of “O Holy Night.” The story is that this is supposedly an audition tape sent in to some Christian group, but I don’t know.  Personally, I think it’s deliberately bad, but who knows?  If it is, it certainly doesn’t take away from its delicious awfulness.

It put me in mind of the infamous Linda McCartney tape.  The story there was (again, supposedly) that Linda insisted on singing backup on Wings tours, so Paul let her, but instructed the sound guys to bury her in the mix.  One night, perhaps after smoking whatever they could find in Paul’s duffel bag, they decided to have some fun and isolate Linda’s mike during “Hey Jude.” The result embarassed coyotes everywhere.  Don and Mike used to play the tape regularly on their show.  I searched around for it, and found it here.  This guy thinks it may be a hoax, but there’s no evidence either way.

I really, really wanted to include Yoko in my little survey, preferably “Cold Turkey” from Live Peace in Toronto, or “Don’t Worry, Kyoko, Mummy’s Only Searching For Her Hand in the Snow,” the B-side of the studio version, but I couldn’t find any downloads.  That’s one thing about Yoko, she keeps a tighter grip on her music rights than Oliver Willis hanging on to a Ding Dong.

Regardless, we’re left with these two gems.  So, tell me:  Which one is worse/better?  As always, please show your work.

AHHH! AHHH! MY EARS!! BURNING!! BURNING!!

    CURSE YOU CRAIGC!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeesh! I’m so glad that you didn’t find any of the Yoko recordings and I would like to thank her profusely for closely holding on to her “music.” *shudder*

Again I say, seek out the Who’s Line in which Wayne Brady channels Yoko. It’s a scream!!

As I swab what’s left of my molten brain from the floor, I’m going to go with O Holy Night. Having screened talent tapes for a Christian youth group this one sounds “right.” In other words, it is amusing in its painful wrongness.

Now let’s agree never, ever, ever to do this again!!

Thank God for YouTube.  This is one of my favorite one-hit bands.  Worst song on the album, IMO.

God, can you imagine what the rest of them were thinking?  Love the hat, though.
