From the AP:
Saudi officials told Syrian President Bashar Assad on Thursday that he must fully withdraw troops from Lebanon and begin soon or face strains in Saudi-Syrian ties. Assad promised only to study the idea of a partial withdrawal by later this month.
The kingdom took a tough line as Assad met with the Saudi leader, Crown Prince Abdullah, and other officials in Riyadh. So far, Damascus has resisted Arab pressure for a quick pullout from Lebanon.
THE ARAB WORLD IS UNITING AGAINST YOU, MR BUSH! THEY WILL RISE AS ONE AND FORM A PAN-ARAB THEOCRACY THAT WILL ATTACK THE WEST UNTIL ITS CITIES RUN RED WITH BLOOD!
Hey, I’m as big a proponent of applying strong diplomatic pressure to the Saudi regime as the next guy—but in lieu of that regime’s enacting more substantive reforms, I’m happy, for the time being, to watch them try to hold off the inevitable by changing the subject to the failings of other countries, then exert their influence over those despotic regimes in the region in order to promote our aim of spreading freedom throughout the mideast.

YOU’RE DESTROYING THE WORLD, MR BUSH!
Dude,
Did you see how the leftosphere is reacting to the news about the 1,500th US death? O.W. “1,500 American lives. For what? I hope George Bush can’t sleep at night.”
For what indeed, Ollie.
“THEY WILL RISE AS ONE”
To say nothing of the GAY PORN COCK!, eh Jeff?
That is HUGE, Diana. Even though them Ay-rabs are born liars. Still, it’s amazing what can happen when there’s a big dog on the scene who shows everybody that he’s willing to bloody noses, isn’t it?

And I thought I was fortunate to have witnessed the rush of historical changes that accompanied the fall of the Berlin Wall and the end of the Soviet Union! Sometimes you can just hear the wheels of history creaking.
At risk of venturing into “get your own blog” territory, I’ll say that this feels like the early 90s, what with all the historical dissonance in the air. Richard Nixon went to post-communist Russia on an elder statesman visit, and stopped in on some Soviet-era ex-officials he knew. For this, he was criticized in the Moscow newspapers. Now, imagine yourself as an adult in 1972, privileged to go forward twenty years in time, to read newstories about Richard Nixon being kicked around in the Russian press for hanging around with communists. Hell, imagine yourself as a 1988 adult doing that! Reading about Saudi princes trying to ease Syria out of Lebanon, in order to decrease terrorism, has the same weird effect for me.
Turing word “wife”, as in I hope Martha Stewart can keep in touch with her prison wife.

spam word: stop
I’ve not mentioned it … but I just love the title of this series. It is just too wonderful. I have to pause from preventing myself from using it in conversation.
