    11. “Ooohhh, ‘GENOCIDE.’ We thought you were asking if it was ‘Telluride,’ and it obviously isn’t a film festival.”

  2. ChrisinAlabama says:

The UN apparently believes that Jennocide is only something that Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck are capable of.

  3. JWebb says:

Just for the record, there is genocide here in Telluride; genocide of conservatives who will not be tolerated.

UN commission finds Sudanese Government responsible for crimes in Darfur

1 February 2005 – A report by a United Nations-appointed commission of inquiry into whether genocide has occurred in Sudan’s war-torn Darfur region has found that the Government and Janjaweed militia are responsible for crimes under international law and strongly recommends referring the dossier to the International Criminal Court (ICC).

While concluding that the Government has not pursued a policy of genocide, the Commission found that Government forces and militias “conducted indiscriminate attacks, including killing of civilians, torture, enforced disappearances, destruction of villages, rape and other forms of sexual violence, pillaging and forced displacement.”

  7. mojo says:

Oh, goody. Now we get treated to a long, drawn-out practical demonstration of just how toothless a bag of swamp gas the ICC is.

  8. Diana says:

I guess “rape and pillage” are just some beneficient response to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness”.  Right, Ward Churchill!

  11. Dr Zen says:

The UN is stuck with the definition of genocide the US lumbered it with, when the latter didn’t want its clients labelled as the genocidalists they were.

You make the bed and you whine at the UN for lying in it. Just another product of the short-termism, both in memory and projection, that the right indulges in. If it’s much past, you’ve forgotten it; if it’s much future, you don’t care about it.

  12. Of course, all this leaves us open to the charge of why aren’t we doing anything about it.

  13. Jeff Goldstein says:

I MADE THE BED AND THEN I WHINED.  I AM A SHORT-TERMIST.  DAMN ME!  DAMN ME STRAIGHT TO HELL!

I don’t want to get too serious here of all places, but The Sanity Inspector – the answer to your charge is possibly because we’ve just done “something about it” in Iraq and got absolutely bollocksed for it on an international level. If the US goes into Darfur, the cries of “IMPERIALISM!” are going to become that much louder.

Well, jeez, come on people, it’s not like Nurse Zen actually gives a fuck about the little brown and black people of Africa.  He’s getting a boner by just imagining the US being hoisted on some imaginary petard.  And if hundreds of thousands of Sudanese have to be murdered for his pleasure, well, what the fuck, who cares, he gets to bitch about Republicans.  And, hell, bitching about Repblicans is sure as hell a lot more important in his cramped, nasty little world than worrying about the fate of a couple of million Africans.

Far be it from him to actually give a flying fuck about the “dusky” people from the third world.  Well, other than when he’s trying to pick up a black $50 hooker who will let him perform “clean up” duties.  Then, he cares; he really, really cares.

    How about “The Final Solution”?

I just finished a book called The Good Old Days (Die Schone Zeite in the original German).

In 1941/1942 there were large scale killings of undesirables (aka Jews) by the Germans and other nationalities (Ukraine, Baltic States) using clubs and bullets, well before the killing factories were set up. These killings were pretty much ignored by everyone.

It is sickening to see this happen again and again.

BTW, an important justification for setting up the killing factories was that it was just too stressful on the executioners to shoot people (innocent old men, women ,children, infants) individually. To make things worse, even to the Germans of that era, men who enjoyed this sort of work were repugnant. So, technology to the rescue.

It if of interest to note that this has not been a problem so far in Dafur, and was never a problem in Rwanda.

They blame Bush for making the situation worse.

Once again, the jihadists adopt our own domestic moonbats’ tactics.
