Reid, Dems call for 5% tax hike on people who make over $1 million to "pay" for Obama's Jobs bill

Or, in other words, Reid and the Dems propose to vote on a bill that allows them to take money from private citizens and manage it themselves, divvying it up in order to, in effect, purchase the kinds of jobs they believe the market needs. Like for instance, more solar panel factories, or more money for teachers (and therefore teachers’ unions. And therefore right back to the Dems, newly laundered).

But don’t dare call this plan to up the tax rate on those already paying the lion’s share of taxes — under the Orwellian notion of “shared sacrifice” in which the “rich” are commanded to begin paying their “fair share” — class warfare. And don’t call such attempts at central planning, using the “rich” as scapegoats even as the legislation you propose is intended to kill the job creating bourgeoisie and expand the scope of government, “socialist” or “Marxist.”

That’s unhelpful.

And we wouldn’t want to frighten away the independents and moderates, lest they go running into the arms of socialists and Marxists as punishment against us for our having pointed out the socialism and Marxism.

I guess mentioning the fate of the kulaks is right out of bounds too — but hey, that just means that in their negation the kulaks won’t have died in vain, but are serving a living purpose in being unmentionable.

  2. LTC John says:

The D’s could just simplify the bill’s name – “Gosplan”.

    Jeff, Jeff, Jeff,
You simply aren’t grasping that the Obama Administration’s frequent punitive punishment of success and rewarding of sloth, incompetance and cronyism is not, in software parlance, a “BUG”, it’s a “FEATURE”.

    Capiche?

  4. Carin says:

Let’s call a vote on it today.

  5. Ernst Schreiber says:

The money for solar panel factories gets laundered much the same way as the money passing through the future Democrat captive constituent factories. At least it does when Democrat bundlers are also green tech venture “capitalists.”

I think my boss is a millionaire. I guess Reid is going to get my raise.

  7. sdferr says:

After all, we have investments we need to fund:

“Apparently the loan size for Phase II is $469 million,” one Office of Management and Budget analyst wrote of DOE seeking a second loan for Solyndra. The analysts’s name was not released by the committee. “I’ve been told we should expect the see that project soon for conditional commitment.”

Wouldn’t want those greedy millionaires to be getting all the boon from such enterprises by pursuing their own investments.

“Today” is a relative term, isn’t Carin?

And Lee, you’re supposed to be happy that Reid is getting your raise because your boss is a greedy sumbitch who was probably going to keep it for himself anyways!

  9. Carin says:

LB, how could you live with yourself if you got a raise, while all those poor kids were out there occupying Wall Street?

I hear they need sleeping bags. Perhaps we could get together a care package?

Awww. How did the poor dears make their needs knows? Tweeted it from their iPhones, p’raps? Or posted a video to their YouTube channel after recording it on their Flip cameras? In between sipping half-caf triple-shot skinny soy mocha lattes, no doubt.

  11. cranky-d says:

I’m thinking of getting together a bunch of “I don’t care” packages for those kids. I await suggestions on what to put in them.

  12. mojo says:

Sounds an awfully lot like a “bill of attainder”, don’t it?

For a “This Is What I Think Of You and Your Actions” package, I was thinking, keep it simple. Bag of dog poop. My German Shepherd and Golden Retriever are both very excited to contribute.

  15. Slartibartfast says:

Bills of attainder target specific people or groups. If a 5% surtax is a bill of attainder, so is any progressive tax.

If that’s the case, so be it.

But in reality: it’s not important. The 5% tax is just a hunk of red meat for the base, and will result in less than a hundred billion in annual revenue. It will solve nothing.

The sooner people see this posturing for what it is, the sooner they can all start talking about throwing the bastards out of office.

  16. Carin says:

I like Darth’s suggestions. Dave’s suggestion is not so good, because I imagine the lazy fuckers would just leave the crap right there on Wall street.

Do we have any reports to what their campground currently looks like?

W/o their mommies there to pick up after them, I imagine it may be rank.

  17. Slartibartfast says:

Oops. Bills of attainder more specifically declare someone or some group guilty of one or more crimes. I don’t think progressive taxation counts. At least, I don’t think anyone has been able to make that case with sufficient force for it to be legally recognized.
