Optimistically, our college has a new “Peace Studies” program (what a huge joke!). But I keep being surprised by how many died-in-the-wool liberal academics who also happened to serve in the military (many from poorer backgrounds, folks of color, in sociology programs) who thought Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution was going to be a good thing, but since have realized it was just another venue for dumping on soldiers. They are now being treated not very well by the Peace Studies folks, and are starting to have big awakenings about this program, their “friends,” and the political party that they’ve supported for so long. Decent folks can only see so much of this kind of behavior before they realize it’s not an isolated incident.
Michael Mulvey, a high school algebra teacher in Wauwatosa — the town Walker represented for a decade in the Legislature here — lapped the circular balcony over the main floor with a sign that read, “Scott, I taught your son algebra. My son just turned 5. Does he deserve a good education?”
I don’t get it: is the point that Mr Mulvey can only provide a decent education to his students if his students’ parents promise to provide him with free Viagra for life?
Seems to me they already pay him a salary and provide a generous compensation package, including premium medical and retirement. Asking them to chip in is too much?
Hmm. Were I his student, I’d bring this argument up every time he expected me to do homework in order to improve my algebra skills. Sorry, no. THAT’S YOUR JOB, TEACH!
Hmmmph. Those jeering students cause me to ponder various maladies that could afflict them for the remainder of their lives; such pondering brings a smile to my stone face. I wish they wouldn’t act like they do; they don’t really deserve leprosy or maxillofacial pathologies. Just an application of python boots to their backsides would probably suffice.
They stood blocking the way, leaving only a narrow two-person-wide space for thousands to funnel through. It was scary, claustrophic, and made me feel panicked. They glared, yelled, and one guy pushed me so hard I flew two feet forward. I thought my husband was going to lose it, so we stopped and just stood to the side where we were. I watched a lot of people from the rally pass in front of me experiencing the same thing. I saw middle class, working class people who looked liked my sister, my mother, my son or daughter, my neighbors… being taunted and intimidated by a mob hoping to provoke mayhem or violence. I looked for police help to secure a path or help with our exit, but I only saw them standing in isolated clusters amongst themselves, the nearest over 50 feet away from the crowd.
Ah, the best and the brightest, eh? A gaggle of Trustafarians jeering at someone tougher and more self sacrificing than they could ever hope to be. Whether they know it or not, they provided quite a moment of education for those watching.
Someday as they proudly sally forth wielding their Gender Studies diplomas and Social Worker certifications, they will truly make a difference! Right?
Disgusting!
