Cultural indoctrination, redux

Kathy Griffin — who was famously jeered while taking shots at Bristol Palin — has decided to move her schtick to more friendly environs, and will play “Tammy Jean, a conservative home-schooling Tea Party candidate rumored to be based on Sarah Palin,” on an upcoming episode of “Glee.”

So brave.

Millions of teenage girls — and one grown man in fuzzy bunny slippers nibbling a boutique cupcake — will squeal with delight that week, thankful that they aren’t as hickish and bigoted and stupid and hate-filled as a conservative, home-schooled Tea Partier with a twangy delivery.

Bitter clingers worthy of scorn and hatred. Enemies. This is how the “progressives” think of us, people.

The time for talking to them or reasoning with them is over. They are spoiled children we’ve allowed to run wild. It’s spanking time.

(thanks to Brian Carey)

You mean d list psuedo-celebrities are going to make fun of my beliefs and values?

    I’m crushed.

Boy it sure is a good thing that all that “culture war” talk was just the ravings of an angry-white man. If it were true, it might be enough to drive lesser men to seek comfort in boutique confectionaries.

  2. Abe Froman says:

They’ve been repeating the same joke for over two years and still giggle like idiots with each telling. It’s too bad that most conservatives are so damned linear because rattling the left wouldn’t be all that difficult.

  3. Ernst Schreiber says:

I’m not following you Abe? What do you mean by linear? And I guess I think of the left as already rattled, because the acting out, in all it’s forms, isn’t a sign of cultural confindence.

  4. Jeff G. says:

Anyone else notice that sdferr has been absent since happy was asked to leave?

I’m a healer. Bringing people together since Dec 2001.

  5. John Bradley says:

“I’m going to pretend that I don’t understand what you mean by that. Could you please restate your position, over and over again?”

  6. LBascom says:

“spanking time” doesn’t seem right to me. I’m thinking more like Red in That 70’s Show, “foot in your ass!”, kind of thing.

  7. Ernst Schreiber says:

I think sdferr threw up his hands and walked away during one of the back-and-forths on the merit (or lack of) of Mitch Daniels 2012, just prior to the pikachu having his fluff handed to him (so to speak).

    I’m hoping he’ll be back.

  8. Abe Froman says:

Did you read Jeff’s post, Ernst? Palin doesn’t get repeatedly mocked and attacked because of a lack of confidence on the left. It’s a combination of genuine hatred and insularity. The post was about culture, not politics specifically, and the way you rattle an insular culture is by invading their space.

  9. Ernst Schreiber says:

It’s the “linear” part I’m not comprehending Abe. Sorry. Not trying to be a pain in the ass here, just looking for clarification. By linear, do you mean too focused on politcal institutions?

  10. LBascom says:

Sdferr? Nah, haven’t seen him, but it’s only been a few days.

    He fishes some I think.

  11. Abe Froman says:

No. I mean that the right generally stays on their side of the tracks. If you want to make a joke out of the left, you have to do it in their own cultural terms. Say, sending a “pimp” with a video camera into ACORN and planned Parenthood offices. Or the more benign example of plastering Obama Joker posters around Los Angeles.

  12. Ernst Schreiber says:

Understood. Thanks for bringin’ me the f’ing knowledge!

  13. Big D says:

Happyfeet was escorted from the premises? When did this happen?

  14. Abe Froman says:

That’s great, newrouter. We need a lot more people to start getting it. Anything that simultaneously mocks their pieties and their cartoon notions of who conservatives are at the same time is a win.

  15. serr8d says:

Sdferr’s last site comment. He didn’t seem perturbed so much. But I wondered at times: was sdferr also ‘feets? Seems he could likely pull that off if he wanted to.

  16. Bordo says:

Happyfeet was escorted from the premises? When did this happen?

    Yeah, what happened?

  17. serr8d says:

Oh, here’s that one, Bordo. Won’t be the first site he’s found himself kicked off; I heard Hot Air and some California lawyer’s site tossed him too. He could be remarkably inflammatory. But not a virulent and malignant as thor. No one could approach thor. Now he’s got a movie coming out. Figures.

  18. LBascom says:

Speaking of culture, VDH has a good article up.

Democracy, then, uses political machinery to establish and advance the will of the people. To do this, people have to be free publicly to speak their minds, deliberate, and debate on issues and aims. More important, individuals whose views lose out are still protected, their rights still sacrosanct in the public square. Hence the need for tolerance, meaning not the approval of ideas one dislikes, but acceptance of their right to express them, based on nothing other than the fact that the person is human and by definition possesses that right.

Great article. Thanks for posting it LBascom!

In other media news, thought you’d appreciate the below link, Jeff (though I imagine you’ve already got all of these on blu-ray):

    http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/article/kubrick-collection-coming-to-blu-ray-with-lolita-and-barry-lyndon

Coming May 31. Plus according to plan, will include a 40th anniversary edition of your striking avatar’s story. ;-)

  21. geoffb says:

    Sdferr is not happyfeet, period.

  22. serr8d says:

qdpsteve, that might be the final straw that forces me to buy a blu-ray player. Dammit.

  23. qdpsteve says:

serr8d: same here. Now all I have to do is find one that’s made in the USA.

    Oh, wait…

  24. Mike LaRoche says:

I heard Hot Air and some California lawyer’s site tossed him too.

Happyfeet was banned from Patterico’s blog, too? When did that happen?

  25. serr8d says:

I heard that at Dan’s place, Mike, I don’t have any direct info from a certain shithole blog in California. I’m banned there too, I think. If not, I haven’t worked hard enough at it.

  26. Danger says:

    “Sdferr is not happyfeet, period.”

    Second the motion.

If sdferr is making a statement with his absence I doubt it was in reference to happyfeet’s departure.

If he does have a beef I believe that he will man up and let Jeff know.

  27. David Block says:

I saw the Palin post on Hot Air where Allah gave the boot to happyfeet. Late last year.

That boy has the Palin hate REAL BAD.

  28. Danger says:

    “some California lawyer’s site”

I just checked and happyfeet posted there today. Maybe things will be different there for him but I doubt it.

Nice line there, and nice juxtaposition.
(I doubt the teenage girls will make any connection. They’re too self-referential to make any connection to any other person.)

  30. Mikey NTH says:

    #28 David Block:

Yeah, I saw that one, and you could see it coming a mile away, the swing was so telegraphed. For someone who is supposedly in marketing and is concerned about ‘optics’ he really couldn’t sell his ideas where he was peddling them.

    Odd guy, that one.

  31. guinsPen says:

    Queer, even.
