I can’t have music on, because I have to listen to it. That’s especially true of performers like Loggins, who actually reward the attention. It doesn’t help that my hearing has some odd-shaped holes in the spectrum, which means I can rarely actually hear the lyrics.
As a result, I don’t at the moment have a music playing device on hand other than the computer speakers, and I’m the last person I know to get computer sound working. Acts like Brooks & Dunne, pretty much the (musical version of the) difference between “illustration” and “art” as represented by Loggins, are something I can break away from and think about other things.
My older boys have Scout meetings in a church that has a HUGE painting of a Top Gun era Kenny Loggins in the sanctuary. Spiky mullett and all. I make the same joke every time I see it* and I’ve been waiting for someone to punch me in the face but I guess those godbotherers have a higher tolerance than my wife.
BW Stevenson does an excellent cover of this song, as well.
I like BW Stevenson’s My Maria much more than I did the two pretenders’ recent version. Can’t think of their names, damn.
Brooks and Dunne.
Not really zen, I think. More like an epitaph.

Eh.
Not talentless, but really? 1971?
I hear there were some decent acts as far back as the 18th Century, rho. I kid thee not.
Does anybody but me hear a similarity?

Ric

* Do they know it’s Messina not Messiah?
Heh.
Nothing good came out of the 1970s. Well, me. But that’s it.
And Stretch Armstrong.
Sorry rho, but no way you came out of the ’70’s. You and gamma and eta and omega and all the rest go back a lot longer than that.

Close counts.
Just a great song. Finding no takers, like yesterday’s paper / she leaves, and takes the backdoor out.
What I like is the payoff.
Give her my smile
and my coat to a soul worth saving
and see for me
she finds her way back home…
Wishing people in Hell corrodes your own soul. They’re just as much out of your way in the other place.

Yeah, that’s good too.
