Broad brush

“If Republicans are tired of being called redneck bigots and racist yahoos every time they turn around, then there’s an easy fix: Stop acting that way.”

And if that doesn’t work, the unclean bastards can always throw their support behind social policies that reinforce preference based on race. Because honestly, nothing says “end racism now!” quite like legislation that uses race as the deciding factor in determining government contracts or limited law school slots.

Nuance.

I’m sure any serious news articles this guy helps pen are completely free from bias.

    Completely.

  2. dicentra says:

Yeah. Because as long as Dem transgressions get a free trip to the memory hole, that only leaves the GOP as the racists.

The spirit of liberty is the spirit which is not too sure that it is right. –Judge Learned Hand

Interesting way to end an article full of bald-faced assertions.

  3. fost says:

It’s Confederate History Month! Let’s all read about racism and treason.

  4. Darleen says:

Ok, that was one weird column… he concludes that Republicans should stop acting like their stereotype and that IS the stereotype because it is based on trooooths…but his opening appears to be a mocking of people who attempt to speak the troooooth of what blacks “really are”.

If we are to take his second half seriously, then the ending of his first half should be “if blacks are tired of being seen as shiftless, lazy, ungrateful bastards they need to stop acting like it.”

Who is the racist here again?

  5. Mike LaRoche says:

And if Democrats are tired of being called elitist assholes, then they should stop acting that way.

  6. serr8d says:

In other words, Shut Up. See the Klavan video.

So, because Obama is black, he has a pass to do whatever he likes to my favorite country, right? Anyone with any criticism that might seem harsher than can be tolerated by the judges of the Left is now run through a RAAAAACIST! stereotype-enhancement device, and the criticism is studied for any possible contamination by the dreaded racism! connection. Of course, we knew this going in.

    SHUT UP!

Squid, appearance is reality. As long those people make signs and get filmed, that is what people that watch television see.
People that fear racism will have their conformation bias confimed.
How to change the image of the teabaggers?
You have to educate the base, reform the base.
Homo sapiens sapiens is highly visually oriented……statistics and semiotics wont change anyones mind.
Sure, mebbe its a fringe…..but unless you can muzzle them, they are the Face of the teabaggers.

OTOH, Jeff, they don’t have to stop ACTING that way……they just have to stop BEING CAUGHT ON CAMERA acting that way.

  9. Darleen says:

Oh, Kate Mengele is back with her patented idiocy.

OUt of 30,000 people at a rally, LaRouchies show up with Obama/Hitler signs and TEABAGGERS ARE TEH RACIST!!

I recall some proposals involving camps to do just that. Camps are fun, right? Crafts and lakes and you don’t have to worry about much until it’s time for showers.

  14. ThomasD says:

It is rather difficult to stop acting a certain way, when no matter what you may actually do, your opposition will simply tell you that your actions ‘really’ mean something other than what you think they plainly mean.

    Funny that.

  15. Jeff G. says:

How to change the image of the teabaggers?
You have to educate the base, reform the base.

Judging by what you wrote, the better solution would be a coup of the media’s photography pool.

Much cheaper — and, as you don’t see the problem as propaganda so much as finding ways to avoid being its victim — much more honorable in the postmodern world of anything-goes-cultural-“evolution,” nicht war?

  23. Alec Leamas says:

This “UR ALL TEH RACISS!!11!!1!!” business is the set up for November – they’re issuing a preemptive excuse for why the Democrats will suffer an epic electoral bloodletting. I predict that the talking points after their defeat will have something to do with the Republican House majority being illegitimate because it is the product of racism or a variation on that theme. Just like “Whatsamatta U Kansas” and related talking points, the problem is never with their policies – it’s their “marketing problem” or that the electorate is “scared of change,” ignorant and racist.

  24. geoffb says:

It’s Confederate Democrat Party History Month! Let’s all read about racism and treason.

You would think that a Republican governor who was willing to engage in discussion of the motives and history of the Democrats would be celebrated as a hero of civil discourse!

  31. Squid says:

    Oops. Cookie didn’t stick.

Anyways, I’d love to see a month of asking the Democrats, “How is keeping blacks stuck in the ghetto any different or any better than keeping them stuck on the plantation? How is providing them with food stamps and subsidized housing any better or any different from providing them with plantation housing and plantation food?”

Make those bastards play defense for a while.

  38. fost says:

I just want to hear the exchange. It’s not like I think i’ve found the end all be all explanation that in my mind explains the relationship between blacks and the democratic party and have come up with a trick that will finally get the rubes to see what I have seen. And then they will wake and truth will set them free.

The world doesn’t work like that. I’m just looking to have a little fun and deliver a good youtube and a wonkette headline.

  42. Nishi the Kingslayer says:

Jeff, the culture evolves to reflect the national demographics.
Refusal to evolve is not an option.
You can’t force the culture back into a reflection of a 90% white christian electorate…..that majority doesn’t exist anymore.
In 2008 minority children in the under 5 demographic became a majority.
By 2030 non-hispanic white becomes an electoral minority….and 1/3 of non-hispanic whites vote liberal anyways.
The problem with the GOP racist image is larger than turning off potential conservatives that are minorities…..it turns off youth and college-educated.
Refusal to evolve your party (or police your party) to attract minorities, college-educated, and youth will simply result in extinction.
Again, semiotics and statistics are non-persuasive.
    Visuals are persuasive.

  43. bh says:

In 2008 minority children in the under 5 demographic became a majority.

Heh. Words are tricky. Best stick with pictures.

  44. Mike LaRoche says:

So are logical arguments. You might want to give them a try one of these days.

  45. sdferr says:

Right, the housing market bubble had nothing to do with government interference in the market and pandering to radical minority griefer organizations.

  64. sdferr says:

fost looks like kdash – meya taken up with a new name. Change!

  65. Jeff G. says:

    Still WTFing over this one.

It’s simple: because minority children are now majority children, their minority-ness will push them to vote progressive, even after they take over as the majority. Presumably so they can keep voting themselves shit — even though they will be the Man, and they’ll have to maintain victim status from the position of majority to do so.

The idea being that minorities naturally “evolve” toward progressivism. Even if they happen to be the majority.

Did I say simple? Because I meant simplistic.

  66. Nishi the Kingslayer says:

    lol@bour3
yup, you and Erickericsson and crazipants Michelle Bachman should refuse to return your census forms on principle.
    OUTLAW!

  67. Nishi the Kingslayer says:

    here Jeff, i’ll simplify it.
In 2008 non-hispanic white children under the age of 5 became the minority in the group of all-children-under-five.
    do you understand now?

  68. Jeff G. says:

“HELL NO, WE WON’T GO (TO RESTAURANTS USING TABLE SALT IN THE COOKING OF FOOD, OR EVEN THOSE EARTH-RAPING INCANDESCENT LIGHTBULBS)!”

    OUTLAW!

  69. Silver Whistle says:

Was that a rape metaphor? What colour was the protagonist?

  70. Nishi the Kingslayer says:

    heh, well…..good luck with that.
but i think guerillas beat outlaws everytime.
    subvert from within.

  71. Jeff G. says:

    do you understand now?

I understood before. If in 2008, non-hispanic white children under 5 become the minority of all future grown ups, that would — by extension — mean that the future majority would be those other than non-hispanic white children.

In other words, the “minorities” you always claim go for progressivism out of some kind of warped reading of cultural evolution will no longer be minorities. And yet, they’ll still want free shit. So they’ll have to maintain their victim poses even as they take over the demographic majority. Gonna be hard to keep a straight face trying that.

Which is what I said. Now do you understand?

If the non-hispanic white minority doesn’t play the same game — that is, if they (despite their minority status) still believe in the founding principles and equality of opportunity, it will be up to the new majority to insist that, to keep progressivism solvent, the new minority must vote to get some of the new majority’s shit. That is, the new majority will need to agitate for a politics against their economic interests. Otherwise they just won’t have the numbers to keep the progressive train rolling.

    How’s that gonna work out?

    Science, bitches!

  72. Kresh says:

In 2008 non-hispanic white children under the age of 5 became the minority in the group of all-children-under-five.

As a non-standard (but very good) rule, the simplified statement should not be longer than the original statement (that made no f*cking sense whatsoever).

You got weapons-grade crazy going there.

  73. B Moe says:

In 2008 non-hispanic white children under the age of 5 became the minority in the group of all-children-under-five.
    do you understand now?

Yep. In another couple of decades the majority will be oppressing the minority.

    Rock on.

  74. sdferr says:

Heh, it’s fun to think through the demographics of this scenario.

  75. Silver Whistle says:

Yep. In another couple of decades the majority will be oppressing the minority.

Is that when we get to stick it to the man?

  76. Nishi the Kingslayer says:

Problem one, Nishi, is that “Hispanic” covers a broad cultural swath, ranging from the Mexican illegal immigrant couple who slips the border to cut lawns and produce an “anchor baby” to the Cuban refugee from Castro’s socialist paradise. As such, it is not a monolithic structure.

Problem two, happy lefty land is so far into the red ink that it either has to declare bankruptcy or implode under its own weight — take a good long look at California or Michigan before you decided that socialism is a winning wager, even if, going forward, the nation will have a greater average amount of melanin per capita.

At lunch today, I was explaining to the boss how my team was going to win one way or the other.

“Spending will fall,” said I, “either because we put sane people in the Legislature, or because the Legislature runs out of money. My way hurts a lot right now; your way hurts even worse down the road a little ways.”

Then we had a lively discussion as to the odds of sane people ever being voted into the Legislature (slim to nil), and the odds of whether more blood would be spilled by people wanting their free shit, or by people refusing to pay for the free shit. We couldn’t settle on odds for the last part.

We have interesting lunches in my department.

  95. SporkLift Driver says:

I don’t think you understood what Nishi was getting at. All those kids minority or otherwise are registered and vote (many more than once) as democrats. Same as the dead people, housepets, fictional characters and etc. This gave us Obama in 2008 and means we’ll never see another electoral victory.

  96. (not really) Brian Kiteley says:

    @96 I’M ALARMED!

  97. Jeff G. says:

@97 Oh, I get it, SporkLift Driver. Which is why I said they’ll have to start voting against their own economic interests at some point, because the Dems have the laws set up to give give give shit to minorities.

  100. B Moe says:

Dig it, I am actually starting to look forward to being a minority.

Everything is about race. Everything. The only reason you don’t think this way is because you are white. How did I know that? Because you claimed it had nothing to do with race. It doesn’t have to be about race for you because you are the majority, for everyone else who is not the majority everything comes down to race.

Payback is indeed a fucking bitch.

    Bitch.

  101. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Wow…B Moe, I know a lot of black folk and most of them don’t even feel that way. I am betting JD’s house that the idiot that wrote that is as lily white as they come. He or she is truly the racist because his/her whole life uses race as a filter.

  102. sdferr says:

The same thing here. Rape Race, as a term, is a loaded gun. It means a lot of things to a lot of people. And when you use a loaded term in order to get your point across– a political point, no less– a lot of people are going to be very hostile to it. This culture has become so desensitized to the word and the action, we don’t even really think about it when it’s used in the everyday vernacular. I think that is where your trouble lies.

    Whoopsie.

  103. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Well done, sdferr. Well done indeed.

  104. JD says:

Let’s not go betting Casa JD on things … even if you are right ;-)

  105. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Sorry JD, but betting my house isn’t really much of a bet. As a matter of fact, I’d WANT to lose! JK…I think. How are things?

  106. JD says:

Things are good, OI. Should anyone wish to purchase a home in suburban Indianapolis, Casa JD will be on the market shortly, as Better Half has decided she would like for us to build our dreamhome.

  107. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Nice, congratulations. BTW, how is your little girl? I hope everything is fine. My “little” girl is turning 11 on Tuesday. The time it flies.

  108. JD says:

My little angel celebrated her 2nd birthday today. She is recovering well from her surgeries. Work is good, despite Barcky’s policies crushing investment in products and services such as the ones we offer.

  109. happyfeet says:

    happy birthday!!

  110. geoffb says:

Glad to hear that your young lady is doing well JD.

Also thank you for the recommendation of the show “Justified”. I finally got to watch one this week and am hooked.

  111. sdferr says:

That Elmore has a hand in there geoffb. He got a way with him.

  112. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Fantastic news and Happy Birthday JD’s little angel! It’s great to hear good news…

  113. Bob Reed says:

Thank God that your little Angel is recovering and on the way to wellness again. And also the best of luck selling casa JD and building y’alls new dream house.

What are the salient design points and spec for your dream house?

  114. JD says:

I missed the last 2 Justified’s, and somehow my Tivo did not get them. Any suggestions?

  115. JD says:

Salient design points are wide freaking open great room encompassing the kitchen, hearth room, family room, living room, dining room, and breakfast nook. It has to be a ranch, with a walk out basement. Better Half is in charge of the rest of the details. Casa JD is cool, but a bit large and unwieldy for our family and lifestyle.

  116. geoffb says:

Anyway I can mail it to you? email me.

  117. Bob Reed says:

Casa JD is too big for y’all?

To have all of those spaces wide open, you might consider using a steel superstructure. You can hide it behind any aesthetic that you desire.

  118. JD says:

    Done, and you rock !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  119. sdferr says:

    “Any suggestions?”

They’ll be repeated soon, if not sooner.

  120. bh says:

Oh, hey, happy birthday to your little girl!

  121. geoffb says:

I only half rock as this weeks is the first one I tivoed.

  122. JD says:

We are using steel beams, yes. That is practically the only way to do so and maintain the structure that Better Half desires. Yes, Casa JD is way too big. We realized that there there is slightly over 3000 sf that we utilized for less than 6 hours, in total, during the last year.

  123. Obstreperous Infidel says:

JD, get Uverse. It has never failed me, whereas I had a few hiccups with Tivo. But, maybe Uverse isn’t available yet in your area. If so, disregard.

  124. JD says:

Those little fucking fuckity fuckers what fuck at AT&T have not yet included my neighborhood in the UVerse coverage area, OI. It is not for a lack of effort on my part, to be sure. The subdivision to the west and south of us get to partake of the joys of UVerse.

  125. Bob Reed says:

    Mercy JD,

Casa JD sounds like a mansion! 3000 square feet you only used for 6 hours last year! Wow…

Maybe the Colts could use an extra practice facility :)

  126. JD says:

Bob – It is an alright place, a great deal, a good investment, even in this shitbag economy. We have spent a couple years bringing it back into shape, and even in today’s market, we should be able to turn a pretty good profit on it. I love the place, but Better Half wants something all of our creation. I tend to not get in her way ;-)

  127. Obstreperous Infidel says:

That sucks, JD. I have friends just a few cities over from me, that can’t get Uverse yet, either. It really has been great for us, though. We were one of the first cities in Ohio to get it, so as “innovators” we got our whole house cat5 wired for free. The router has worked flawlessly for 3 years now, too. We’ve had no issues, save for AT&T saying that any minute they are going to unveil a new feature, but that “any minute” turns into 8 to 12 mos. But, I can live with that as long as everything that I have now works as advertised.

  128. JD says:

Tis what I long for, OI.

  129. bh says:

The latest Justified has Cameron from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off in it. It was nice seeing him again. I was worried he’d still be grounded because of the Ferrari incident.

  130. Pablo says:

I missed the last 2 Justified’s, and somehow my Tivo did not get them. Any suggestions?

They’re in the On Demand FreeZone cable thing here. I would imagine you have something similar. Though the FX fuckers won’t let you pause/fast forward. Bastards.

  131. JD says:

Cameron?! Wasn’t he on Spin City too? I liked it when they tried to drive it in reverse to run off the miles they had put on it.

  132. bh says:

As a little kid, while visiting Chicago, I turned around a corner and suddenly came across the filming of the scene where he gets up and sings on the float.

A man with a bullhorn told us when to act very excited. I couldn’t follow directions because I was excited the entire time.

  133. JD says:

    I thought I recognized you !

  134. bh says:

First time in Chicago and Hollywood came to visit. That was very nice of them I thought.

  135. JD says:

They never a star when they saw one, huh?

  136. JD says:

They knew a star when they saw one, huh? Sometimes my fingers and brain do not communicate with each other.

  137. bh says:

When the movie came out, it really bothered me that I couldn’t see myself in the crowd. That’s when I decided to grow very tall.

  138. JD says:

I went for very ugly, and have been quite successful in my quest.

  139. bh says:

Ugly and tall with a spikey mohawk would probably work best.

  140. JD says:

    You just described me.

  141. Obstreperous Infidel says:

I had lunch with JD, once. He wasn’t so revolting that I couldn’t hold my lunch down. I mean I wretched a few times, but that could have been the ipecac that I mistakenly drank thinking it was liquid crank.

  142. JD says:

Speaking of cranks, don’t ever let Sen Webb turn you upside down.

  143. JD says:

Oops … Trigger warning !!! Trigger warning !!!

  144. Obstreperous Infidel says:

I’ve heard that, JD. Especially, if you happen to be a midget.

  145. JD says:

Are you trying to get my insomnia to kick in?!

  146. sdferr says:

    Insomnia cure JD. Aristotle.

  147. JD says:

Midgets, upside-down crank suckers, clowns, and wall-to-wall Masters is enough to keep me from sleeping until Sunday night.

And just so we are clear, that is a bad thing.

  148. Obstreperous Infidel says:

Sorry, JD. I have a bunch of 10 and 11 year old girls over at the house for my “little” girls birthday sleepover. I have my own insomnia to worry about.

  149. JD says:

Call your doctor. He can prescribe something that will knock you out.

  150. Obstreperous Infidel says:

To be honest, they are being actually quite good, but that levy could break at any time. I have had some liquid medication (not crank), but maybe not too much needed (crossing fingers).

  151. Thomas Jackson says:

Well if the Dhimmies boast a party that features Obamao, Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Waters, Wright, and all the other politboro of love and brotherhood I guess its clear who the racists are.

  152. Mike LaRoche says:

All those kids minority or otherwise are registered and vote (many more than once) as democrats. Same as the dead people, housepets, fictional characters and etc.

So the Democrats have the dead parakeet vote locked up? We’re fucked.

  153. B Moe says:

They promised them free passage back to the fjords.

  154. Winston Smith says:

    Insomnia cure JD. Aristotle.

    Immanuel Kant.

How the hell he ever got translated is beyond me.

  155. Slartibartfast says:

If in 2008, non-hispanic white children under 5 become the minority of all future grown ups, that would — by extension — mean that the future majority would be those other than non-hispanic white children.

So, in my lifetime I might be eligible to start an 8A company?

    Good to know.

Not sure what’s there for me to be concerned about, though. Given, you know, that I’m not all about whoring my principles to the highest bidder.
