This Was Not the [Insert Name] He Knew [Dan Collins]

Gawker’s take on Obama’s statement regarding Blagojevich’s arrest:

Hey, Obama press availability time: president-elect Barry Obama is “saddened” by the actions of evil criminal governor Rod Blagojevich, but it’s an “ongoing investigation,” so he won’t comment on it. Where have we heard that line before? Oh, right—from the Bush administration, for eight years. Now Barry will just talk about how he met Al Gore, who speaks for the trees. He is actually talking about climate change, and no one is listening. We want to hear about Tony Rezko and Rahm Emanuel and Valerie Jarrett and how they’re tied up in this mess! No questions! Well, one question: “I had no contact with the governor or his office, so I was not aware of what was happening.” Poor Al Gore.

Did’j’all see where BoA caved (sorta) and is going to put up money for Obama’s re-election plans? Or dole out a little to the failed Republic Windows and Doors, whichever comes first.

I can see an O! action alert coming over this…

I wonder if their union has an overtime clause..?

  3. kelly says:

I’m saddened that The One is sad. But coincidentally, I also had no contact with the governor or his wife who, evidently, is depriving herself of a decent job in construction or possibly the Navy.

  4. ThomasD says:

So, who in the Obama team did have contact with Blago, or Blago’s team? Were they aware of the shakedown requests? Who refused the deals? Were any of them lawyers? Did they report the apparent solicitation to commit a felony to Obama or the FBI? Or was this all treated like business as usual.

Obama keeps telling people we can take him at his word. So let’s have that transparency we were promised.

  5. Sdferr says:

Obama had contact, for one, according to Axelrod.

What must he do for the right so you guys don’t forsake Him?

  24. Log Cabin says:

    I’ll bite, Parsnip.

He needs to avoid “even the appearance of impropriety”. He needs to appoint a bi-partisan ‘blue-ribbon’ task force and a grand jury with full subpoena powers to investigate this matter immediately.

He needs to pledge to refrain from any and all legislative action during his adminsitration until this matter is fully explained to the American people and all associated have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

He needs to refrain from any judicial appointments until the stain of his corrupt associations are fully brought to light.

Only in this way can we have complete confidence in him. He must do all this to restore America’s reputation at home and abroad. As a someone that believes in clean government, I’m sure you will agree to these reasonable requests.

“Corruption is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Democrat Party, always has been, always will be.”

Looks like he’s saying the Republicans are owned by the Democrats to me.

That the Republicans were pwned by the Democrats goes without saying.

“That the Republicans were pwned by the Democrats goes without saying.”

    Chidiot.

    52 / 48 is hardly “pwned” anything.

Especially after spending a gazillion dollars. And having the MSM on your side supressing any negative information. And running against John McCain.

You’re a fucking moron, alfie, always were, always will be, world without end.

“The most cynical behavior in all this, the most appalling is the fact that Governor Blagojevich tried to sell the appointment to the Senate seat vacated by President-Elect Obama. The conduct would make Lincoln roll over in his grave. The governor’s own words describing this Senate seat: Quote, “It’s a bleeping valuable thing. You just don’t give it away for nothing,” close quote. Another quote: “I’ve got this thing, and it’s bleeping golden. I’m just not giving it up for bleeping nothing. I’m not going to do it. I can always use it. I can parachute me there,” quote. Those are his words, not our characterization, other than with regard to the bleep.”

    Do keep parroting it.

And how do you account for all the corrupt Republicans, N.O.?

And if he approached the Obama team, as it certainly appears he did, who did he talk to and did they report the crime? All Nixon did was cover shit up, remember.

  140. Lef says:

Yeah, that Obama with his 79% approval rating better be worried about impeachment! And when the public finds out he’s so corrupt that he refused to give Blago anything for appointing Jarret they’ll be double-pissed!

    Smoking Gun

During a wiretapped November 10 call, a frustrated and financially strapped Blagojevich referred to Obama as a “motherfucker” and said that he would not appoint an ally of the President-elect to the Senate vacancy if “I don’t get anything.” Referring to Obama, Blagojevich exclaimed, “Fuck him. For nothing? Fuck him.” In a November 11 conversation, Blagojevich remarked that he knew Obama wanted Valerie Jarrett, a longtime confidante, to succeed him, “but they’re not willing to give me anything except appreciation. Fuck them.” Blagojevich, 51, and his chief of staff, John Harris, were arrested this morning on political corruption charges. While the affidavit does not specifically name the six prospective Senate candidates discussed by Blagojevic, Harris, and the governor’s aides, it appears that several are easily identified. “Senate Candidate 1” is Jarrett. “Senate Candidate 2” is Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan. Emil Jones, an Illinois state legislator, is “Senate Candidate 5.” And “Senate Candidate 6” appears to be J.P. Pritzker, a wealthy Chicago businessman. Additionally, Rahm Emanuel, the incoming White House chief of staff, is referred to in the affidavit as “President-elect Advisor.” (21 pages)

    Blago is 51? Nice facelift.

“President-elect Advisor” is almost certainly Emanuel.

Blago mentioned the “fifth CD thing” in conjuntion with “President-elect Advisor”, and that’s Emanuel’s congressional district.

The trollbois and girlz might want to ask themselves this:

We have Blago running a bidding war involving “President-elect Advisor”, “President-elect”, “Senate Candidates” 1-4, etc. How was he doing this? Through a Ouija board? He was clearly talking to all of these people.

How many of them reported the bribery attempt?

Let me guess: zero, or maybe one.

From a prosecutor’s point of view, he is the bigger prize as far as canaries go.

Blago will be left to twist in the wind.

Fitz will be getting the chum on Jones, Daley and many others from the sharks who were in the running to be senator and their cutouts, too but now are afraid to be caught in the Fed’s nets as they cooperate with Fitz to TRY to get their get out of jail free cards.

It’s not up to you, snippy. Sorry.

Oh, look, 80% of Americans approve of the transition job Obama’s doing:/I>

Another lame attempt to change the subject, snippy.

Let’s see what Blowbama’s approval ratings look like after it becomes clear he was marketing his former Senate seat like a side of beef.

    From Jake Tapper:

According to Rep. Rahm Emanuel, D-Ill., Mr. Obama’s incoming White House chief of staff, Emanuel, then-state senator Obama, a third Blagojevich aide, and Blagojevich’s campaign co-chair, David Wilhelm, were the top strategists of Blagojevich’s 2002 gubernatorial victory.

Emanuel told the New Yorker earlier this year that he and Obama “participated in a small group that met weekly when Rod was running for governor. We basically laid out the general election, Barack and I and these two.”

On the Chicago TV show “Public Affairs with Jeff Berkowitz” on June 27, 2002, state Sen. Obama said, “Right now, my main focus is to make sure that we elect Rod Blagojevich as Governor, we…”

“You working hard for Rod?” interrupted Berkowitz.

    “You betcha,” said Obama.

    “Hot Rod?” asked the host.

    “That’s exactly right,” Obama said.

In 2004, then-Gov. Blagojevich enthusiastically endorsed Obama for the Senate seat after he won the nomination, and Obama endorsed Blagojevich for his 2006 re-election race in early 2005.

In the Summer of 2006, then-U.S. Sen. Obama backed Blagojevich even though there were serious questions at the time about Blago’s hiring practices.

At the time, numerous state agencies had had records subpoenaed, with U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald telling authorities he was looking into “very serious allegations of endemic hiring fraud” with a “number of credible witnesses.”

    Spin away, RootBoiFat.

  164. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Did Obama’s new infrastructure/jobs program also include new prison construction to house politicians?

  177. Pablo says:

Let’s flash back to Oct 7:

Federal prosecutors moved Monday to delay indefinitely the sentencing of convicted fundraiser Antoin “Tony” Rezko, sending their strongest hint yet that he is ready to spill his political secrets.

The filing asks for a postponement while prosecutors and defense attorneys “engage in discussions that could affect their sentencing postures.”

Speculation has simmered for weeks that the key fundraiser for Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Sen. Barack Obama was whispering what he knows about corruption in Illinois government to federal prosecutors in hopes of getting a lighter sentence.

Rezko raised more than $1 million for Blagojevich’s campaign fund and was one of the governor’s key advisers. He was frequently by the governor’s side in the early days of his administration and could be in a position to shed considerable light on federal investigations into patronage hiring and a host of other issues involving Blagojevich.

And this is well before the Senate seat allegations. Yep, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

If O! fires Fitzy, will the media give him a pass? After the Bush firing freakouts, can they?
