“Ohio official OK’d records search on Joe the Plumber”

From the Columbus Dispatch:

Ohio’s inspector general is investigating why a state agency director approved checking the state child-support computer system for information on “Joe the Plumber.”

Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, confirmed today that she OK’d the check on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher following the Oct. 15 presidential debate.

She said there were no political reasons for the check on the sudden presidential campaign fixture though the Support Enforcement Tracking System.

Amid questions from the media and others about “Joe the Plumber,” Jones-Kelley said she approved a check to determine if he was current on any ordered child-support payments.

Such information was not and cannot be publicly shared, she said. It is unclear if Wurzelbacher is involved in a child-support case. Reports state that he lives alone with a 13-year-old son.

“Our practice is when someone is thrust quickly into the public spotlight, we often take a look” at them, Jones-Kelley said, citing a case where a lottery winner was found to owe past-due child support. “Our practice is to basically look at what is coming our way.”

Oh. So you see, it had nothing to do with any political motivations. It was just one of them privacy invasions of chance and circumstance.

Too bad Joe wasn’t a suspected Islamic radical who’d been placing calls to Pakistan. Because then the press and the leftwing blogosphere would be on Helen Jones-Kelly like white on a Bull Connor barbecue guest list.

Ohio Inspector General Thomas P. Charles confirmed today that he is investigating the incident to determine if “Joe”s” records were legally accessed by Job and Family Services employees.

The use of a state computer system to search for information on Wurzelbacher is the fourth uncovered by The Dispatch.

Democrat Gov. Ted Strickland is satisfied that there are no political overtures to the check on Wurzelbacher, a spokesman said.

Of course not. That orchestrated smear campaign that began with the release of his licensing records, phone number, social security number, home address, tax liens, parking tickets, and income? All just happy political coincidences from the fallout of a typical Ohio release of the records of a private citizen.

All very innocuous, innocent, and above board. Politics? Why, such people would never let politics tarnish their integrity.

I SAID GOOD DAY, SIR!

Oh. But there is this:

Yes, Helen Jones-Kelley (two e’s in Kelley) just happens to be a maximum $2300 contributor to Barack Obama.

What a fucking shock, huh?

But she provides this sort of illegal intrusion into personal records for anyone who “comes into the public light.” It’s a public service, you see.

Well, scoff all you’d like, but if we can’t pry into the private lives of citizens who have the Audacity of Hope-ing to keep some of their own money, the terrorists will have already won.

Did I say, I SAID GOOD DAY, SIR!?

Good.

What’s been done to JtP is soooo very illegal. If only there were some…concern trolls to drop by to tell me how much worse the Patriot Act is with Fuhrer Bush listning in on all those phone calls to mom in Topeka, Kansas.

Where was the part of the story about getting a warrant? Did I miss that part? Or is it more of a “If your name is published in any medium of general circulation, you have no rights?”

Because if that’s the case, do bylines count?

All I know is that if I use my government hookups to look up passport information I would be fired and prosecuted. I guess that only matters in “certain” circumstances. This is complete bullshit.

According to this exactly WHAT would they have to do for it to be politically related or illegal? I mean would they need to drive to his house and beat up his wife with an Obama poster?

If Obama comes down my street, I ain’t saying shit.

Plus, I’m parking my bumper sticker in the garage and removing my yard signs.

The flag stays up, but I’ll be nervous about it…

In a breaking story by the WIARDI Times, Bob Holdbrook, a DMV employee, was found illegally accessing the driving records of Obama. The employee has since been terminated and is awaiting trial. Critics say Holdbrook, who is a maximum contributor to the McCain campaign and a part time volunteer, was politically motivated when he commited the illegal access of Obama’s personal driving record. The McCain camp when reached for comment denies any connection with Mr. Holdbrook and repudiates his actions. Holdbrook has since refused to comment on the incident but sources close to Mr. Holdbrook say that he is a well known “right-winger” and frequently passed out Republican campaign literature in his neighborhood. One neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, states that he had heard Mr. Holdbrook use the word “Sambo” when referring to Obama while at a local IHOP. More developing……

NOW HERE’S A CHAIN LETTER THAT MAKES SENSE Making the rounds… small business owners, pass it on!

    Dear Fellow Business Owners

As a business owner who employs 30 people, I have resigned myself to the fact that Barack Obama will be our next president, and that my taxes and fees will go up in a BIG way.

To compensate for these increases, I figure that the Customer will have to see an increase in my fees to them of about 8-10%. I will also have to lay off six of my employees.

This really bothered me as I believe we are family here and didn’t know how to choose who will have to go. So, this is what I did.

I strolled thru the parking lot and found eight Obama bumper stickers on my employees cars. I have decided these folks will be the first to be laid off. I can’t think of another fair way to approach this problem.

Jeez you’re just writing things what piss me off today Mr. Goldstein. I’m already really motivated against the dirty Baracky socialists but still I better should pace myself I think. It could go on and on and on. Cuba’s been a dirty socialist backwater like Baracky wants us to be for generations now. These things tend not to pass over quickly.

This is the point at which Ohio citizens can clearly understand that their state government has broken faith with them and so the point at which they most need to make their voices heard. They either speak up to say “This behavior is unacceptable. We demand this bureaucrat is prosecuted within an inch of her life.” or they must expect that they are to be the powerless tools of the state to be manipulated and done with in whatsoever manner the state may choose. They still have a voice, they still have a range of public acts to take. They can still keep themselves the final power in the state. Or they can give up and become as slaves, suffering whatever blows may come.

That have been made in a reportable fashion but I doubt anybody will get to analyize her credit card records

  17. alppuccino says:

Of course, this director of JFS would chafe at a suggestion of checking the voting log for those that might be in her case file. “Hey Janice, you were able to get out and vote, why can’t you go out and look for a job? Or why can’t you go out and buy diapers for your 21 babies instead of letting them run around outside bottomless? Or why can’t you make it to your literacy class?”

Oh wait. That would be disenfranchising Obama voters.

  18. Sdferr says:

In a sense, the same may be said about Sen Ted Stevens. The people of Alaska can see clearly that this sad excuse for a man has broken faith with them. Yet he persists in his reach for power, refusing to resign immediately from the US Senate, continuing his campaign for re-election to his Senate seat. The people of Alaska (and Stevens fellow Republican Party members, for that matter, whether they are in the Senate or not) can stand up for themselves and speak with one voice, in effect saying “Stevens, you criminal, go. Get out! Now! Not one moment longer will we tolerate your filthy presence among us.”

It is their choice, not his.

  19. alppuccino says:

Of course I’m not taking into account the fact that you need to build an economy from the bottom up.

“Hey Elroy, do you…. fuckin’…..have any of that $500 you…fuckin’… got from that check that came from….fuckin’…. Warshington? I used all mine trying to…fuckin’… get a little stuffed….fuckin’… monkey for Lirlene. You…fuckin’….can’t pick nothing up with that fuckin’ claw!”

    “I spent mine on gum.”

  20. Obsteperous Infidel says:

Sdferr, I hear you. As an Ohioan, it’s been a tough row to hoe from the bumbling missteps of Taft the Republican to now. Strickland, from all angles seems to be a down to earth non moonbat democrat, but unfortunately he seems to be protecting one of his own. This bitch needs to be fired, no doubt about it, though. I work under the auspices of the ODJFS and can assure you this happens more often than one would like to believe. Joe the plumber was exceptional due to his arrogance of questioning the one. I may just work across the hall from the person who did the “investigation” on JTP, the miserable treasonous rebel. I’m trying to get some more info. I’ll report back if I get anything good.

  21. Topsecretk9 says:

Where’s John Conyers and the ACLU?? Or is John spending all his time righting letters about the LEAK that ACORN under FBI investigation?

Wurzelbacher also said he had spoken with a lawyer about news reports that his state records had been accessed, perhaps illegally. The Ohio inspector general is investigating who or why accounts assigned to Attorney General Nancy Rogers’ office, the Cuyahoga County Child Support Enforcement Agency and the Toledo Police Department were used.

  22. BJTexs says:

Yeah, I wonder if he’s still telling folks to do it now. *sigh*

I think if Baracky came down my street, I’d be sure to get on camera with him, but then cringe and act very afraid to talk with him.

Sort of like how kids who got whupped too much act. Always seems to embarass the bullying parent for some odd reason.

  27. Mikey NTH says:

Really? The agency director approved this and it is just ‘business as usual’? If it was ‘business as usual’ there would be a policy on it and procedures in place that wouldn’t require her authorization. Government agencies do not operate that ad-hoc, they operate according to a set system – in fact that is one of the biggest complaints about bureaucracies, that they can’t deal with things that are not part of the written procedures.

    Try again, ma’am.

,b>Update, sort of, in the Ohio goings on. They charge a Toledo PD records clerk with “Gross Misconduct for allegedly making an improper inquiry into a state database in search of information pertaining to Samuel Wurzelbacher on Oct. 16.”

  32. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

Wow, check out the DJIA, up nearly 11% at the close.

I think Wall Street is figuring on a McCain win.

A Google search for Helen Jones-Kelley produces some fun results now, btw.

  33. J. Peden says:

The JFS fools jumped the gun! Following our trusted models and procedures and given JTP’s bizarre, racist behavior, JFS should have ginned up some anonymous calls reporting child abuse, or at least talked to the ‘ex”, then SWAT-teamed JTP’s house. Why, just the fact of a man being alone with a kid would usually have been prima facie enough!

Comrades, such incompetence should not go unpunished. And, I trust, in the very near future – wink, wink, wink – it will not.
