Ironically, CNN notes that critics of the McCain campaign’s late attempts to tie Obama to Ayers are suggesting that McCain is trying to shift the focus away from economic issues — which would come as a surprise to the McCain campaign, though not to the LA Times.
From Patterico, we learn that the LA Times cut off its reporting of McCain’s speech yesterday (which I linked here) just at the point when he began to talk about the economic issues he was supposedly ignoring.
Worse, the paper then quoted Obama as saying McCain was scared to talk about the economy.
— Which raises the question about who, precisely, is afraid to have McCain talk about the economy?
At any rate, that the mainstream press is in the bag for Obama is hardly anymore surprising today than it was yesterday, or for the last several weeks and months. What is surprising, though, is that it is becoming increasingly clear that the press will hold back no editorial gambit to ensure that voters know only what they want voters to know — in essence, running out the clock on the Presidential campaign.
Obama doesn’t seem to recognize that this will make him beholden to the press — nor, do I believe, does he care. He’ll worry about that once he’s in power.
All of which I bring up in order to contextualize this CNN piece. Note how Anderson Cooper (and others interviewed) strain to minimize the impact of the facts revealed in the story — that Obama had in fact lied about his relationship with Ayers, how Obama and Ayers gave money to Trinity Church and Bernadette Dohrn, that the CAC gave money to Ayers’ educational projects, including a “Peace School” and a school devoted to African American studies, etc. Note, too, that the McCain campaign wasn’t even contacted to respond or comment.
Too, we get the obligatory attempt by CNN to have Chicago’s Mayor Daley attempt to rehabilitate Ayers — who was Chicago’s man of the year thanks to his work bringing in that $150 million through CAC. Nevermind how the money was actually spent. Mayors care not about such things. They tend to care only about that infusion of funds — something that the CNN story lets slide completely.
Still, the CNN report is remarkable for one thing — having “conservative” Stanley Kurtz appear. And though he is the only investigator whose political ideology is used as a descriptor, Kurtz’s demeanor comes off as perfectly scholarly and matter of fact.
Perhaps it’s time that the mainstream press — sensing that this story is growing beyond the control of Obama and his information thugs — will find it in their best interests to ask some more difficult questions of the Senator going forward.
And if they can’t figure out what exactly to press Senator Obama on, Ed Whelan has a list of questions that represents a good start.
Here’s the CNN report, in its entirety:
Is it me, or does Anderson Cooper look as though he just found out Shoeless Joe Jackson helped throw the World Series.
Say it ain’t so, Barry…

O!
I know…I know…I’m a RAAAAAAAACIST to even discuss it…
I denounce myself.
I don’t know how this would make Obama “beholden” to the press anymore than, say, the left nut is beholden to the right. They’re coequal parts of the same gonad.
Please pardon my repost here from the “Above his paygrade” thread, but it fits, so, here goes:
It appears, judging solely from the CNN report aired on Anderson Cooper’s show last night, that Alice Palmer has decided now is a good time to take a tiny bit of flesh back from Sen. Obama for the hurt he done her way back when she changed her mind about keeping her seat in the Illinois Senate and Obama steamrolled her for her trouble.
Obama’s camp wanted it known that the Obama campaign launch held at the Ayers house back in ‘95 was Alice Palmer’s doing, she organized it without input from Obama, who now claims he didn’t “really†know who Ayers was back then.
Palmer, however, now says “Who? Me? I had nothing to do with putting that old thing together. I was just invited to attend, went for a while, stayed briefly and then went home.â€Â
Ooh, payback, she’s a bitch.
I just did a story about Kerry, Schumer and McCaskill stopping the Iraqi oil agreement with various US and Western oil companies, and of course, China got the deal. Here’s the Anderson Cooper rub–he reported on the loss of the contract to China. He completely omitted that Obama’s supporters nixed the deal, adding to the economic misery of the US people.
And by the way, what kind of expertise does Obama have on the economy other than a cadre of Clinton advisors?

Here was how NPR covered Baracky’s ass yesterday. It’s different from how the Los Angeles Times and CNN covered Baracky’s ass.
Obama just wants to eat his waffle and come on guys! I already answered eight questions.

2 of my favorites … well done.
Governor Palin was absolutely right yesterday in pointing out how Baracky is interested in exploiting the economy, not fixing it. Baracky exploits dead soldiers and economic hardship and also he exploits his media.
I bet Ayers is a big fan of arugala. That makes him a nice person.
Ecce Homo!!
Aside from Baracky lying all the time this also underscores how eager Baracky is to get at children so he can make them think like him and M’chelle. That’s not a healthy preoccupation for a president I don’t think.
Good people! You are too hung up on Obama the man. Obama is an idea. It’s like a cologne in a really cool-shaped bottle that looks kinda like a scrotum with a big chunky crystal cork in it.
The flesh is weak, but the Obama spirit will transcend little soirees with domestic terrorists.
Why hasn’t all this uncomfortable stuff on Ayers, Rezco, et al come out before now? MSM’s in the tank for The One? The deuce you say…
I guess this means we can add CNN to the RAAAAAACCCCCCISSSSST!!!11!1!one!! pile.

Obama should simply ignore the carrot “Ayers issue” just as much as Palin is ignoring the “Troopergate issue.” He is well within his right to ignore, brush under the rug, or whatever you want to call it… as much as Palin is. I am sick and tired of seeing the Republicans get a free pass on these issues… but the Democrats always get sucked into explaining them (i.e. SWIFTBOATED). Again… if Palin can get away with not explaining her mysterious ability to talk in tongues, then I think Obama’s connection to his former pastor is off limits as well. This is a lop-sided argument, and I am tired of this nation being misled and continuously choosing the wrong person as our president as a result. VOTE OBAMA.
I find your ideas intriguing, Daniel, and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
Daniel, I, too, would like to subscribe to your newsletter, as I find your ideas intriguing.
Yes Daniel, all accusations are hereby granted equality, regardless of merit. Except the ones with no merit.
Daniel, send my newsletter subscription to Maggie and Jim. I have enough birdcage liner just taking my hometown daily.
you can use it for composting, too, McGehee.

What color is the sky in your world, Daniel?
Fascinating, Daniel. Do tell us more. Please, your ideas are refreshing and original, like a new deodorant fragrance we hadn’t ever tried.
Wait, Daniel is saying that Ayers tased Obama’s nephew, so he doesnt want to talk about it? I don’t understand.
“if Palin can get away with not explaining her mysterious ability to talk in tongues, then I think Obama’s connection to his former pastor is off limits as well.”
Have you alerted everyone that Daniel has spoken? I bet if you notified more people that YOU THINK a devoted religious women is exactly the same as the 20 year pastor of Obama’s church cursing America on a regular basis, they would stop talking about it. Well done.
“and I am tired of this nation being misled and continuously choosing the wrong person as our president as a result. VOTE OBAMA.” Followed by irony. You exceed yourself. Impressive.
Keep on going Gov Palin–finally someone is calling Obama out on his ties with Ayres and Wright. Could it all really be a coincidence? I think not… I hope she keeps it up. This woman is tells it like it is–what a breath of fresh air!!
we need to stop wrong doing. Doing the right thing has gone out of style we need to bring it back we all know what is right and wrong
I did a big double take on Obama recently, despite press bias. It hit me that it is a good idea to change the subject if we are voting to end democracy in America, by choosing Obama, without a care for his true agenda!
Freedom is taken for granted. This could drastically change. Is it possible that Obama is a Trojan horse for Al Qaeda itself?
Is Al Qaeda actually getting America to vote for an president who fully supports Al Qaeda? I had that strange surreal feeling when this idea hit me just recently. The only other time I felt this way was when I watched the twin towers falling. It had that disorienting Hollywood sensation of the not real.
The big lie is the lie that would never be questioned. It sounds reassuring. It is the opposite of the truth. I believe that many of Obama’s claims fit into this category.
Obama will hunt down and kill Osama Bin Laden. I’ve never heard this expressed as directly by any politician and it suddenly hit me that he could well be planning exactly the opposite. This is the biggest threat. Saying Goodbye to the free world.
Think about Obama’s –Oh so slick campaign –better organized than a MILITARY COUP! Change. The American voter, used to freedom thinks –It can’t matter too much what I choose. Why not give it a try? Sure, I don’t know this guy very well at all, but that doesn’t matter. He seems nice. He says what I want to hear. Sure. Change.
An analogy is a film I saw in France about a young woman struggling to survive in Russia. She meets a nice friend who tells her that she can get good work in Switzerland. So she plans to go with him. Once they are in Switzerland, she is locked in a room, used as a sex slave and is unable to escape even to commit suicide. Change. I bet she wished she had waited, asked a few more questions, run it by some reliable people.
Obama will help the middle class –when he will do the opposite –cripple the middle class. Who will pay for all his extreme left plans, which he does not want to reveal fully? The wealthy can flee, if they don’t like being taxed more. The middle class cannot.
North of the U.S. in little Canada, Trudeau rode in upon similar demagoguery and I wonder if similar forces helped him to be so irresistable. It sounds really good when you say that there is medical care for all. But what people don’t talk about is how a single well-payed Canadian professionals can’t afford a home. They pays too much tax. They are paying to support minorities who get in as refugee frauds. Once they are in Canada, they do not work and instead sponge huge medical dollars.
The con man is the person who smiles, acts nice and gets aggressive if you don’t trust him right away. Obama ridicules those who ask who he is. Yet, if he has a dangerous agenda for the U.S., we’d better find out, before we, like the sex slave, go for change. Things can be bad, but they can also be much much worse.
Finally, is it possible that Al Qaeda is using hidden sympathizers in the U.S. to do major buying and sellingl in the stock market? Could they be trying to destabilize the U.S. and get its electorate to turn against republicans?
P.S. I am racing to try to post this blog as much as possible. It is very time-consuming trying to find a place which will allow this.
Those are some interesting ideas, Mark. Do you have a newsletter we could subscribe to?
