A message from THE ONE

Dear Friends and supporters:

We here in Obamalot encourage that you kindly refrain from attacks on Bristol Palin and Sarah Palin, specifically when it comes to issues relating to their families. We've done some asking around, you see, and such a strategy is unlikely to hurt Senator McCain with his base -- and may actually help him with both undecideds and people with, like, souls.

So we ask that you please use the following approved anti-Palin/McCain talking points -- to be released officially at a later date.

Thank you for your prompt consideration to this pressing matter,

The One

ps. YOU'RE KILLING ME! PLEASE, PLEASE JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!

    I would say this is presidential behavior, as opposed to trailertrash/britney spears promotion of celebrity pregnacy in underage girls.

  2. Jeff G. says:

    And your opinion has proven to be so valuable!

  3. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    underage girls

    The age of consent in Alaska is 16.

    You will now, of course, apologize for the slander and refrain from repeating it in the future.

    BWAHAHAHAHAHA! Who am I kidding?

  4. McGehee says:

    Promotion, nishtoon?

    I don’t think that word means what you think it means.

    Then again, I’m fluent in, like, English and shit.

  5. Jeff G. says:

    Before Palin was “lying to cover it up.” Now she’s “celebrating it” and “using it.” All proximate causes and consideration bracketed, of course.

    Win win!

  6. Jeff G. says:

    Okay, family time! Have a good one, folks!

  7. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    By the way, I really would be careful about using that one, nishi.

    You can say just about anything you want about a politician or public figure, but the father of Bristol’s child is neither of those.

    Falsely accusing him of having sex with an underage girl is both reprehensible and actionable.

    Watch your step, hunny.

  8. B Moe says:

    Preach it, nishfong, preach it! You are sounding more like Hagee everyday!

  9. dicentra says:

    Hey, I say that dKos and fellow travelers need to ratchet that amp up to ELEVEN!!!111!!1!

    Shout it from the rooftops, lefties! Invent the nastiest rumors you can think of and seed them throughout the Internet! Y’all over at Media Matters, don’t forget to type them all into Olberman’s teleprompter.

    Be loud! Be proud!

  10. Andrew the Noisy says:

    Again, Nishi, he’s saying that attacking Bristol is bad politics and will get you tarred as an asshole.

    Which means you…

  11. B Moe says:

    learn to do it right.

  12. Rob Crawford says:

    Ya know, I’d rather have a president who doesn’t have to tell his constituency that attacking an opponent’s children is wrong than one who has to point that out.

  13. happyfeet says:

    Is Baracky on-message? I can’t tell anymore.

  14. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    You too, Jeff. I’m about to fire up the grill and crack a cold one myself.

  15. dre says:

    Change you can believe in.

  16. ushie says:

    Poor nishi, getting stupider by the day. I could suggest so many insulting bio-medical reasons for her stupidity embiggening, but then I’d be like a koskid, andi, or…her.

  17. cjd says:

    “Okay, family time!”

    Sure, Jeff, we know what that really means. To paraphrase the latest PW troll/punching bag/sockpuppet mike, “You are all Hipocrates!”

  18. Kevin B says:

    I see Insty points to a Wired article discussing a claim that Sarah is a hacker.

    So that’s another constituency in the bag.

  19. Drider says:

    Obama’s comments on his supporters rabid and disgusting witch hunt, Im sorry to say, ring hollow.
    As I will give him the benefit of the doubt on directly being involved in this vile smear tactic to some degree he undeniably is for the simple fact that in his quest to find like minded people who support his views, he once again failed to vet those he asociates with.
    The problem that many people have with Obama is that he asociates himself with shady and corrupt individuals/orginizations as he did once again with these kooky website people.
    The fact is that this is just a tiny slice of reality that pretty much anyone can see happen with the exception of Obama….if you activley align yourself with vile people, you have no control of situations such as this and the whole deal spirals out of control.

    Yhe fact is Obama has an ongoing problem in showing exremley bad judgment in those he aligns himself with for personal gain, and the thought of him being President is unthinkable being he cant make simple, basic calls of good judgment, it’s an undeniable pattern and eliminates him from having any chance of getting my vote.

    The last thought is that a pretty large amount of the American population can relate to Gov. Palin in a variety of ways, they sure as heck dont relate to the minions that Obama seems to pick up while sewer trolling for support.

  20. Rob Crawford says:

    they sure as heck dont relate to the minions that Obama seems to pick up while sewer trolling for support.

    “We’re filth! We’re filth! We come from filth, we’re going to filth! We’re filth! We’re filth!”

    Seems… apropos.

  21. Daryl Herbert says:

    Within about an hour of the announcement, I commented on Ace of Spades that being a pro-life woman seeking higher office meant that Sarah Palin’s sex life was “fair game” for rumors, true or false. (I specifically used the words “fair game”)

    Of course, she doesn’t have much of a sex life outside of her marriage, because she married her H.S. sweetheart. Which figures. Our first woman (vice) president has to be some kind of sexual saint with minimal original sin.

    But I’m just a naive little babe in the woods. It didn’t occur to me within an hour of the pick that DKos would spread rumors about her children. Markos is such a swine.

  22. N. O'Brain says:

    Ummm….why?

  23. Hadlowe says:

    I’ll give Barack the benefit of the doubt here, and say that he means the point amicably. I’m not of the opinion that he is incapable of nobility.

    Of course it doesn’t mean that the cesspool he calls his base will take his cue.
    Would you like some more rope, nishi? I’ve got just enough over here.

  24. TomB says:

    I don’t understand what the Messiah is worried about. Here is a shining example of the nuanced, uniting rhetoric of one of his supporters from a previous thread:

    Comment by Ian on 9/1 @ 3:18 pm #

    SBP and Sifty,

    I live in a city of 180,000 and can drive 15 miles in any direction and be in monster truck, WWF, confederate-flag-in-the-back-window-to-keep-dust-off-the-gun rack heaven. I was simply passing on a statement from someone in the Governor’s own back yard. We ignorant elitists are everywhere, don’t you know. Being a hillbilly is not necessarily location specific – its more a state of mind(less). Palin 2009 – right after J Mac has a massive heart attack when the democratic congress doesn’t rubberstamp his zany ideas, like nuking all those Sunnis (cue Lieberman) in Iran.

    Enough for me. People like you and I aren’t going to be swayed by anyone elses opinion and the fleeting satisfaction of this intellectual pissing contest has thus lost its allure. Maybe your arguments would be better aimed at those who voted for Dubya in 2004 – after voting for him in 2000. Came up with a new saying: Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, shoot me, please – I’m too dumb to live.

    Can you feel the love of his fellow man here?

  25. psycho... says:

    If he wasn’t always dissembling, you’d almost think B.O. gets it, maybe this once, about this one thing…or part of it.

    My mother was very like his (in a few ways), and she had me when she was 17, too, which is a thing about him (and her) I’ve never found interesting. Not because we share it, but because it wasn’t even slightly odd at the time (his or mine).

    There’s been a psychological Singularity about this, I know — pushed by abotion-lovers (to blacks) and pedo-scaremongers (to whites), mostly — but seriously: this “too young” shit has only been around in its current hard-line form for, like, five years. (You can remember if you try.)

    And this meme-rapture definitely left behind a couple demographics — chief among them, Palin’s. I don’t even know where the idea that “religious right” types are all OMG NOEZ at pregnant teenagers comes from. Not the Bible, obviously. And out here in real life, they seem to like them. A lot.

    I don’t chum around with teh Christianists or anything (they don’t drink enough to hang), and the ones I do know are mostly Farrakhan types, but

    Hey! I just saw someone I kinda second-hand know throwing shit (that may have been literal shit) at RNC-goers on TV. How sweet. Anyway–

    but I’ve met some, and this whole pregnant-daughter thing, in whichever variant, is, at worst, nothing to them. And it’s more likely to make them bond with the Palin-image than to reject her.

    Maybe that‘s what O knows. It is really hard to believe he’s actually empathizing with anybody.

  28. Timmer says:

    Quite honestly, if he actually told those ‘tards to shut the fuck up, I’d have some respect for him.

  29. Rob Crawford says:

    I don’t even know where the idea that “religious right” types are all OMG NOEZ at pregnant teenagers comes from.

    It comes from two features of the left — their dedication to believing the worst of their opponents, and their inability to distinguish between fiction and reality. An example of the first is their constant attribution of various schemes to Republicans in general and Bush in particular — though that may be projection. As for the second, well, they believe Michael Moore makes documentaries.

  30. Hadlowe says:

    Asking for the crazy masses to keep their hands off is a good and decent thing to do. I think he’s trying to alienate his base by showing goodness and decency.

    Obama’s comments on his supporters rabid and disgusting witch hunt, Im sorry to say, ring hollow.

    Maybe, but I’ll give him the benefit of doubt on this one: he has daughters of his own and I imagine this has all been very “cringe-worthy” to him. That he has thus far given tacit approval to the Nutroots’ adolescent smear tactics makes it more of a “hoist on his own petard” scenario… hence, the “STFU, you morons!” official Media statement.

  35. Sdferr says:

    “…incestbaby…” “…TRUE…” “…TRUTH…”

  44. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    nishi, as I observed above, you owe the father of Bristol’s child an apology for suggesting that he’s guilty of sexual abuse of a minor (a felony under Alaska Statutes).

    Is Patrick Kennedy still in office?

  49. Patrick Kennedy says:

    Is Patrick Kennedy still in office?

    ‘Course not, dude. Congress isn’t even is session now, why would I be in the office?

  50. Great Banana says:

    Nishi

    You idiot. You write:

    guess we are also supposed to ignore Mr. Palin’s drunk driving conviction.

    dipshit – you can pay attention to the husband of the vice presidential candidate getting a D.U.I.

    But, if you are able to think beyone 2 seconds ago, remember, your leftard Presidential candidate admits to selling cocaine. Which is worse? Not only is your asshole candidate an affirmative action admission at Harvard law (has he released his college grades, LSAT score, or law school grades yet); he is an affirmative action pick onto the law review (again, he did not grade on or write on – so he could only get on to law review through affirmative action); he has not accomplished anything in life aside from getting elected (name one important piece of legislation he has authored); he’s written no articles or anything else to demonstrate academic ability; he’s done nothing courageous in his life; he’s never sacraficed anything for any cause; he’s never accomplished anything outside of elected office. the man is as empty a suit as exists, with no real proof of intellectual bona fides nor even a consistent set of policy ideas (he swithces his stances 180 degrees within weeks of taking a stance based on polls). What exactly is it about your coke-selling failure of a candidate that you find so great?

    If you had any rationality or decency at all, I would be shocked. You write like a 12 year-old girl and obviously think like one as well. My guess is that you are so much a lefty because you live on the governmetn teat – some kind of DSS or other entitled program that you don’t deserve, and simply want the rest of us to keep paying your way. I can’t imagine that anyone is willing to employ someone as vile and stupid as you are.

  51. Great Banana says:

    Facts about Obama:

    He was an affirmative action admission at Harvard law (has he released his college grades, LSAT score, or law school grades yet);

    He was an affirmative action pick onto the law review (again, he did not grade on or write on – so he could only get on to law review through affirmative action);

    He has not accomplished anything as an elected offical – name one important piece of legislation he has authored);

    He’s written no articles or anything else to demonstrate academic ability;

    he’s done nothing courageous in his life, not even taking a courageous stance on any legislation (Mr. “present” on controversial bills);

    he’s never sacraficed anything for any cause;

    he’s never accomplished anything outside of elected office.

    the man is as empty a suit as exists, with no real proof of intellectual bona fides nor even a consistent set of policy ideas (he swithces his stances 180 degrees within weeks of taking a stance based on polls).

    He went to a church for 20 years where hatred of white people was routinely preached and hatred of america was routinely preached.

    he worked closesly with and was friends with an admitted and unrepetent domestic terrorist;

    he voted to legalize killing babies that were already born;

    He has a shady financial relationship with convicted felon Rezko.

    What exactly is it about this admitted cocaine dealer that the left finds so great?

  52. Rob Crawford says:

    Unfortunately for Obama’s attempts to regain control of the narrative dKos is pretty much the blogosphere standard-bearer for his movement.

    That funny feeling is the dizzyness you get when you try to engage in adult conversation. You should read to your reading comprehension level, which appears to be about that of a 12 year old girl. Trying to engage with people at this site who are so much more intelligent than you is only going to cause you dizziness and feelings of low self worth.

  57. Jeffersonian says:

  60. Mr. Pink says:

    I am just waiting for someone at the Gov. offices in Alaska to accuse Palin of sexual harrasment and suggest she constantly talked about the movie “Deep Throat”. Then we can really get this show on the road.

  61. TmjUtah says:

    There’s a valuable bit of redemption in all of this.

    Just think – no matter how bad your life may seem when you lay down to sleep, at least you don’t wake up at three a.m. and realize your professional future is in the hands of people who think that Keith Olberman is a journalist.

  64. urthshu says:

    Guess what I’m finding hilarious about the Bristol pregnancy is that, of the lefties I know, all of them work with …unwed mothers. Heck, some of them *are*.

  65. quellcrist falconer says:

    i am Teh Kourier
    and here is the message.
    Sarah Palin is not qualled to be CinC, and McCain has not sufficiently vetted her.
    She will be defined by her positions on abortion and creationism–on social issues.
    In her own words.
    This country is not and never has been governed by cudlips.
    Even McCain is an Elite.

  66. quellcrist falconer says:

    Bush was an Elite.
    Jefferson was an Elite.
    We will never elect Joesixpack to run the country.
    we dont believe he can do it.
    the more Palin tries to normalize herself, the less enthused the theocons will be.
    Extremes are unelectable.
    And, sadly, cudlips are unelectable too.

  67. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    nishi, I wasn’t fooling about apologizing for that libelous statement. Really.

  68. McGehee says:

    That’s nice. Off to bed with you now.

    Her sub-conscience is more honest than she would like, perhaps.

  71. urthshu says:

    2 things –
    She isn’t running for CinC
    But also: You don’t like her b/c you see her as a prole. That threatens you b/c if she makes it and does well, then who the fuck are you? Nobody, thats who, and the reality-based community abhors reality-tests.

  72. Steve Clouthier says:

    Jeff, Thank God you and others are out there fighting against this personal and violent attack on a child with the purpose of destroying her Mom’s candidacy. I have not been so outraged since I obtained the right to vote some twenty years ago. Don’t be weary, this battle will be one by people who have souls and believe in decency. Those that operate in a world of violence and personal destruction will never win.

  73. Spies, Brigands, and Pirates says:

    It’s a good thing that McCain/Palin aren’t (yet) as vindictive as Obama when it comes to filing charges and/or lawsuits. A simple subpoena and and nishbot’s ISP coughs up her identity. At which point, she finds herself explaining to a jury why she was falsely accusing a kid of a felony.

    But hey, it’s the Chicago Way, or so O! tells us.

    Better walk it back while you can, nishi.

    Ahh… The talking telephone pole read it in a… get this… science fiction book. That’s right — once more its inability to distinguish between reality and fiction.

    It means, basically “human”, and is a term of abuse directed at the bulk of humanity by characters who have gone through magical genetic engineering. It’s a synonym for “untermenschen”.

    Charming little bitch, isn’t she?

    No, he’s Joey Hair Plugs. I know, it’s hard to keep these things straight.

  91. B Moe says:

  94. happyfeet says:

    What an awesome pick. Usually I kind of shy away from endorsing anything that looks like identity politics but I think Sarah P has really drawn out a misogyny in this country I really didn’t know was there.

    I knew Baracky’s people hated Hillary but attacking 16 year old girls means this hate runs really a lot deeper than I think most people knew. For Sarah P to rise above this with grace and strength and class, it’s a very real opportunity for women. I don’t think Sarah P has to push back so much as to just expose the hatred of women that permeates Baracky’s movement. The left has a lot of self-examination to do. After this. I think that would be a lot to expect right now. But later.

    Apparently McCain knew about it and here’s Obama’s statement:

    ” Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee, was asked at a brief press conference in Monroe, Mich., about the suggestion by some Republicans that Democrats — particularly liberal bloggers — were trying to advance rumors about the Palin family.

    “Our people were not involved in any way in this and they will not be,” Mr. Obama snapped, his voice raised. “And if I ever thought there was somebody in my campaign that was involved in something like that, they’d be fired, O.K.?”

    Mr. Obama said the pregnancy “has no relevance to Governor Palin’s performance as a governor or her potential performance as a vice president.” He added that, “my mother had me when she was 18. How a family deals with issues and teen-age children — that shouldn’t be the topic of our politics.”

    “So,” he added, “I would strongly urge people to back off these kinds of stories.”

    When viewers objected, he claimed, in typical Limbaugh fashion, that the gag was an accident and that without his permission some technician had put up the picture of Chelsea–which I found as disgusting as his original attempt at humor.

  172. TmjUtah says:

    one MRE –

    Back in 1993, during an episode of his TV show, Limbaugh was running through pictures of the new residents of the White House. He said something to the effect of “and here’s the new White House dog” (PARAPHRASE) and Chelsea Clinton’s picture was put on the screen.

    He later acknowledged the inappropriate nature of his statement. I found an Observer article from 2002 where he is reported to have personally apologized to Mrs. Clinton during a public event they had both been invited to.

    I have nothing to say about the interval between the offense and the direct apology; I can’t imagine that Mrs. Clinton ever being anxious to meet Mr. Limbaugh at any time… especially during the White House years.

    And that’s the kerfluffle about Chelsea and Limbaugh. The period I was referring to was the specific time period when the damage control for the Lewinsky scandal was in full force, and the whole family were photographed on vacation. I REMEMBER Limbaugh opining on the cynicism involved in getting not only the cabinet but also your family involved in rehabilitating a shattered political persona.

    That was the time frame I was referring to. I did not remember the earlier “bad joke” kerfluffle. I guess I won’t say anything about a party to a debate that holds up a dumb joke nearly two decades in the past as evidence of intractable evil.

    Being a self – identified conservative of more than moderate and publicly embraced patriotism, and thus earning my own share of reflexive damnation as a fanatic, hater, homophobe, warmonger, and waster of non – renewable resources, I’ll just let that go.

    – Hes been standing there for weeks watching every atta-boy bump get destroyed by the Left and their Igor illiterates like thor, with a series of rapacious garbage mouth attacks.

    – At some point, hes going to really have to throw Kos under the MagicBus if he expects this sort of crap to actually stop.

    Hows this for a flimsy excuse.

    From Howard Kurtz:

    It is hardly unusual for a teenage girl to become pregnant, and unless she is Jamie Lynn Spears, who sold her baby pictures to OK! magazine, the news value is minimal. But some media commentators say Palin is fair game, not just because she is running for national office but because she is a self-described “hockey mom” who told the nation that her eldest son is headed to Iraq.

    “Once she’s brought her children in as selling points, unfortunately the bad comes in with the good,” says Lisa Bloom, a Court TV anchor. “She’s integrating her mom quality as a key part of her résumé. We didn’t do that in the press; she did that.”

    I’d hate to have to try and limbo under that bar.

  199. Obama Wins says:

    Palin is just a ploy by the GOP to get the old white women with pendulumous jugs who supported Hillary to betray the Democratic Party and vote for McCain.

    I call this block the Pendulumous Vote. These are old white women – 18 million of them = 36 million pendulums. Palin herself is plenty saggy after 5 sprogs.

    Obama will win easily without having to appease the Pendulumous Vote. We don’t need them, they can go back to talking about menopause, and managing the longest, thinnest tits in the world.

  206. Okay I’m over it. I was really pissed off there for a while, but the fact is thor and the KOStards are really frightened on a visceral level. They saw that woman walk up to that podium. They heard her speak to the crowd. The potential damage Palin represents to the Democratic cause is unendurable from their perspective. Vice President for four or eight years, President for another eight? With Bobby Jindal her VP, ready to take over for the next eight? For the Democrats, that simply can never be allowed to be. They are terrified, and you can’t really hold folks to what they say when they are out of their minds with fear. We really will say anything, and even *doing* anything, and we really can’t help ourselves. It’s an artifact of our wiring. We need to let them say what they will say, but keep them from actually hurting anyone.

    O! is not qualified to be president and was never properly vetted by the MSM or the democratic party primary voters. Indeed, O! is less qualified to be President than Palin, he has less accomplishments in life and less experience and his personal history has never been properly explored or investigated. Here is why:

    He was an affirmative action admission at Harvard law (has he released his college grades, LSAT score, or law school grades yet);

    He was an affirmative action pick onto the law review (again, he did not grade on or write on – so he could only get on to law review through affirmative action);

    He has not accomplished anything as an elected offical – name one important piece of legislation he has authored);

    He’s written no articles or anything else to demonstrate academic ability;

    he’s done nothing courageous in his life, not even taking a courageous stance on any legislation (Mr. “present” on controversial bills);

    he’s never sacraficed anything for any cause;

    he’s never accomplished anything outside of elected office.

    the man is as empty a suit as exists, with no real proof of intellectual bona fides nor even a consistent set of policy ideas (he swithces his stances 180 degrees within weeks of taking a stance based on polls).

    He went to a church for 20 years where hatred of white people was routinely preached and hatred of america was routinely preached.

    he worked closesly with and was friends with an admitted and unrepetent domestic terrorist;

    he voted to legalize killing babies that were already born;

    He has a shady financial relationship with convicted felon Rezko.

    What exactly is it about this admitted cocaine dealer that the left finds so great?

  217. SarahW says:

    Pablo, I saw that Beldar piece about vetoes, and so forth.

    It’s hard for me to speak candidly now because I know my opinion is not shared, certainly not widely or openly shared here, and because the argument is put forth in such bad faith by McCain/Palin opponents who have been so vicious and hypocritical, and are the CAUSE of the spotlight on 17 year-old Bristol Palin.

    Let me say it in good faith then. If I think it, I know other reasonable people do. I am not trying to find “angles” with which to get at Palin, I’m operating from what I think are good principles.

    Palin should not have accepted the nomination because it’s the wrong time for her family to place it in a bitterly contested national contest. Whatever Palin had to offer the national stage, it could have waited for another opportunity, even if it would never again have been so grand and opportunity.
    To expose her own teenaged daughter, who is facing a time that would be difficult and trying even under the best of circumstances, the most momentous in a woman’s life, and which probably holds in store for her challenges she has not even begun to anticipate, to the spotlight of scorn and personal attacks upon herself, in order to gain that office, is not the choice I would have made and I think it the wrong choice for anyone, mother or father, to have made.

    To offer a veto power over that decision to her seventeen year old daughter, who is obviously capable of some error in judgement and neglect of a long term view of events ( and this is not a personal disparagment, just an ordinary observation of a typical teenager in her position) , seems imprudent at best.

    I do not think a seventeen year old girl should have been put in the position of vetoing her mother’s acceptance of the VP slot, if indeed that is what happened. I think it is necessarily a highly imprudent and improper to hand veto power to a young person with absolutely no idea what she will be up against, of experience to understand how it will really affect her or her well being, and necessarily that of the health baby she hopes to have in December. And this bright spotlight will continue to shine on herself after that birth, if all goes well, but also her child, and I foresee a number of events where that innocent might be dragged into the fray, dogged by paparazzi, sneering remarks, teasing, and a lifelong whispered label as “mistake” in the national press that would have been avoided by Palin eschewing her opportunity this go round.

  218. Pablo says:

    I see what you’re saying, Sarah, but this appears to me to be a family decision that they will all work their way through together. There doesn’t seem to be any lack of fortitude and I think they’ll probably weather it just fine while availing themselves of a wonderful, historic opportunity. Any attacks say far more about the attackers than they do about the Palins.

    I don’t see where that would be any different next time around. The slimers started in this time based on absolutely nothing. I don’t expect that to change, and they’ll slime whoever their opponent is with anything their fevered imaginations can produce, with no restraint whatsoever. Further, I expect that child to be loved by a strong, supportive family that will instill in it a healthy dose of “Illegitimi non carborundum.”

  219. alppuccino says:

    “Juno” also shares with “Knocked Up” an underlying theme, a message that is not anti-abortion but rather pro-adulthood. It follows its heroine — and by the end she has earned that title — on a twisty path toward responsibility and greater self-understanding.

    This is the course followed by most coming-of-age stories, though not many are so daring in their treatment of teenage pregnancy, which this film flirts with presenting not just as bearable but attractive. Kids, please! Heed the cautionary whale. But in the meantime, have a good time at “Juno.” Bring your parents, too.

    – From the NYT review.

    Maybe Bristol has a sense of humor. It was worth an Oscar nom from the Hollywooders.

  220. SarahW says:

    What would have been different in a future political contest?

    It would have been different, in that Bristol would not be a very young and first-time pregnant girl number of stressful unknowns ahead of her. A few years and the pregnancy over would have been a very significant change. Any alteration in the attackers motives, well, that’s just too much to hope for.

    Moreover, I’ve noticed a weaker target inspires more vicious attacks. A married, emancipated mother, or having reached real adulthood, with a young child thiving, making her way with her head fully out of the clouds, completely independent of her mother, would have shown the strength of character you predict, made manifest.

    Palin’s daughter woudn’t be walking through the hurricane at the same vulnerable time.

    Since I see self-denial as the true test of character, not racing ahead into danger. This is view not shared by all, probably not very many. But it’s how I think.

  221. SarahW says:

    Sorry, I can’t seem to write very clearly this AM. I think I’ll just listen to other people today, mostly.

  222. happyfeet says:

    Bristol’s kid will be better off if she can say hey my grandma, she was vice president of the United States. It’s funny how this works. None of my grandparents were never vice president and for this I have struggled.

  223. Obstreperous Infidel says:

    That’s the thing, Pablo. From all accounts, that family seems to be strong, loving and has the financuial resources to care for that child. That baby, as far as we know, will want for nothing. We have to trust that Sarah Palin knows what the hell she is doing. This is the whole personal responsibility thing that this blog trumpets at all times. The personal responsibility thing that the majority of commenters share.

    I came into work today and first thing I get from an Obama supporting co-worker is, “how about the 15 year old having a baby! Family values!”. After correcting the guy in regards to Bristol’s age (he’s a nice guy, just not too bright), I told him, I didn’t think it was a big deal at all. I work in social services and this is light years different than the cases that we see involving a 17 year od girl getting pregnant. I’m not going to have to support Bristol’s child, but our client’s children? We support them. He may or may not of gotten the point. He says he did. But, I no doubt he’ll turn around to his fellow obamatons and forget everything he just learned.

  224. ThomasD says:

    SarahW,

    You have made a series of value judgments that would lead you to a specific course of action. As a (presumably) grown woman that is your prerogative and it should be respected. Likewise Sarah Palin has made a series of value judgements leading her to make her choices. She, as you, has done this her entire life. Not to say that people should not be free to disagree, only that such disagreement should be expressed openly, honestly, and fairly, as you have done.

    As has been said, there is no better predictor of future performance than past performance. So far, from what I know of Palin’s life, her decisions have worked out pretty well. If in her shoes I too would find the prospect of a national political campaign a bit much of an addition to the family’s current high wire act. Perhaps it is another one of those human traits that forms the political divide, when someone who has a proven track record of succeeding tells me ‘I can do this’ I’m inclined honor their statement.

  225. ThomasD says:

    Feets, are you sure it wasn’t the under abundance of fresh fruit, or arugula, that let you disadvantaged?

  226. TomB says:

    Sarah, your argument, taken to its logical conclusion, is that a person with a (young) family should not run for high office due to the potential for trouble. Because, if you notice, Bristol’s name was already being dragged through the mud before her pregnancy became known.

    Face it, as already proven, the left will smear anybody of opportunity.

    I said it earlier, you wait, Piper is next.

  227. Education Guy says:

    Apart from being crass, the attacks on Bristol Palin and her mother seem politically tone deaf in that Americans, unlike the left leaning favored Europeans, are still fans of having babies.

  228. […] alppuccino: “Juno” also shares with “Knocked Up” an underlying theme, a message that is not […]

  229. Diana says:

    SarahW …

    What I think might be missing from your thinking, is that a savvy woman, like Sarah Palin, would have had a long conversation with her daughter, letting her know what would be in store for her. Dirty politics wasn’t news to this family. I’ll bet Bristol was well versed in what might be coming … and urged her mother on, despite the down side.

  230. Pablo says:

    Because, if you notice, Bristol’s name was already being dragged through the mud before her pregnancy became known.

    You mean like Piper and Willow being named after witches because of the Palin occultness? Yeah, like that.

  231. Pablo says:

    Diana, if Bristol is anything like her mother, I suspect she might be wanting to throw some blows of her own right about now. People like that don’t generally take kindly to attacks on their family.

    Not saying that it will happen, but she could black a few haughty eyes right nicely.
