Jake Tapper of ABC News has the PowerPoint presentation Obama campaign manager David Plouffe rolled out to fundraisers last week.
It is a sort of mirror image to John McCain’s strategery briefing, which was was fairly long on spin to convince people Maverick was going to be competitive with the Obama machine. Plouffe spun the RNC’s decent recent fundraising to motivate Obama’s moneyfolk, but otherwise tended to confirm that some of the hype about the Obama campaign was in fact hype.
For example, Plouffe notes that Obama is doing early television in Alaska, Colorado, Georgia, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Virginia. But he later suggests that — in addition to the core battlegrounds of Florida, Ohio, and Pennsylvania — the campaign is also more serious about targeting Virginia, Missouri, Colorado, Iowa, and New Mexico.ÂÂ
Thus, for all the talk of running DNC Chair Howard Dean’s “50-state strategy,” Obama’s main efforts are directed at the obvious targets, with hopes of forcing McCain to spend money defending the occasional Red State, if the early TV makes an impact somewhere. This was as I hypothesized, but an easy guess, as Team Obama is not dumb when it comes to organization.
Does anyone actually listen to Howard Dean after his “I got a scream” speech? Everytime I see him I just laugh uncontrollably.
