Election 2008: McCainocrats (still) outnumber Obamacans [Karl]

The Politico had Gallup aggregate their daily polls between March 7 and 22 to assess the cross-party appeal of each candidate, with results similar to that of prior polling showing that McCain gets more support from Democrats than Obama gets from Republicans.

The actual news in the Politico project is that the aggregated Gallup data shows McCain winning independents against either Democrat — 48 to 23 percent against Clinton, and 40 to 31 percent against Obama.  Previously, Obama held the edge among independents.

As usual, this is a snapshot, subject to change etc.  But the current results may reflect damage being done by the Democrats to each other in their protracted campaign.

(h/t HotAir headlines.)

Update:  Gallup has now posted more details from the aggregate survey.  Some 39% of independents/Dem leaners currently say they will vote for McCain if Obama is the nominee, as would 38% of conservative Dems and 30% of moderate Dems.

McCain is a trusted brand. As long as he doesn’t lie about stuff he’s gonna be in good shape I think. Any deal where they try linking him to Bush is a lot orthogonal to his brand I think, and not really an effective approach. It’s like saying Nike’s get bad gas mileage.

I’ll be treating those victimized and infected with Obamanervosa in room #3. The first writing assignment will be an open thought essay titled “If My Dad Was Obama’s Dad, Or Just A Random Drunk Negro” for those wishing to get a head start to the classroom portion of group therapy.

  3. nishizonoshinji says:

but Karl….there are going to be just more democrats than republicans.
that is why the electoral college maps show a democratic win.

punk the vote was a loozer for kerry, but i have a feeling this time its gonna be different.
for one thing O is like an order magnitude cooler than kerry.
all these polls u are citing ignore the 18-28 bracket i think.
that bracket is consistantly under represented.
even prevoters, kids younger than 18 are gettin involved in this election….listening to O’s speeches, persuadin their parents to vote O.
right now there are more democrats than republicans in the US.
and more young people are joining the democratic party.
    interesting times.

  4. nishizonoshinji says:

i think perhaps independents will be less valuable in this election.
rasmussen markets and the electoral college map still predict a democratic win in november.

  5. Pablo says:

Did they poll Egyptians? No? I didn’t think so.

You don’t want to know what happens when you ignore such significant portions of the electorate.

  6. JD TWP says:

I would not bet the Presidency on a demographic that A) appeals to the nishidiot, and B) has trouble getting out of bed for a 2:00 Western Civ class.

  7. Karl says:

As nishi is in cheerleader mode, she ignores the part about “As usual, this is a snapshot, subject to change etc.,” which is just as applicable to whatever electoral map she’s looking at right now. And though I intend to do a separate post on the topic, here’s a map that is currently showing a 60% chance of McCain winning. Again, that’s today; tomorrow is different. Also, the fact that there are more registered Dems only magnifies the advantage McCain gets by taking a larger %age of Dems.

  8. Karl says:

Oh, I missed that nishi mentioned Rasmussen. Here’s the current Balance of Power calculation:

On Thursday, the Rasmussen Reports Balance of Power Calculator shows Democrats leading in states with 200 Electoral College Votes while Republicans are favored in states with 189 Votes (see recent daily results). When “leaners” are added to the total, the Democrats lead with 247 Electoral Votes to 240 for the GOP. These results, showing a virtual tie, represent a significant improvement for Republicans over the past month.

  9. Karl says:

Also the Gallup poll linked above includes the youth vote, but as nishi’s generation (and Bob Dole) would say, “whatever.”

  10. Pablo says:

Karl, did you know that if you keep putting bread crumbs on your terrace, you wind up with birdshit all over it? That’s absolutely true. I swear to Barack.

  11. JD TWP says:

Pablo – I cry fowl. Bread crumbs cannot turn into bird shit.

  12. McGehee says:

independents will be less valuable in this election

    I’m not sure that’s possible.

  13. happyfeet says:

The McCain one is going to be President I think. Baracky is too liberal and wants to regulate everything like in Europe and raise taxes a whole bunch too. Also after awhile his charm wears thin and mostly he comes across as being kind of snotty and obnoxious I think. It’s his thinly veiled contempt for TWPs a lot I think.

  14. happyfeet says:

It’s only March and Baracky’s already reduced to promising people free shit. What a noob.

  15. Pablo says:

Bread crumbs cannot turn into bird shit.

    That’s Book of Rosie 3:13, ain’t it?

I think so too, hf. The moment this occurred to me is when my wife started to talk about Obama’s minister. Now, Mrs. Cowboy is smart, and–not because–she has a Ph.D. She’s not, however, a politics junkie like me. People at her level of political interest may not know much about Obama’s Marxist leanings, but…they’ve seen that video of Jeremiah Wright talking ’bout his whitey hatin’. Like it or not, that video is attaching itself to Obama, and on a meaningful conscious level, people who only pay a little attention to this campaign (that is, most of us) associate bigotry against typical white people with BHO now.

I was about to type that Ms. Thor has a Masters in Psychology yet can’t fry an egg, but that would be a lie. Ms. Thor fries a mighty mean egg, in fact. It’s moving parts that make her go dumb, as in planes, trains and automobiles, but that’s of no consequence given that she’ll vote for Obama, and do so because he’s young, smart and has a hawt smile. In the Thor house we just assume every muddied mix hates whitey. Being comfortable in knowing no matter what they say in the dark reaches of their church will render no alteration to our given hue, we believe said dark-speak matters not.

    White Peeps for O!

  19. serr8d says:

Ace thinks McCain might have jumped the shark…for good. Heath Schuler couldn’t play pro football (ask the ‘Skins) and he might be a few yards short on this one, too.

  20. happyfeet says:

Ace seems kinda excitable. That sort of thing can be progressive a lot really if you don’t catch it in time. I’ve only heard a couple interviews, but Schuler seems like a genuinely dumb man. Remember Lincoln Chafee? Like that.

  21. Rusty says:

If Hillary and Obama keep stepping on their respective dicks, McCain is a shoe-in. I don’t think it will be a matter of if Hillary tells another whopper, but when. Someone should start a pool.

  22. Chairman Me says:

I’m not surprised that more of Hillary’s supporters are willing to cross over to McCain in the general if Obama gets the nomination, and I think more than usual will. If you check out some of the lefty sites out there, the Obamorons are as venomous to Hillary as they are to Bush and Cheney. That can be more than a little off-putting, and it’s very short-sighted of the Obamorons who will need all Democrats on their side come November.
