“Dem bill would trigger huge new taxes on guns, ammo”

Fox: A pair of Democratic lawmakers are proposing steep new taxes on handguns and ammunition, and tying the revenues to programs aimed at preventing gun violence. Called the “Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act,” the bill sponsored by William Pascrell, D-N.J., and Danny Davis, D-Ill., would nearly double the current 11 percent tax on handguns, while raising the levy on bullets and cartridges from 11 percent to 50 percent.

Stop your embarrassing screeching, alarmists: Obama DIDN’T BAN ammonium nitrate

He simply used an executive order that empowers the federal government to take “additional measures […] by executive departments and agencies (agencies) with regulatory authority to further improve chemical facility safety and security in coordination with owners and operators.” (See Sec. 1 of E.O.) And to do so, he created a new bureaucratic working group,  the “Chemical Facility Safety and Security Working Group,” under the control of DHS, EPA, and the Department

Colorado Democrats reject recall elections

Which, they have that in common with Rick Moran. So congrats! But here’s the kicker. The reason some progressive supporters give for their anger over citizens’ attempts to recall a pair of state reps? Is that such a procedure unfairly allows constituents to intimidate representative into serving the interests of those constituents.. I shit thee not [my emphasis]: As in New York and Connecticut — which both limited debate and

Anybody know what a mint julep is?

Turns out, its just a sprig of mint muddled with crushed ice and a tea spoon of sugar, then a whole shitload of bourbon atop it. I felt all Southern aristocrat last night, so I tried one. Or ten, if you’re going to nitpick. But honestly, how dare you judge me! Anyway, I’ll be back later. Nap time. Followed by a half-dozen 7-11 chili cheese dogs. Before I re-pass out,

Jobs are a right! It was an audacious move that has divided public opinion in Italy and brought into focus the country’s low productivity and high labour cost crisis. Earlier this month, the owner of an electrical components factory in the north of the country waved his employees off on their summer holidays. Then, without informing them, he moved the entire operation, lock, stock and barrel, to Poland. Fabrizio Pedroni,

*President Barack Obama told Americans Friday that federal aid is reserved for citizens, even though his deputies have drafted complex regulations to give taxpayer-funded Obamacare subsidies to foreign students and to millions of guest workers. *During President Obama’s wide-ranging interview with CNN’s Chris Cuomo Friday, the president responded to a question about the “lack of action in Washington” with the claim that when it comes to shutting down the government

“With death penalty, let punishment truly fit the crime”

This is a refreshing bit of anti-Mike Farrellism. Prof Robert Blecker, NY Law: No matter how vicious the crime, no matter how vile the criminal, some death penalty opponents feel certain that nobody can ever deserve to die — even if that person burned children alive, massacred a dozen strangers in a movie theater, or bombed the Boston Marathon. Other opponents admit the worst of the worst of the worst

GOOD NEWS! Far left activist organizations to serve as “navigators” for entitlements

I’m not even going to comment, because I already have, several times. I’m just going to quote JohnInFirestone, who sent along this pair of links: “Politically connected, far left lefties with almost unlimited access to personal data. What could go wrong?” Okay, so maybe I’ll add one tiny little comment: This is part of a ruling class effort to put a stake in the heart of limited-government activism by defeating
