“Dem bill would trigger huge new taxes on guns, ammo”

Fox:

A pair of Democratic lawmakers are proposing steep new taxes on handguns and ammunition, and tying the revenues to programs aimed at preventing gun violence.

Called the “Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act,” the bill sponsored by William Pascrell, D-N.J., and Danny Davis, D-Ill., would nearly double the current 11 percent tax on handguns, while raising the levy on bullets and cartridges from 11 percent to 50 percent.

“This bill represents a major investment in the protection of our children and our communities, and reflects the long-term societal costs of gun and ammunition purchases in our country,” Pascrell said.

The lawmakers say the bill would generate $600 million per year, which would be used to fund law-enforcement and gun violence prevention.

Gee, how imaginative!  Why, it’s almost as if these authoritarian nobodies didn’t realize their anti-gun playbook had been leaked — and that when we see bills titled “Gun Violence Prevention and Safe Communities Act” coming from Democrat legislators, we don’t immediately think “cinch your belt and stuff a kevlar plate into the seat of your pants, because these fuckers are looking to bugger the freedoms right out of you!”

Honestly?  I’m a bit disappointed these cynical ghouls couldn’t fit “children” into the title somewhere.

Look: we all know what this is:  a power and revenue grab masquerading as concerns about gun violence.  Because it doesn’t address the source of gun violence, which happens far more frequently in those liberal enclaves that have the harshest gun control laws.  Because criminals don’t pay taxes on black market weapons.   And they’ll find a way to make or get ammo on the cheap.

This is but another backdoor way to infringe on our rights, and it disproportionately affects those of lower socioeconomic status who tendt to live in more dangerous locales and would probably benefit most from legal gun ownership and proper self defense training.  Proving yet again that the Party that pretends it’s for the little guy and is the champion of minorities onlu cares about themselves and their power — and they keep that power by sneaking high-minded sounding anti-liberty measures into law, relying on the fear the GOP cowards have of being labeled “against the prevention of gun violence, and in favor of less safe communities!”

Reagan had it right: “Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”  Only in this case, the subsidies would go to increasing the power of a police state while diminishing the power of individuals to protect themselves.

Liberal fascism, flashing the smile and assuming the  pose of benevolence right before it slaps on the shackles.

Take heart that your post will garner more attention to this bill than will be given to it by other misrepresentatives. We see this crap pop up constantly. Doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep an eye on it, but these kinds of bills rarely get more than a handful of sponsors.

Revised and extended that for you.

Why else would leftists being putting BDSM in the college curricula?

So, democracy is the safeword, right?

    Gotta laugh.
The only thing democrats are creating is a huge black market.

So I have to pay to exercise my 2nd Amendment rights, but producing an ID to vote (which is required for the exercise of Amendment 2) which has been provided to me if I cannot afford one is an undue burden and possibly RAAAAAAAAACIST! ?

I’m one of those small-brained, bible-thumping, cousin-humpers, so these deep, left-created rules confuse me sometimes.

    Mueller,

And projected revenue misses with the guns & ammo tax will simply require: MORE TAXES!

It’s like this is designed to fail…

  7. Shermlaw says:

Well, at least we know, thanks to our eminent Chief Justice, that taxes are okey-dokey even if they infringe on substantive, unalienable rights.

  8. palaeomerus says:

Our inalienable rights are taxable and can be taxed beyond the common man’s ability to pay. Because magic.

  10. Every time I think I have enough ammunition, the politicians quickly prove me wrong.

More like gun violence and law-enforcement prevention. But who cares what the effect is? That’s just a secondary consideration, after they’ve dried up our ability to protect ourselves.

  12. Squid says:

Too many children are killed by gun violence. Not enough children are killed by Choice(R).

There you go. The Dems’ platform in a nutshell.

  13. scooter says:

At least it doesn’t have “comprehensive” in the title. Excerpt:

“Comprehensive” today is a euphemism for interminably long, poorly drafted, and entirely unread — not just by the people’s representatives but by our robed rulers, too (how many of those Supreme Court justices actually plowed through every page of Obamacare when its “constitutionality” came before them?). The 1862 Homestead Act, which is genuinely comprehensive, is two handwritten pages in clear English. “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act” is 500 times as long, is not about patients or care, and neither protects the former nor makes the latter affordable.

They could really save time and money by having us honest folk give ammunition directly to our local law enforcement officers.

I assume that gang bangers already give back at least 50% of there ammo back to their local community.

    At 1,000+ fps.

    “Here, catch!”

  16. Ernst Schreiber says:

I didn’t think handguns generated that kind of velocity.

  17. JohnInFirestone says:

Unlikely in a concealed carry piece but bigger handguns, sure.

  18. cranky-d says:

I believe a 1911 clocks in at the high 700s to mid 800s. It makes up for it in bullet mass.

  19. RI Red says:

    Try .357 Sig @ 1300+.

  20. John Bradley says:

Split hairs if you must, the important part is that we be seen as more-than-willing to give our ammunition to, well, anyone who wants it. As quickly as possible.

Shows that we’re team players and all.

Yet another bill targeting the people who don’t commit the violent crimes.

  22. geoffb says:

These loading are fairly hot but usable in well built handguns that are rated for +P.

  23. geoffb says:

If you like velocity but are on a budget get a new manufactured Yugoslavian Tokarev for about $250 and the ammo pushes close to 1600 fps.
