On contemporary conservatism and the GOP’s future: my Washington Times interview, part 2

Part 2. Please note that the answer appended to the first question as currently posted is not the answer I gave to that question, but rather reprises an answer I gave to another question in part 1 of the interview. I’ve emailed Mr Cotto about the problem but have not heard back as yet. Here’s the exchange as it actually took place: Q: Over the last several years, the American

Senate to vote on Manchin-Toomey this afternoon

4pm EST. My worry, and it’s a legitimate one — though it may seem counterintuitive — is that Lindsey Graham, a target for a TEA Party challenge in 2014, has already come out against the amendment after having voted to help bring it to the floor. This is political theater, with the difference today being that with more people focused on how national party politics works, less of us are

David Sirota of Salon on Boston Bomber: I SEE WHITE MEN!!! [Darleen Click]

Is there any depth of indecency that the Left will not plumb? In those awful episodes, a religious or ethnic minority group lacking such privilege would likely be collectively slandered and/or targeted with surveillance or profiling (or worse) if some of its individuals comprised most of the mass shooters. However, white male privilege means white men are not collectively denigrated/targeted for those shootings — even though most come at the

Here’s why we shouldn’t support any additional background checks

Because when left up to the discretion of law enforcement, those law enforcement officers given to being pricks will be pricks — and you’ll either comply with them or you’ll suffer.  How much you suffer — or where they’re allowed to exert their prickness — depends on just how much leeway you give them to presume you guilty until you prove otherwise. And that’s what these universal background checks do:

Apologies

I’ve tried to go on with my day as I would any other but the story of the 8-year-old boy who died as a result of the bomb blasts has taken me to a really dark place.  Which I suppose is the point of terrorism.  And for that I’m ashamed. Ashamed, and also sick to death of the leftist jackals, be they in the media like Nicholas Kristof or Chris

A passing thought

What are the chances that the bombings were carried out by a Boston resident who simply hates the logistical inconveniences caused by the Marathon? Or hates / envies joggers (the bombs appeared to target the lower extremities, and were packed with pellets, ball bearings, and nails or tacks)? — And of course, who doesn’t like his taxes being raised, because he doesn’t want to pay his fair share…? Which raises

Left vs. Right: part one of my interview with the Washington Times

Joseph Cotto, who writes the “Conscience of a Realist” column for the Washington Times’ Communities section, recently contacted me for an interview in which is discussed the ideological layout of the contemporary blogosphere (along with my part in it).  Part one of that interview can be read here. — Followed, inevitably, by disparaging words from tim b. and maybe even EricPWJohnson in the comments, unless I miss my guess.

FBI to hold press conference 9:30 am EST re: bombings [updated]

I noted last evening that investigators had converged on a residence in Revere, which they later searched.  Reports are still circulating about a Saudi national as a “person of interest” — though whether this means he is a suspect or a witness hasn’t yet been made clear.  Also unclear is if that same “person of interest,” who is in custody in a local Boston-area hospital, is also the inhabitant of

“Large police presence in Revere connected to Boston bombing”

FOX Boston: A law enforcement source tells Fox 25 that a large police presence at a home in Revere is related to the Boston Marathon bombings. The source said that a suspicious driver was pulled over by Revere police after driving past the State Police barracks a number of times. The driver reportedly had a “nervous demeanor.” The driver then led police, as well as the FBI, to a home

Breaking: pair of explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon [updated]

CBS: Several people have been hurt in two explosions near the Boston Marathon finish line, CBS Boston reports. There were two booms heard from near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel. WBZ-TV says the medical tent near the end of the marathon course has been filled with many people who have been “gravely injured.” It happened around 2:45 p.m. outside Marathon Sports on Boylston Street, according to
