I noted last evening that investigators had converged on a residence in Revere, which they later searched. Reports are still circulating about a Saudi national as a “person of interest” — though whether this means he is a suspect or a witness hasn’t yet been made clear. Also unclear is if that same “person of interest,” who is in custody in a local Boston-area hospital, is also the inhabitant of the apartment searched over night.
The death toll has climbed to three, with one of the victims, an 8-year-old boy, killed while greeting his father near the finish line. The boy’s sister and mother were also injured and may have been maimed.
Doug Ross has a map and before and after photos here.
As I said yesterday, I don’t really care who did this: because whoever it is needs to be strung up from a lamp post and publicly flogged. Once they receive due process, naturally.
After 911, one of the things I wrote about on several occasions was the possibility of Islamic terrorism coming to the streets of the US, much in the way the happen in, say, Israeli pizza parlors. I noted at the time that I thought such a strategy by Al Qaeda and its affiliates would be a huge tactical mistake — that Americans are willing to accept a bit of soul-searching and the faux-earnest, politically correct condemnations of their own supposed culpability that the “progressived” and many academics would invariably toss off in an orgasmic fit of intellectual onanism just so long as they weren’t constantly confronted with an ongoing war waged in the homeland.
Because once that begins happening, all bets are off.
I’m still convinced this is the case, though the progressives have made great strides in turning much of the country into a cocooned nanny-state in the intervening years. So it remains to be seen, should this attack be part of an ongoing war declared by Islamic radicals, whether such a strike will wake a sleeping giant, or wake a sleeping pussy. Cat.
update:
FOX News reporting that the Saudi national is not believed connected to the bombing. Which means Chris Matthews can breathe easy.
They’ve ignored previous events by claiming it was the act of a lone wolf, unaffiliated with any group, etc.
But then that is a brilliant strategy , isn’t it? They can continue to carry out these random act w/o coalescing a majority of angry Americans.
Because – it’s a lone wolf.Which the Obama administration is more than happy to go along with, because he’s making everyone love us, etc.
Yes, it was his house and he’s still a “person of interest” and not a suspect which must be why they searched his house, right? He apparently made statements about there being another bomb and was asking whether anyone was killed.
If it does turn out its another Saudi here on a student visa, do you think we’ll get some common sense “muslim student” control? How many of the 911 assholes were here on “student visas” or work permits? Why are we even letting “youths” from that part of the world into our country? Can we ban “assault muslims”?
Pablo, the media is surely not going to jump to conclusions if this was an Islamists.
Of course, if they had a white, male, American as a person of interest, they’d already have a boat-load of people discussing the looming danger of tea-party, racist hate.
Hung and then flogged? I would think the other way around would be most effective.
I don’t know how many Americans would fight back and how many would rather just fight their fellow Americans to SHUT UP about Muhammad.
At least Penn Jillette is honest about how he feels …

Carin, they already have that without a white male American person of interest.
Meghan’s coward daddy is suspending his amnesty campaign for to deal with teh crisis
the more things change
I wonder what it would take for Maverick to suspend his Senate career.
No, slart. He would be strung up alive. Before he wasn’t.
What the hell is Elizabeth Warren doing yapping here?
Can you believe that Obama reached out to Boston? They didn’t have to call him or nuthing.
Whatta guy.
The dog is grateful for the scraps Master throws, Carin.
Car
Obama is still campaigning and his good little soldiers won’t let a crisis go to waste.
I would have been embarrassed for Elizabeth Warren but then I remembered I hated her.
So instead I pointed and laughed.
Figuratively.
I’m running the half marathon in detroit in October, but I doubt any sort of terrorist would want to risk their lives to come to detroit to cause mayhem.
I wonder about this person of interest being in the burn unit. That’s a great place to hide someone. There are no visitors allowed and no one but hospital staff is allowed in the burn unit. Also this Saudi guy could now be disguised in bandages.
If the “person of interest” isn’t actually burned, he has no business being in the burn unit. The burn unit is one of the most expensive to maintain in all of the hospital and if he isn’t actually injured, he is taking a bed that could be used for one who actually needs it.
Let’s all send him a plant so he can contract pseudomonas, get gangrene and die.
Leigh, our government would NEVER hid people from the press and public in a hospital, etc.
No noose, then? Some kind of harness designed just to suspend him while he was flogged to death?
I am all for an unceremonious headshot, on account of he/she doesn’t deserve the notoriety. Headshot with no ceremony, at the local landfill, with his remains spread via seagull and crow shit so as to prevent a marker being put up.
Yeah, I know Carin. I was just spit-balling.
Slart, I would suggest handing him up by his heels and handing out canes to smack away at him. Sort of a human piñata.
If a bomb went off in Detroit, would anybody notice?
I have often thought that Detroit should be razed, plowed and the debris picked up. How big is the abandoned portion of the city? It would make nice farm land.
That’s an amusing idea, Carin, but I still lean toward quick, low-profile execution. In the presence of the families of the affected if they wish, but with no media presence.
Headshot. None of this execution-machine stuff. Too much windup. March the dude out on the midden heap, then shoot him in the head with a 9mm. Because the shells are fairly cheap, and why throw money away?
Because the shells are fairly cheap, and why throw money away?
You obviously haven’t tried buying 9mm lately.
the city is actually rather nice.
shut up. It is.
There are a few nice neighborhoods here and there that could be saved. Where my house is. Indian Village. Parts along woodward. Lafayette Park.
Is mostly the hoods that are ruinous.
You know that’s the way the Russians do it, Slart. You are sentenced to death. They take you in a sound-proof room. They bust a cap in your melon. Behind the left or right ear, iirc.
Done and done.
It was the hoods I was talking about, Carin. Have you ever seen all the old photos on Lileks’ blog? They are gorgeous. Sadly, he juxtaposes them with their current state of decrepitude. It’s enough to make you cry.
Dewey from Detroit also has a photo gallery up in his archives. (He is the husband of the gal who does the MOTUS blog.)
Just take a cue from the Chinese, squid. Send the family a bill.
Still cheaper than the pomp of electrocution or lethal injection.
I admit that even finding some 9mm might be daunting, but consider: people might be inspired to donate.
I’d donate if I had some. I’d donate a .38SP, and I have a few of those.
In a pinch, you could have someone shoot him in the head with .22LR until he stopped twitching.
I didn’t know that about Dewey! I love MOTUS.
Yes, I’ve seen all the photos. Most of it I’ve seen first hand. I grew up DOWNtown. I used to ice skate on Belle Island, etc. While I was obviously born after the decline began, I’ve seen a lot, including much that was hidden, because my dad was an architect/developer.
Not to go o/t, but my dad was involved – actually – he was the designer – of Trappers Alley, which eventually turned into Greektown Casino. That building was -long ago – a fur trading bank. I lived in that building for few years, and it was amazing. Stepping into yesterday. Much of the old glory of detroit – they just shut the doors and walked out. There were these amazing building, often with gorgeous furniture and all sorts of treasures to be explored – just THERE. I got to explore a lot.
That sounds really cool, Carin. My dad was also a developer, but we were building vacation homes in Californistan for the Nouveau Riche. There is no cool old architecture or history in beachfront property or mountain cabins.
A lot of those horrible looking (from the outside)building were amazing on the inside.
The Fox theater is one example- it was amazing, and when I was a teen was used for small rock concerts etc – I saw U2 there. It was bought up and refurbished to it’s former glory. It is amazing. People prefer to talk about Detroit’s destruction, and don’t realize it still has some amazing sites.
When I lived in Reading, PA, there was a move afoot with one of the heritage groups that wanted to preserve some of Reading’s former glory (believe it or not, it was quite something 60-80 years ago). Unfortunately, their chosen target of an old theatre was so far gone it would have been cheaper to tear it down and rebuild a replica than to restore it.
They lost and the theatre came down in a rather spectacular implosion.
Of course, if they had a white, male, American as a person of interest, they’d already have a boat-load of people discussing the looming danger of tea-party, racist hate.
Which tells me it’s NOT a white tea-party racist male.
Leveling Detroit, isn’t that the McGuffin in “Robocop”?
Robocop III. But then Detroit went and halfway leveled itself without an evil corporation being necessary.
The cheapest thing to shoot right now that ammo is readily available for might be a 12 gauge or 20 gauge shotgun. If you insist on a rifle, a 270 Win round is probably the best answer right now. If you insist on handgun, I see .327 Magnum on the shelves consistently/
“You are sentenced to death. They take you in a sound-proof room. They bust a cap in your melon. Behind the left or right ear, iirc.”
Sometimes they gave you an “appeal form” to fill out, then whacked you while you were concentrating on the form.
Actually sort of a merciful way to do it, when you think about it.
Beats cooling your heels in the cooler for 20+ years before you get the needle, if you ask me.
Envelope tests positive for ricin at Washington mail facility
Why not hanging? All you need to do is buy rope and find a tree?
Also, it’s a humiliating way to die, as you defecate and urinate on yourself [apologies, ladies].
