Civility NOW! [Dan Collins]

Responding to the hithertounforeseen senseless rage of conservatives unleashed against The One during the opening days of his administration, a new grassroots movement, Civility NOW! has arisen.

Former Clinton adviser Lanny Davis heads up this important new movement, tirelessly jetting from talk show to talk show to undertake the important task of reminding Americans that we are all bound together by common interests and should give our new President the courtesy of a long political honeymoon.

So, please, people: let’s show some respect–if not for the man, then for the office of the Presidency. Because if we besmirch that, how can we expect to receive different treatment when it’s our man in the White House?

    Actually, B Moe, as I recall it began during Reagans Presidency; that’s when the Democrats invented what would become known as “the politics of personal destruction”. It started with Robert Bork’s nomination to the supreme court. You see, even before Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell’s expected retirement Senate Democrats asked liberal leaders to form “a solid phalanx” to oppose whoever President Reagan nominated to replace him. On the same day of Bork’s nomination to the Court, Ted Kennedy (D-MA) took to the Senate floor with a strong condemnation of Bork in a nationally televised speech. Here’s Teddy:

    Robert Bork’s America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens’ doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists could be censored at the whim of the Government, and the doors of the Federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens for whom the judiciary is — and is often the only — protector of the individual rights that are the heart of our democracy… President Reagan is still our president. But he should not be able to reach out from the muck of Irangate, reach into the muck of Watergate and impose his reactionary vision of the Constitution on the Supreme Court and the next generation of Americans. No justice would be better than this injustice.

    Now there’s some REAL civility from the lion of the Senate, eh?

    And then there was the so-called Biden report, prepared for Joe Biden, then the head of the Senate Judiciary Committee. Bork later said in his book, “The Tempting of America”, that the Biden report, “so thoroughly misrepresented a plain record that it easily qualifies as world class in the category of scurrility.”

    Say it ain’t so Joe!

    Their next victim was John Tower. Big Bush nominated him for Defense Secretary in 1989. But the Democrats, still smarting from the Dukakis debacle, chose to use this as an avenue of revenge. They alleged that as the former Senator from Georgia, he was far too cozy with many of the large defense contractors there. And, although seemingly incredible today, Tower was criticized for rumors of heavy drinking and womanizing; the Democrats were shocked, Shocked! that a single man would be involved with women…

    And of course, we all know the BDS inspired venom and hatred that has spewed for the last 8 years. And while many may try to use the war as an excuse for their dishonorable, disgusting, uncivil behavior, the fact is that it had begun long before owing to the Democrat sense of the entitlement of Al Gore to ascend to the Presidency following Clinton…

    I mean, the one! rose petals strewn in his path, effectively, at his inauguration; Bush had eggs thrown at his car as well as hundreds of federal employees, GWU and Howard U students-and their professors-line his parade route with their backs turned to him…

    Now there’s civility for you!

    No, the left in this country has worked hard during the perpetual campaign of the last 8 years, and sown the vile and divisive winds of today; now they can reap the whirlwind…

Baracky was a lot not ready or worthy of being a for real president. Think on this: He picked Joe Biden to be his Vice President. What a dipshit move, but emblematic I think. Even Republicans are gonna have to help prop up this fuck to some extent. I won’t be a part of the propping up, but I sure as hell hope someone steps forward. Not that I won’t vilify them for it.

    Instead of the line item veto, he could do the “Line Item 3-pointer”.

    Each line item is presented and if Obama makes the 3-pointer it’s in. If he misses, it’s out.

Remember, Bush never campaigned as Jesus. The ground where his base stood was never particularly fertile for the sowing of doubt, since expectations for what Bush would do were rational and relatively well-delimited by his campaign. With Baracky, it’s different, and how that dynamic plays out is the biggest question mark of this fiasco I think.

    The politics of personal destruction of the Left is a built in feature not some bug that came out of the Bork hearings. That wasn’t even the first time they had the power to do it as part of our government. Bringing down Presidents has become old hat to them.

    Remember, “Hey Hey LBJ, How many kids did you kill today”. That was from before the managed to take over the Democratic Party. At that time the Democrats were their enemy. Once they clawed their way into that Party, circa 1968-69, then the Republicans, first in the person of Nixon, became the ones to destroy. His impeachment was the result.

    What this “civility” campaign is aimed at is to make sure that the right doesn’t copy their tactics. They know what they are capable of doing and believe all others are too. Projection, pure and simple.

    They should worry, but not about us burning flags, making giant puppet heads, or holding million idiot marches sponsored by some Nazi front group. Be frightened little lefty children, payback will come. But the form will not be as you do it.

    I should add that this may be a preemptive action of the part of the left. They will put out this “Civility NOW!” campaign (they really do love the CAPITAL LETTERS and !!!!!). Then sometime later claim that it has failed due to the horrible actions of the Right-wing.

    This then can be used as a justification for a political crackdown on all their enemies who are so terrible for opposing their beautiful, wonderful, most perfect messiah.

    President Obama is a very touchy and thin-skinned person. I don’t think he has ever had to suffer calumny and all of the nasty, vicious personal attacks that make politics so much fun. I think that has stunted his defense mechanisms and he can’t really take it.

    I think the Democrat official operatives and the unofficial ones in the press have suddenly realized this. They have to convoy their guy through four years of the the toughest, most visible job in the world. The calls for civility are an admission on their part that they do not think that their hot-house delicate blossom of a President can make it; and an admission that without help from political foes they can’t do this either. The attacks on Fox News and Rush Limbuagh that happened within the first week or two really illustrate the extreme touchiness of President Fragile Flower, and I am going to enjoy watching him try to makes his way for the next four years.
