‘Tis merely a flesh wound…

…So it seems an Israeli drone caught on video the “funeral procession” of a “martyr,” shrouded in a Palestinian flag and being carried by some of his brethren as oart of a Palestinian authority PR photo op. All very somber. …Except for one thing: about midway through the procession, the martyr’s body accidentally fell out of the flag and hit the dirt. [Cut!] No problems. Because as the video shows,

Libertarians, Lend Me Your Ears

Hypothetical question for that strong contingent of libertarians who haunt the blogs: Were, say, Bill Gates and Steve Forbes (and a motivated cadre of the ultra rich), to buy up all the private property in New York City, would they then be able to decide who could or could not come and go on their property — provided they were careful to pick attributes other than race, religion, age, and

Shoes and ships and seal-ing wax….

From U.S. News and World Report: “How Canadian subsidies led to a new slaughter of seal pups”: In the early 1980s, animal-rights protests led to a virtual shutdown of the seal fur industry. But in recent years, the Canadian government has quietly orchestrated a comeback of the hunt, and today sealers kill more animals

The Snatchelor

For those of you still interested (and God only knows why you would be), ‘t turns out that those salacious and damning emails attributed to “The Bachelor,” Alex Michel — emails detailing his conquest of Trista and the cold realities of network TV politics — were faked. The whole thing was a Crimson

No Times Left for you / (on my way to better things…)

Rabbi Avi Weiss of the Coalition for Jewish Concerns is calling for a boycott of The New York Times. Weiss is upset about what he feels has been the Times’ disproportionate coverage of the Palestinian viewpoint with regards to recent events in the Middle East, and so he’s asking people not only to cancel subscriptions, but to refrain from purchasing obits, wedding announcements, and classified ads — a large source

Netanyahu 2004

I just got through watching Neil Cavuto’s interview with Benjamin Netanyahu, and I must say, were Netanyahu eligible to run for President of the United States, I’d vote for him in a heartbeat. He’s the kind of guy who eats waffling diplomats for lunch — a Rumsfeld with political ambitions. Political Correctness cringes at the sound of his voice. Here’s a rough paraphrase of one of the exchanges from the

Do Conservationists Hate the Poor?

The May/June issue of Foreign Policy runs a really interesting essay by Charles Geiser, a professor of rural sociology at Cornell U., that argues how “global land conservation efforts are creating a growing class of invisible refugees” (no link; subscription only). Writes Dr. Geisler: The recent worldwide growth of parks and protected areas is impressive. According to the Switzerland-based World Conservation Union, nearly 29,000 protected areas now shield some 2.1

Everybody’s a Critic

Well, TV Guide’s released its list of the “50 Greatest Shows of All Time,” and “The Red Hand Gang” (Matthew Laborteaux, James Bond III, Jolie Newman) didn’t make it. Pity, that. Some very astute choices on the TV Guide list — though I’m of the opinion that “All in the Family” should have finished number 1, and that “The X-Files” (on the basis of 6 incredibly strong seasons) should have
