Blue Dog Pit Bull Dems?

Courtesy of mojo, here’s a Corner reader trying to puzzle through a couple of competing votes by certain big name Democrats:

So let’s see…they voted to close Guantanamo, which also meant that they could not be detained outside the continental U.S., but they ALSO voted that they should not be transferred to facilities inside the continental U.S.

The only logical conclusion I can draw from those votes, taken together, is that they support RELEASING the detainees altogether.

Well, let’s not leave out the potential for summary executions.

Could it be this is what they’re really after? I mean, you know how outraged our sensitive Democratic leadership gets when it’s accused of being soft on terror and weak on national defense (even as it’s being soft on terror and weak on national defense).

Who knows? Maybe this is an attempt to take national security away from Republicans as a viable campaign issue in ’08. Talk about a butch campaign plank: “VOTE DEMOCRAT: THEY’LL BE NO ABU GHRAIBS ON OUR WATCH — BECAUSE WE’LL JUST SHOOT THE FILTHY GOAT FUCKERS STRAIGHTAWAY!”

Come on, you bloodthirsty neocons — tell me you wouldn’t consider pitching a vote Hillary’s way if she came out blazing like that

  1. It is a stupid move for another reason. If one was really concerned with accountability of the Bush administration, closing Guantanamo is a stupid move. The actions of the US with respect to the detainees are far more easily observed in the declared and open center that is Guantanamo Bay than spread among scores of facilities across the world and controlled not by the US directly but by our allies in the war on terror.

Just a dumb move by those whose principles have long ago been sacrificed to BDS.

Since summary execution for unlawful combatants captured out of uniform on the battlefield is perfectly legal under the Geneva Conventions, perhaps the Donks are just voting according to their true allegience to international law. Nah, that can’t be it. Hugh Hewitt seems to think that they got bungholed by Mitch McConnell in a vote where the Donks forgot they were supposed to vote “no” if they meant “yes” and vice versa. That’s more likely, I suppose, the Donks being stupid as fuck, as well as traitors: (Hit my URI for the link to Hewitt’s article. I’ll be damned if I can figure out how to do a hyperlink in this comments section).

I blame the butterfly ballots they use in Congress. Up is down, black is white, Ric Caric is Socrates, and yes is no.

I’m sure this can be easily explained by either calling Bush a stupid chimp or a criminal mastermind. Or both at the same time, if that’s what you feel like today.

I hate to be the nitpicker, but I just don’t see that much overlap between my interests and the interests of the public employee unions and trial lawyers.

Hmmmmm… that sounds very Reaganesque. Trust, but verify.

    OK, I’ll go for that.

If I hear Hillary saying that, and then watch her personally put a .45 slug into the base of the skull of not one, but two Gitmo detainees, well, yeah, she’d get my vote.

It’s gotta be two, just to make sure that the first one wasn’t just a fluke. To test her grit, so to speak
