Well, to be fair, what he actually says is it’s doubtful Muslims were involved. But if they were (and that’s just a silly hypothetical, one that either 1) has no precedent in recent history, or 2) is far too easy and convenient given the many, many, many precedents) — well, clearly it was the British recognition of Rushdie’s literary prowess that is to blame, not the really quite predictable reaction of Muslims driven to rage and despair by the bestowing of an honorific on an old guy who makes up stories for a living:
Head of Britain Islamic Association said here on Sunday that the situation of Muslims in Britain would be deteriorated in results of finding several bombs in two suspected cars which were to target the Glasgow airport.
In an exclusive interview with Alalam, Al-Sayyed Farjani said while Britain Muslims are strongly condemning the terrorist attacks, unfortunately there are always charges against the Muslims accusing them of involving in these attacks.
Referring to the vital role of Muslims in fighting against terrorism and extremism as well as encountering with violence against the innocent people in Britain, the official said while no group has claimed the responsibility of bombings yet; some extremist parties are trying to accuse the Muslims.
Farjani also strongly condemned the knighthood conferred on Salman Rushdie, adding this odious behavior could have be a main factor in preparing the ground for the youth to join terrorist groups.
Forgive me for my candor here, but perhaps it’s time to explain to certain Muslim “leaders” that a knighthood today bears little resemblance to the kinds of knighthoods bestowed during, say, the Crusades?
From there, we can move on to discussions about the ontological nature of fiction qua fiction vs. the faith-based ontology of revealed religious texts — but, you know, baby steps.

(h/t LGF, who writes, “It’s the Islamic trifectaâ€â€denial, whining, and veiled threats.”)
Yeah, I’m sure that’s right, because Sir Elton’s more their cup of levitating loafers.
Odds are the investigation will reveal the plot was started before Rushdie’s knighting. Odds are that this will never change the talking point that it was the seething anger over an otherwise obscure novelist being granted a meaningless title that spurred the jihadis.
Look, if you infidels would just bend over, pay the Jizya, and never, ever, ever, ever do anything that might be construed as an insult to anyone in the Islamic world, you’d be fine.
Unless you have a problem with the threats, in which case you’re a bigot for calling us violent. Also, we’ll kill you if you continue to do so.
IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE!
Farjani might have a point…it could be onna them newfangled Islmopalians: http://www.standfirminfaith.com/index.php/site/article/4053/
Couldn’t have been Muzzies, have you not heard? Islam the religion of peace………
Yeah, and these newly disaffected youths put together a 3 car bomb plot in 2 weeks.
Sure they did.
A damned shame, that. Wouldn’t you love to see Sir Paul and Sir Mick smiting motherf*ckers in harmony?
Wasn’t Muslims, it was that other religious group rioting over Rushdie’s knighthood.
“The brotherhood of people who bought his last book in the airport for $22 US and spent a full two weeks on the john trying to finish it.”…those guys, tough acronym.
Face it, they are not going to stop until we go ahead and let them have Vienna.
Oh, goodie, another round of “seething” and “protesting”, followed by the traditional gnashing of the teeth and tearing of the robe….
These primitives are quite amusing, aren’t they?
Pity they’re headed for extinction.
Rushdie’s gorgeous wife is dumping him; hasn’t he suffered enough?
Is it just me, or did the grammar in that “news release” read a lot like a Nigerian scam letter?
