Still, Venezuela’s government seems intent on taking harsh action against its critics. The government has announced that it has begun a legal fight against Globovision, a 24-hour news cable station that is the lone dissenting TV outlet in the country now that RCTV is only on the Internet.
Globovision is providing highly critical coverage in the wake of the RCTV closing. Lara, the communications minister, said the government would investigate after the station broadcast images of the 1981 assassination attempt against Pope John Paul II. Officials said that was designed to spur a plot against the Venezuelan leader.
Chávez later publicly warned the station, saying, “I recommend that you take a tranquilizer, that you take it easy, because if not, I’m going to make you take it easy.”
Rather than thank Carter for being such a putz as to help legitimize the reign of Herve Villechaize Hugo Chavez, I’d simply like to point out that in Latin America Venezuelan women are renowned for their beauty (and deservedly so), so, you know, if you’re a dog like me, keep your eyes open for some red-hot protest babes. Does that make me superficial?

Either way, getting some good protest babe shots in the meantime is always a Good Thing.
Not that they will pay attention, but this puts to lie all the Koskiddie Hugophile screeds about the closing of RCTV as just a “non-renewal of a broadcast license and the Rethuglicans are jumping on it as if it means anything”.
So if Chimpy Katrinaburton’s FCC yanked CBS’s license over the Texas ANG debacle, that would be just groovy with the Kommisars at Kos, right?
So the new meme is RCTV promoted the assassination of Chavez, which justifies the license being pulled. Any word yet from Randi Rhodes?
