from the weekend, that I didn’t particularly think appropriapic for Mother’s Day.
First, from David Thompson, red-hot furniture sex.
Second, PowerLine are threatening to liveblog the Miss Universe pageant, which seems to me like listening to the Westminster Dog Show on radio. I.e., it would be nice to have actual visuals. They seem to like Miss Brazil, and she has impressive assets. Personally, I’ll be rooting for Miss Turks and Caicos, because I dig the wholesome thing.
Finally, Darleen’s post, below, puts me in mind of these lines from The Importance of Being Earnest:
JACK Upon my word, if I thought that, I’d shoot myself . . . [A pause.] You don’t think there is any chance of Gwendolen becoming like her mother in about a hundred and fifty years, do you, Algy?
ALGERNON All women become like their mothers. That is their tragedy. No man does. That’s his.
JACK Is that clever?
ALGERNON It is perfectly phrased! and quite as true as any observation in civilised life should be.

appropriapic
At that moment, I thought of my mother.
Which continues:
Jack. I am sick to death of cleverness. Everybody is clever nowadays. You can’t go anywhere without meeting clever people. The thing has become an absolute public nuisance. I wish to goodness we had a few fools left.
Algernon. We have.
Jack. I should extremely like to meet them. What do they talk about?
Algernon. The fools? Oh! about the clever people, of course.
Jack. What fools!
Applauds …. from all
Lady Shrapnell: “Young man, losing one parent might happen to anyone. Losing both begins to look like carelessness!”
If you find yourself tempted to quote Oscar Wilde, Mr. Bartlett says it’s okay to turn the page…
Yes, Oscar would have been very fond of pages, Mark Foley-style.
Miss Turks and Caicos looks like she’s pocket sized, I’d be afraid to hug her for breaking her in half.
Well, it’s a small island…
USA! USA!
What can I say? I’m a patriot.
Since this topic is all about the shallow, I may as well just point out the elephant in the room and say that Miss Turks and Caicos has a HUGE BOBBLE-HEAD.
Sewiouswy. It reminds me of some of the less successful, creepier attempts to render cartoon characters in 3-D.
Ya know, hearing the words “bobble” and “head” in connection with her makes me feel all funny.
