Feministe Has a Point [Dan Collins]

which it then proceeds to blow (though not in the self-debasing way).

AUSTIN — A package left at a women’s clinic that performs abortions contained an explosive device capable of inflicting serious injury or death, investigators said today.

“It was in fact an explosive device,” said David Carter, assistant chief of the Austin Police Department. “It was configured in such a way to cause serious bodily injury or death.”

The package was found Wednesday in a parking lot outside the Austin Women’s Health Center, south of downtown Austin.

Nearby Interstate 35 was briefly closed, and a nearby apartment complex was evacuated while a bomb squad detonated the device.

Says Zuzu:

Had that bomb been found outside a post office or a school, the headlines would have been hysterically running on about ZOMG TERRORISM TERRORISM IS AL QAEDA INVOLVED? And the right-wing warbloggers would be pissing their pants and hyperventilating about profiling Arabs and banning Muslims from public life and dhimmitude and how if they had been there, they’d have stopped it with their concealed carry and their extra-super special powers of righteousness, just like they saw in a movie once and BOMB IRAN! and 9/11 CHANGED EVERYTHING!!! but they still have better things to do than join the military, but they’ll be happy to go into the woods and hunt Russians and shout WOLVERINES!!

But it’s an abortion clinic, so. Ho-hum.

Not so.  Violence against women is more widely deplored in our society than violence against men.  And I don’t think that in the case, for example, of the Unabomber, there was much Ramboid speculation about Islamofascists.  It would be horrible if it were a school, of course, or even, say, a Post Office, because human beings tend to congregate in such places.

She continues:

We saw something similar with the Virginia Tech shooting — the campus police initially dismissed the idea that the gunman would be a danger to anyone else — even though they hadn’t identified or caught him at the time — because they saw a dead woman and just assumed that it was a “domestic incident” and there would be no further violence. Clinic bombings are treated as the equivalent of shrugged-off “domestic incidents” — hey, it’s just violence against women. It’s not like it’s going to affect real people or anything.

And they never call it by its name: terrorism.

I have news for you, Zuzu.  The gunman killed the RA, who was a guy, who came to the defense of the woman.  He was a man.  He was killed.  He also was a person, you nitwit.  And going down the list of those killed, it seems that the gunman wasn’t particularly interested, when it came to killing, in the gender of the victim.  So, you see, you are a jackass; I hope that’s gender-neutral enough.

You’re right that it’s terrorism, though . . . jackass.

…but they still have better things to do than join the military…

So is Zuzu joining the bomb squad going to cut into her blogging time, you think?

  2. Dan Collins says:

Nah.  She’s a woman.  Her life’s worth too much.

If the victim of this crime were a man, it would get way more coverage than Natalee Holloway because . . . oh, wait.

  3. R.L.Page says:

Is it even possible to “get way more coverage than Natalee Holloway” ? Are there enough broadcast hours in the day?

  4. Dan Collins says:

    RLP–

I’m so embarrassed.  It’s obviously because the guy wasn’t blonde. At least as far as I know.

  5. happyfeet says:

Flight attendants are still overwhelmingly female. Many more of them live with a daily suppressed dread and fear than do abortion staff, and they don’t get to feel half as noble about it.

  6. Dan Collins says:

Why should they?  They’re serving MEN.

  7. happyfeet says:

A lot of people don’t realize who becomes the most important person in the world if any of a thousand things goes wrong with that ungainly tonnage of flying steel we call “planes.”

  8. Blue Hen says:

So Zuzu thinks that every time a threat is made to an abortion clinic, we should react the way that liberals did on 9/11. Okay.

Hey Zuz: ask yourself, “why do they hate us”? Then, publish wild reports claiming dread that there will be a backlash of descrimination against wackos with bombs. Then, you can proceed bemoaning root causes.

Once you’ve dissappeared up your own backside, tranquility should return.

  9. Dan Collins says:

I can’t recall.  Is it the Pope, the Imam, or the Rabbi?

  10. R.L.Page says:

That would be Jesus, right ?

  11. His Frogness says:

It strikes me that her parodizing of “right-wing warbloggers” as a bunch of single-minded cry babies is really a form of stereotyping, the exact thing feminists accuse the patriarchy of doing all the time to keep a woman in her place.

But, whatever. Her comments don’t make any sense.

  12. R.L.Page says:

Sorry. Didn’t make it clear that my irrelevant comment was directed to Happyfeet’s question.

  13. Dan Collins says:

Don’t try to get gyneco-logical.  It will only hurt you brain, Your Frogness.

  14. happyfeet says:

I tried. Hell – they got a union what can make this case better than me.

  15. Jeff Goldstein says:

The fact that the bomb was left outside of a women

s clinic—and that no one immediately thought “AL QAEDA”—proves that some profiling did indeed take place.

But perhaps Zuzu would like the police to act “fairly” and waste a lot of time looking at poli sci professors with ties to the Palestinian Authority instead of, say, anti-abortion activists.

This is domestic terrorism.  And it is as wrong as international terrorism.  The difference being that there aren’t a billion adherents giving the tactics of the former a pass.

And really—what in the hell does any of this have to do with “warbloggers”?  And of course, if Zuzu wants people to feel compassion for her cause, she might start by not insulting people who she disagrees with over something totally unrelated.

  16. Dan Collins says:

That’d be great, Jeff, but, you know, it doesn’t feed the narrative (so to speak wink).

  17. McGehee says:

Actually, I think Zuzu is onto something. After all, it’s not as if the cops went to any special effort to catch Eric Rudolph, is it?

    [/sarcasm]

  18. Pablo says:

And those right wingnuts would never use their bloodthirsty death penalty on a guy who brutally slaughtered people who lovingly terminated masses of tissue of indeterminate origin.

    Would they?

Zuzu is, as usual, an idiot.

  19. Pablo says:

And of course, if Zuzu wants people to feel compassion for her cause…

Zuzu would rather you feel her rage.

  20. Scape-Goat Trainee says:

Wonder where Zuzu comes down in the burning of southern churches?

Can’t recall any Country Boys screaming terrorism and rounding up local A-Rabs or anything, but hey, I guess it was all just a joke and no womyn were hurt so no biggie…

  21. happyfeet says:

Myself I can shrug off bombed abortion clinics as easily as I can shrug off aborted fetuses. It’s one of those you kids are going to have to work this out on your own things.

  22. klrfz1 says:

At least at an abortion clinic no one will be asking “What about the children? Won’t someone please tell me what about the children?”

    tw: week18. No shit.

  23. SteveG says:

It’ll probably be found to have been a set up. Like the nut who wrote racist comments on her own car and then claimed a hate crime had occurred.

Too close after the partial birth abortion victory for the pro lifers… so I officially question the timing.

If I am wrong… and spoken as a church going guy…. please find the bastard ASAP throw the book at the evil misguided dickhead… ditto if I am right.

  24. SteveG says:

    Oops… already caught him

    Idiot

They didn’t know who the shooter was, they went after the first suspect they got… this is “shrugged-off”?  Maybe they didn’t think it would be a mass murder because he didn’t go through dorm room by room murdering people? Other cops praised the response, saying a shooter could escape in the panic, but I guess Kojak at Feministe knows better than them.  What the hell did Zuzu think they did?  “Forget it, Lou, just a domestic incident.  No need to investigate.  Just leave that body there.  No real people got killed.”

  26. SteveG says:

Nobody hurt, suspect in custody in less than 48 hours (no genius either, previous record includes robbing a Whataburger)

Seems like the cops are on it to me, but then again I’m a white Christian male.

I blame Matthew Hunter Kramer.  He knew those women were killing future Democrats.

  31. Darleen says:

Good lord…I’m wading through the comments over there and zuzu doesn’t know when to quit digging. When she’s rightfully called on the “you forgot about the dead guy” she STILL is sticking with the “but it was the dead woman that made ‘em think ‘domestic violence’”

    Idiot.

  32. JHoward says:

she STILL is sticking with the “but it was the dead woman that made ‘em think ‘domestic violence’”

Seems consistent with the political climate to me.

  33. Aldo says:

Zuzu doesn’t mention what her preferred response would be to this would-be abortion clinic bomber, but she seems to think that logical consistency requires that one’s response to abortion clinic bombings must track with one’s response to jihadist terrorism.

Isn’t the Left’s prefered solution to jihadist terrorism is “addressing the root cause?” OK, let’s try that one out on abortion clinic bombings:

Presumably, the root cause motivating abortion clinic bombers is an opposition to abortion.  Therefore, if the government outlawed abortion and put abortion clinics out of business, the root cause would be addressed and the terrorism would stop.

Are you OK with that Zuzu?  Surely you don’t want to track down and stop the bomber before the next package is delivered?  That would be too much like us right-wing war mongers!

  34. B Moe says:

…she STILL is sticking with the “but it was the dead woman that made ‘em think ‘domestic violence’”

What does she think would have happened differently if it had been two dudes killed initially?  Is it seriously her contention that the police would somehow have surmised by that a mass murderer was preparing to come back and go on a spree in a couple of hours?

  35. Darleen says:

    BMoe

Certainly there were some missed cues in the initial reaction. The “email” notification was pathetic.

However, as has been pointed out to zuzu several times over that investigations always begin with the most likely cause…and in the vast majority of murders the vic and perp know each other. So why wouldn’t the cops go with the usual first?

The vagina supremacists over there are mad as hell that the bombing attempt wasn’t NATIONAL NEWS!! .. and not, I suspect, as coming from some pure concern for da womyn but because they NEED some sort of “proof” of the evil Patriarchal conspiracy..especially in the wake of the SCOTUS partial-birth abortion decision.

Zuzu mentions “bedwetting” but methinks in view of the rest of her screed, that was a clear case of projection.

  36. Yeah its been a good 20 years since an abortion clinic was attacked by an isolated nut, the lefts “terrorists are morally equivalent to Christers” argument was getting really stale.  I’m sure no radical leftist put that bomb there to make Christians look bad or anything.

  37. daleyrocks says:

How can you focus on this San Antonio story where they appear to have already nabbed the perp, when a much more ominous story affecting womens health is making the rounds today.

According to a large study (6000 women), lesbians are more than twice as likely to become overweight or obese as heterosexual women.  Think of the potential consequences.  Think of the layers of meaning here folks.  We’re talking adipose, baby.

As Rosie would say, Google it!

Has zuzu weighed in on this on yet? Heh.

  38. klrfz1 says:

“He was charged in federal court with using a weapon of mass destruction”

Now we know what happened to Saddam’s WMD. It’s in Texas!

  39. B Moe says:

According to a large study (6000 women), lesbians are more than twice as likely to become overweight or obese as heterosexual women.

They needed a “study” to figure that out?

  40. B Moe says:

Holy shit, Feministe has now officially gone completely off the rails.  Jill takes Ace to task over his fear of vaginas.  Jill, honey, you needn’t worry about your reputation as a humorless bitch.  Well, the humorless part anyway.

  41. McGehee says:

lesbians are more than twice as likely to become overweight or obese as heterosexual women

Not on the websites I frequent have heard of.

  42. BrianMacker says:

I noticed that WMD charge also.  If I were on the jury I would have to find him innocent on WMD charges.  That’s because the public understanding is that WMD are things like nerve gas, and atom bombs, not conventional explosives.  Especially not something as small as a pipe bomb.

  43. Dan Collins says:

The jury will receive instructions that things that don’t constitute WMD in Iraq do in the US, Brian.

  44. daleyrocks says:

    Apparently it’s twoo.

  45. Jeff Goldstein says:

    ****

Sorry.  Just thought I’d write something quotable for Amanda to grab onto and for some of those other sites that love me so to take out of context and use to prove my misogyny.

    You may continue.

    I like to watch.

  49. Mikey NTH says:

I always thought that domestic violence was bad and it should be dealt with as a serious crime. So now if the cops come upon a murder scene and start looking at a possible domestic violence angle that’s a bad thing?

    I’m so confused.

  50. B Moe says:

For what it’s worth, I don’t fear vaginas in the slightest.

Ace called them “little pink ghosts” while learning that the SadlyNo! comment threads are far stupider than they first appear.  Horrible waste of a great line.

  51. Dan Collins says:

Phantom of the Vagina might have been good, too.

  52. But… but… all the lesbians on tv and in the movies are really hot beautiful model types!  And all the gay men are really hot, intelligent, wise, and learned!  This can’t be true!

  53. Bravo Romeo Delta says:

Well, I’m over at Feministing trying to comment.  So far, one comment, one response.  We’ll see how the rest goes.

    BRD

  54. Dan Collins says:

Keep in mind, BRD, that they’re not accepting comments about Dookrape.  It couldn’t possibly be germane to their discussion, because only other people jump to conclusions.
