Begging to Differ [Dan Collins]

Bob Novak is agog at what Hayden authorized Waxman to say (that he wouldn’t be wrong to say that Plame was, under some definition, covert).

Booman forgets the fact that Valerie was so covert, her employment was verified by a Public Information Officer at the Agency.  And he just can’t, you know, believe that Novak keeps attacking her!

Preston Taylor Holmes is saying what a lot of us were thinking, which makes him a very bad person.

I’m just kind of dumbstruck that the AP is the employer that pays Ms. Pickler to write like this. I had not realized that obfuscation has become AP’s watchword.

Oh, and by the way … REPUBLICANS! (I meant to yell. Sorry, innocent bystanders.) Stop playing political football with an environmental crisis of literally global proportions. Use your R&D dollars to create, fabricate, or otherwise invest in alternative energy solutions, instead of playing detective for the next oil and coal fields. Then, you can get rich off that energy policy, too. And you can stop making up excuses for war in the middle east. Wouldn’t it just be easier to harness the wind than to keep appeasing those excitable dudes in the middle east?

You can visit Isaac Schrodinger and friends at the House of Apostasy.  I wish they’d make it Isaac’s House-o&#8217tongue winkostasy, so that we could just call it the IHOP.

Why I Was Fired

I thought I’d let Iglesias have his say before I commented on this (and everyone else was writing about it, anyway).  But . . . why were YOU fired?

Melanie Phillips has her 12th installment of “The War Within the West,” which, in significant part, deals with a certain tough-talking moustache.

A glimmer of hope:

Europe’s citizens must be on their guard against political correctness and moralising politicians, says the European Commission President José Manuel Barroso in an interview with The Daily Telegraph.

The former Portuguese premier and centre-Right politician is concerned that freedom can be the loser in European culture wars over climate change, cheap air travel, Islam and free speech.

Sounds a lot like Vaclav Klaus. (h/t Barcepundit)

Crooks & Liars: Why Does the Right Insist on Spreading Lies About Al Gore?

I don’t know.  Why does Al Gore insist on the practice?  Oh, I see.  It’s because we’re terrified of a Gore candidacy.  I’ll tell you guys, truthfully, that I’m terrified.  I’m terrified of the idea of being lectured down to by this pompous imbecile for four freaking years.

Following California’s lead, Florida is moving to push their primary to January 29. In related news, Illinois is contemplating moving their primary to last year.  Treacher will have a better version of this joke shortly.

    Hey….

Wouldn’t it be funny if Gore controlled millions of dollars worth of shares in an oil company, all the while the Left was attacking Bush and Cheney for their ties to the oil industry?

I mean, no one as concerned with the environment as Gore could possibly be making profits out of the oil industry, or be receiving profits from a strip mine that pollutes the local rivers.

Come on..that would be so hypocritical that even the media and the Leftwing would have to take notice of it….

  2. cynn says:

So according to Preston Taylor Holmes, Edwards is playing the victim card?  Seems like there’s plenty of wind to harvest right there.

  3. semanticleo says:

    Cynicism at it’s best, Collins.

My best friend’s spouse has endured the same plight for 3 years.  It’s is debilitating, but survivable.

Really though, linking to such a trollop is beneath you, unless you’re just trying to restore your credibility with Goldbrick.

Also, environmental catastrophes that will ruin life as we know it on earth are bad, so bad that people should set aside partisan politics in order to work on preventing said catastrophes.

You won’t read it on the AP, but you will read it on Pandagon.

    That one is priceless.

Wouldn’t it be funny if Gore controlled millions of dollars worth of shares in an oil company, all the while the Left was attacking Bush and Cheney for their ties to the oil industry?

That would be almost as funny as a Rockefeller outraged about Exxon profits.  Too bad nothing like that ever happens to embarass the Democrats in the media.

  5. Cythen says:

Can’t be too bad, one of those snakes is making sure that victim has a nice day.

It amuses me that the greenies claim America is the reason that the earth is warming up, and blatantly ignore China.  Oh, maybe the fact that we won’t run them over with tanks has something to do with it.

As for the “excitable dudes”: If it were up to me, we’d pull out all ground forces, and do daily fly overs with our jets, using pinpoint accuracy to blow shit up.  The most discomfort our troops would suffer then is having to deal with the consequences of too much coffee in the morning.

Saudi’s sick of Iran, by the way.

    They’re planning on circumventing them.

Know what else makes a panda cry?

Gerbil warming, broken straps on their birkenstocks, and the fact that they’re not really bears.

  8. Dan Collins says:

I’m sorry, cleo, but I just don’t know how the doctors of the wife of a very successful ambulance chaser are so laissez-faire that the cancer causes a rib to break before its detected.  I just don’t get it.

  9. Dan Collins says:

    Wait . . . they’re not bears?

  10. cynn says:

OK, so I’ll bite.  Edwards is an unmitigated fraud.  Just because.  How will you knock the next one out?  Obama, not black enough, not white enough?  Hillary, defiant she-creature with the bloated body of the Clinton presidency shackled to her ankle?  She’s playing the widow card!!!!  Get me, I’m givin’ out wings!

  11. Dan Collins says:

You know, cynn, just because I link to something, it doesn’t mean that I approve of it.  I do notice, though, that a lot of righty bloggers who don’t really give a rat’s ass about Edwards, I’m guessing (though I can’t accuse anyone in particular), feel compelled to offer lip service.

Yes, she’s a person.  I guess it’s news.  Personally, I didn’t feel moved to say anything about it, but felt that there was a lot of platitude floating around.  Preston’s view is not very generous, I’ll agree.

    I hope she gets well.

  12. cynn says:

Obviously, I don’t know the reason for the announcement against running, and the subsequent reversal.  Something tells me that is personal to the Edwards family, and I’ll leave it there.

I will say that while I don’t venture into the harsher rightwing sites, by and large the right has shown great empathy for Edwards.  God knows, there are some splenetic types on the left who would have eviscerated a winger candidate who “used” family illness for political benefit.

Just don’t go there, that is all.

  13. alphie says:

    Bob Novak?

Now there’s an unbiased judge of Plame’s covert status.

I think Hayden’s about to get the John Kerry treatment.

  14. MayBee says:

How will you knock the next one out?

Surely we can tie someone to the murder of the Pakistan cricket coach.

  15. Dan Collins says:

I think Novak asks some good questions, alphie.  Not that I haven’t seen them asked before, but I’ve never seen them laid out in the MSM in quite so concentrated a form.  And once again, I’ll point out Waxman’s diction: “He said that I would not be incorrect to say so.”

  16. Allah Carte says:

    the John Kerry treatment

A happy ending after the spa?

  17. rickinstl says:

I think Hayden’s about to get the John Kerry treatment

I doubt that Hayden is the type of breathtakingly opportunistic man-whore that Kerry has proven himself to be.  Therefore, accurately quoting Hayden’s statements, and reviewing his history won’t turn him into a national joke.

    No worries alpo.

  18. Matt, Esq. says:

the very MINUTE you prove to me global warning is an environmental disaster, then i will take it seriously.

    But not before.

  19. BoZ says:

I’ve found the paucity of references to the tragedy-offsetting effect of Edwards’s self-proclaimed spirit-channeling powers and the total absence of back-atcha “A little patience, and we shall see the reign of witches pass over” quotes in the rightosphere today disgusting. And that hug-diagnosis story is the steamingest crock poured down America’s throat since Carter’s attack rabbit–and you know it.

Say it. Your lies make baby Jesus cry, too, fake-compassion-cons.

    And for the lefties:

This is a man who admits he voted for a war he always opposed–who condemned thousands of American soldiers and, by the count you and he favor, well over half a million random innocent brown people, to their deaths–just to keep himself in a job. Fuck him and anyone who lives off his blood money. They’ve already sacrificed their humanity.

Say it, you craven, power-fellating shits.

  20. Pablo says:

Hillary, defiant she-creature with the bloated body of the Clinton presidency shackled to her ankle?

    Ahem.

I believe that would be cankle.

    that is all.

  21. furriskey says:

Questions, questions. Let’s take ‘em one at a time.

    Q. Had not Plame been outed years ago by a Soviet agent?

    A. There is no evidence that Valerie Wilson was agent whatsoever

OK, let’s take this apart one bit at a time:

    Q. outed years ago by a Soviet

    A.  outed to a Soviet

If you don’t know the difference between “by a” and “to a”, I suggest you stay well clear of the Duke changing rooms.

I can’t be arsed to go back and link, but the other thing that amused me in Booman’s slack drivel was his glossing over the word “was”.

I realise that after the Clinton thing, Democrats would prefer not to be pinned down too closely on the meaning of either “is” or “was”. But here’s a hint.

    “Was” denotes the past.

Semeclit, how you have the temerity to question anyone else’s compassion, when you think it clever to use “spastic” as a term of abuse, continues to fill me with repugnance.

  22. alphie says:

    My furris,

Are you saying even neocon fairy tales have standards?

  23. happyfeet says:

when you think it clever to use “spastic” as a term of abuse

Spastic is a different word here than in the UK. It just is. I don’t want to go on about it though.

  24. Jim Treacher says:

    Money comment:

I’d say it took a hell of a lot of restraint to pass on this one from our favorite shrinking violet:

Ah, Nedra Pickler, my favorite incompetent hack. Pray tell, why was Dawn Eden fired but fucking Pickler has a job? She’s the lazy, partisan hack who yanked a press release from a hard right wing Republican hit organization (the Catholic League) and ran it as hard news, all in an attempt to separate me and Melissa from the Edwards campaign. She’s proof positive that incompetence and loathsome, unethical partisan hackery will get you everywhere in journalism nowadays.

…but in blogging for politicians, not so much.

Now we have entire right wing republican hit organizations. Catholic League = PraiseOn.org, dontcha know. And “hit” still = “quote verbatim”.

    tw: mind69

Jeff, why is the Turing word generator trying to kill me?

  26. Major John says:

Hey, we have already voted in the Illinois primary – and we’ll vote again, soon.  And then some more – just because we can.

  27. MayBee says:

Spastic is a different word here than in the UK. It just is. I don’t want to go on about it though.

    That’s very true.

On a related note, when I was young we referred to things being “retarded” all the time.  About a decade ago it became a completely unacceptable thing to say.  Lately it seems it is back with a vengeance.  I don’t really have a point, but I do find it interesting.

  28. I don’t really have a point, but I do find it interesting.

    sure, you retard.

  29. E. Nough says:

You know, for a while I’ve been wondering how the U.S. should deal with this Climate Change problem without having to commit to a position on whether the world is warming, whether humans are causing it, and whether great harm will result.  (Not that I’m personally unwilling to stake out a position; but the country clearly isn’t.)

Here’s my solution: let Europe, Canada, New Zealand, and all the other Kyoto boosters deal with it.  Make it entirely their problem.  Without disputing the Gospel of Gore, the U.S. will officially refuse to cooperate in greenhouse-gas reduction.  We will not make any attempt to reduce our carbon footprint, and sign onto no goals for doing this either now, or at any other point in the future.

Whatever reduction Europe et al want from us, they will instead have to make themselves, however they choose.  Literally, every ton of CO2 they want us to chop off our production, they will have to chop off their own.  The United States will freeload.

If Europe et al. agree to this, then all is well and good: Gore gets his CO2 reductions and the U.S. doesn’t sacrifice its economy.

If Europe refuses to go along, beat them with their own stick: the planet is about to undergo a catastrophe, yet you are bickering about “fairness”?! If they continue to refuse, then clearly they don’t really see a looming disaster, and their piety is for show.  Table the issue.

Obviously, if Europe et al do go along with this modest proposal, it’s possible they will develop superior energy sources that we’ll want to have.  Great!  They have borne all the development costs, and we’ll be acquiring the technology at a subsidized rate (because of the “looming disaster!”).

In the end, we’ll either have forced Europe et al to bear all the costs of climate change mitigation, or exposed them as sanctimonious hypocrites.  All at no cost to the American economy.

    Any takers?

Sounds good.  And if you can get China (and just where did all of those Clinton/Gore illegal campaign contributions come from again?) to sign on as well?  I’ll buy pie and new tap shoes for the armadillo.

  31. alppuccino says:

Surely we can tie someone to the murder of the Pakistan cricket coach.

That’s easy Maybee, Joe Wilson killed him with his bare, registered-as-lethal-weapons-hands because he was about to go soft on him over a marble cake deal gone bad.  That Joe Wilson is one bad mutha fu………SHUT YO MOUTH!

  32. furriskey says:

    Not that I recall.

    Are you saying they don’t?

Slave means something different in Saudi Arabia to over here, but that doesn’t make it acceptable.

  33. Blue Hen says:

Are you saying even neocon fairy tales have standards?

    1. Stop callig people ‘fairy’. Hater.

    2. Yes neocons have standards. The pesky jews always have standards. See ‘The Protocols of the Elders of Haliburton’. George Soros got to write a cover blurb once he became a stockholder.

    3. Don’t be envious. One day you might have standards Alphie. Until then, you’re just another self-contradicting malicious troll.

    4. Why don’t you toddle off to your dark corner and give yourself another dose of the ‘John Kerry’ treatment?

  34. RC says:

Actually it’s segments of the left that have already called Obama, “Not really a Black Man”.

See he’s more nearly of African descent, so instead of being an “African American” he’s an “African, African American” and doesn’t really know about the “African American” experience, don’t you know.

I sh*t you not.  Some author being interviewed by Prager or one of those.  Heard the words come right out of her mouth.

As for “Cankles”, come on, what the hell else is there to call her.  Sometimes a woman really is a feminist because she’s ugly, and sometimes a cankle is a cankle.
