Patterico has an important post up outlining the issue, including what was deleted by the LA Times to make the case for scandal.
Meanwhile, “most ethical administration in history” player H-Rod calls for AG Gonzales’s resignation. “[B]uck has to stop somewhere,” just so long as it’s not here.
NYT op-ed pretends shock to make case for “political cynicism.”

What more proof do you need that Bush’s policy in India is failing?
Well if they were morons they needed to be replaced.
Interesting point of view. Leaving the issue of homosexuality on one side, I would have thought that moral judgment is an essential qualification of any officer and prticularly of a chairman of the joint chiefs.
What does she want? An amoral military?
Anyone care to hazard a guess how many US Attorneys were confirmed in the 105th Congress?
I count 18, as a minimum. Whether they were “fired”, “asked to resign” or just moved on to greener pastures is something we may never know.
The 105th Congress was 1997-98, in case anyone’s baffled.
List of 18 here. I didn’t want to cut and paste.
What baffles me is, how come Jeff doesn’t own a Unicorn.
Hey, y’know how the lefties are drooling on about how “we need to kill this meme that Janet Reno fired all the US Attorneys, because it never happened? Weeeeelll…
How you like them apples libs? Dang, it’s inconvenient when the Memory Hole goes on the blink, and we can’t disappear troublesome news accounts…
BTW, the Supreme Court case explaining the presidential power to fire political appointees, and Congress’ lack of power to interfere with that presidential power (grounded in Article II, Section 2 of the Constitution), is Myers v. U.S.
Pete Stark shows tremendous courage in the face of what will almost certainly be his public execution as a heretic.
It’s time I stepped up to the plate as well:
I do not believe in Global Warming.
He used to have one, Furr. But that was before the ‘dillo threw that big barbeque that nobody showed up for (curiously enough, because he forgot to invite anyone), with all the meat that he couldn’t explain where it came from…
This, as Dr. Drakken once lamented, is why They Can’t Have Nice Things.
I don’t know whether to offer points for referencing Kim Possible, to deduct them for doing so on PW, or to offer them for having the balls to do so on PW.
I DO approve though.
So, is Hillary smoking crack?

…oh wait
You’re missing the point, AJB. Clinton fired all the federal prosecutors. At once. And it was defended to high heaven, despite the political (and ass-covering) motives.
Bush fired eight, and it’s being spun as purely political and a scandal. By the same people who defended Clinton.
It isn’t “Clinton did it too”, it’s “wait, this didn’t bother you”.
To which I heartily add: “..so shut the fuck up and come back when there’s a real scandal.”
And I know it’s been hard to find one what with the Scooter Libby diversion, I mean case, taking up all of your time.
But it still doesn’t excuse sloppy conspiro-theorizing.
How many did Bush fire, again, after he took office?
Let’s see: just looking at the congressional record, US Attorney confirmations in 2001-2002 included: 14 on October 11, 2001; 13 on November 6, 2001; another 13 on October 13, 2001; 12 on September 14, 2001; 7 on November 30, 2001, 5 on April 12, 2002, and several others in dribs and drabs.
Looks like it might have been a clean sweep, even if it wasn’t done all at once.
Slart—those numbers don’t indicate if the same offices were cleared and filled more than once.
In the same year?
I don’t think so, Robert. But I could print you a list, and we could go over it to see if there are any repeats.
