Two Things David Geffen Has Right [Dan Collins]

Americans are dying every day in Iraq. And I’m tired of hearing James Carville on television.

Word.

On the other hand, this seems to be why Geffen has it in for the Clintons:

They fell out in 2000, when Mr. Clinton gave a pardon to Marc Rich after rebuffing Mr. Geffen’s request for one for Leonard Peltier. “Marc Rich getting pardoned? An oil-profiteer expatriate who left the country rather than pay taxes or face justice?” Mr. Geffen says. “Yet another time when the Clintons were unwilling to stand for the things that they genuinely believe in. Everybody in politics lies, but they do it with such ease, it’s troubling.”

Call me nuts, but I just think it’s worse to murder federal agents than evade taxes (even in offshore accounts, even from oil), and there are millions of kooks like me out there, I suspect, so maybe Barack ought to worry a bit about getting tight with the Geff before it turns into a marcottocaust–Hollywood cash or no Hollywood cash.

Also, apparently Obama lies.  So, we don’t have to worry about the Second Coming yet.

And, yeah, I’m amused by this dustup, but I have to tell you . . . owing MoDo for the laughs makes me feel a little dirty.

Morning WT%$#!? Design your own Hallmark Journeys card

Have a nice cuppa Joe Malchow on the UN’s response to the asteroid danger.  I say we send a crack team of astronauts to cover the thing in Preparation-H, and then when it enters the atmosphere it will absorb more oxygen and . . . what are you sniggering about?  You got a better idea?

I can’t Gitmo . . . satisfaction.

I can’t Gitmo . . . good redaction.

But I try.

Drink your coffee before you read this:

The brain in Spain flows mainly down the drain.

They crash the planes and then they flame the trains.

Rudy Giuliani: Overzealous Persecutor?

UPDATE: Swen, son of Swen knows something about the Peltier case and thinks the guy was framed, whereas I just talk out of my ass.  So, I recommend that you listen to Swen on this one.

    WTF? Where’d my post go?

Re: th asteriod menace. I think we ought to make a berm of soft earth about a mile high , where the asteroid will land to cushion the blow. Then we can float a superstrong net made of spectra fiber on helium ballons in the path of the asteriod to slice it into smaller pieces and absorb part of the energy.

Hey- don’t dismiss it out of hand! It worked in Palestine, right?

….. It didn’t work in Palestine?

    Oh.

    Never mind!

The Democrats will self-destruct before the next Presidential election. Remember, you read it here second.

  6. Swen Swenson says:

One wee problem with the Peltier case: The FBI’s witness against him turned out to have given coerced testimony. Other portions of the FBI’s case appear to have been “fake but true”. There are a couple books out on the topic (1, 2), which give me the distinct impression that the FBI needed to crucify someone and they picked Peltier, then manufactured a case to convict him. Very scary stuff and I highly recommend both books.

  7. Dan Collins says:

Interesting, Swen.  Then do we have any idea why Clinton declined to pardon him?

Gas, grass or ass. Nobody rides for free.

    Peltier came up short.

    Dan,

Maybe something about not having a hot wife or making megabuck donations to the library?  Pure speculation, but I always was a skeptic.

  10. Bender Bending Rodriguez says:

    Klassic Klinton Komedy Kwote:

“If Senator Obama is indeed sincere about his repeated claims to change the tone of our politics, he should immediately denounce these remarks, remove Mr. Geffen from his campaign and return his money.”

…and he should quit the race and he should campaign for Hillary and he should give all his money to Hillary and he should change his name to Hillary Ohillary and walk around in manly pants-suits saying “Look at me!  I’m pretty little Hillary!  I’m smart and tough enough to be President!”

So Bill Clinton’s “wife” asks someone else to return money because the donor is a big meanie?  Is there a word stronger than “irony?”

…and the horse32 she rode in on.

I suggest that you not take the books cited by Swenson at face value.  A quick online search reveals numerous problems with the notion that Peltier was railroaded.  Not saying that it’s proven one way or another – but it looks like it’s far from settled that Peltier was wrongly convicted.
