Progg Side of the Moon [Dan Collins]

Progger BooMan thinks that Senator Joe Lieberman is trying to lead the US world to extinction.  The evidence?  According to The New Yorker‘s Jeffrey Goldberg, he’s fascinated by Mark Steyn’s America Alone: The End of the World as We Know It.

The argument goes something like this.  Lieberman’s moved by the demographic argument.  Chris Dodd thinks it’s not so easy to establish democracy in the region.  It follows that Lieberman is

[a]n ‘uncomplicated neo-conservative’ that thinks it is America’s mission to fight alone against the rest of the world, including Europe, against the threat of Islam; that is Joe Lieberman, and if we follow his advice the whole world is doomed.

I was unaware that Lieberman thought as a matter of policy that the United States ought to go it alone, and of course there are some people who would argue that if we don’t resist Islamofascism then the Western World is doomed, but those are niggling details in progument.

What cinches this worrisome charge is that Lieberman appears not to have the fondness for the Democratic Caucus that he did prior to this past election.  I guess he’s the kind of guy who holds a grudge.

He saves the best suggestions and observations for last:

Let’s face it. Lieberman is bordering on insane in his irrational fear of Muslims. We should consider having him committed.

Why?  Does he seem . . . dissociative?

You’re out there all alone, Joe. Your grasp of reality is slipping by the day. And the people back home are beginning to notice.

You know, somebody reminds me a bit of Syd Barrett.  It’s not Lieberman, though.

A final glimpse into the fascinating mind of a Progg:

Later, a leader of the local Strafford County Democrats, Tim Ashwell, said, “This is a very antiwar community.” I asked him about Lieberman, and his hapless 2004 campaign for the Democratic Presidential nomination; Lieberman placed fifth in the New Hampshire primary, and dropped out of the race soon after. Ashwell didn’t find that surprising. “People don’t think of Lieberman as a Democrat,” he said.

More and more, people don’t think he has a handle on reality either.

I’ve seen a lot of weird progument, but I never saw anything quite so . . . the dude’s like a kooky, unmoored political Art Bell.

P.S.  I hope this turns into a kerfuffle, so that Allah can post something with the title BooMania, if he hasn’t already

P.P.S.  Go check out Wuzzadem John’s bitchin’ new foot!

Thank god all the vitriol is on the right… but maybe we can find another stroke victim to take Lieberman’s seat…

  2. alphie says:

Seeing as ethnic cleansing and genocide are the only “solutions” to “demographic problems,” reasonable people do indeed get a little jumpy when politicians start talking about “demographic” problems.

  3. happyfeet says:

This has happened before – Mark David Chapman and Catcher In The Rye remember? Books have consequences.

  4. Gray says:

reasonable people do indeed get a little jumpy when politicians start talking about “demographic” problems.

    I agree completely!

The racial rhetoric from the British Imams and Amadinejad in Iran makes me total jumpy!

TW:  I hope there is a place for us in the Islamic world66.

  5. Dan Collins says:

    alphie,

You seem to understand this kind of stuff.  Can you map out the logic of this argument for me?

  6. MarkD says:

    aphid,

It looks like the Dem outreach to religious Americans is over.  They don’t even want to keep the ones they’ve got unless they toe the party line.

  7. OHNOES says:

Seeing as ethnic cleansing and genocide are the only “solutions” to “demographic problems[…]”

Which is why the best solution is to ignore any demographic problems.

I’d really like to geta working definition of “people” in that context.

Reason 15A that the entire primary/caucus method of selecting the most powerful person on the planet should not rest with New Hampshire and Iowa as the starting points.

  9. steveaz says:

    Let the Religious Wars begin!!

The high Priest BooMan has officially excommunicated Joe Lieberman.  Now, only the voters stand in the way of the Priest’s decree.

It appears The Great BooPriest needs sensitivity training.  Obviously, knee-capping the “mentally-challenged’ is not one of BooMan’s taboos.  Yet, all the while, the “insane” Lieberman’s rankling of Islamists is.

Somehow, it’s just not adding up.  So I give up.  Who can draw a staight line through anything the lefty-Dems say anymore?

  10. Jeremy says:

Wasn’t there a country, one might say a bloc of countries, where straying from the ideological dogma of the Party would get you “committed” due to “insanity?”

    It seems all so familiar.

  11. Seeing as ethnic cleansing and genocide are the only “solutions” to “demographic problems,” reasonable people do indeed get a little jumpy when politicians start talking about “demographic” problems.

errrr, no, I think you’re forgetting that other thing we can make besides war.  but, far be it from me to suggest “punishing” anyone with children.

Are we entering an ear where the government will put out PSAs saying “Please Hippies, help your country- screw like rabbits!!!”?

  13. Mark says:

What I remember most about the Dem primary fights of ‘04 (other than the comical nature of 3/4s of the wannabes) is that Lieberman’s voice inflections were to put you to sleep regardless of the subject matter.

Had he reached inside and consistently delivered his talking points like he did the other day on the senate floor, he may have pulled it off back then.

TW: help43, yea I guess he did!

  14. Patrick Chester says:

I thought we were supposed to ignore alphie, even when he projects his own tendencies upon others…

  15. Ratko Mladic says:

    Mark Steyn:

Why did Bosnia collapse into the worst slaughter in Europe since World War Two? In the thirty years before the meltdown, Bosnian Serbs had declined from 43 percent to 31 percent of the population, while Bosnian Muslims had increased from 26 percent to 44 percent. In a democratic age, you can’t buck demography—except through civil war. The Serbs figured that out—as other Continentals will in the years ahead: if you can’t outbreed the enemy, cull ’em. The problem that Europe faces is that Bosnia’s demographic profile is now the model for the entire continent.

That’s too far even for me.

I can see that the Social Security Administration is going to be a far more interesting place to work over the coming decades.

SGiC – I think the saying you’re looking for is “Lie back and think of America.”

You’re out there all alone, Joe. Your grasp of reality is slipping by the day. And the people back home are beginning to notice.

This must be new since three months ago, when he was comfortably reelected.

  18. alphie says:

Ghoulish freaks like Steyn always remind me of my favorite Dickens passage:

Will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die?

It may be, that in the sight of Heaven, you are more worthless and less fit to live than millions like this poor man’s child.

Oh God, to hear the Insect on the leaf pronouncing on the too much life among his hungry brothers in the dust.

Let’s hope Steyn and his ilk keep spewing their crap right up to the 2008 election.

  19. B Moe says:

Let’s face it. Lieberman is bordering on insane in his irrational fear of Muslims. We should consider having him committed.

Let’s face it. Leftards are bordering on insane in their irrational fear of Leiberman. We should consider having them committed.

Ghoulish freaks like Steyn always remind me of my favorite Dickens passage:

Will you decide what men shall live, what men shall die?

Foolish freaks like alphie always remind me of my favorite B Moe passage:

Will you let another decide what men shall live, what men shall die?

  20. mishu says:

And let’s hope Hillary! hires alphie to be her campaign blogger.

  23. Imam #3 says:

This Dickens person, the one who insults Islam – Where is he, that we might bring him to justice?

  24. Bravo Romeo Delta says:

    Alphie,

    You state:

Seeing as ethnic cleansing and genocide are the only “solutions” to “demographic problems,” reasonable people do indeed get a little jumpy when politicians start talking about “demographic” problems.

I apologize as I am a bit slow today and haven’t had any coffee as yet, but I was curious about why you immediately dismiss immigration and integration as two possible means for addressing this class of problems.

    BRD

  25. Mikey NTH says:

Which demographic problem was Sen. Lieberman referring to?  The demographic problem of too much of “the other” or the demographic problem of the current generation not replacing itself with children?

  26. BJTexs says:

    Alphie forgot the one certified solution to the problem of demographics;

    1) Identify the the area of increased demographics.

    2) Around that area build The Mile High Dirt Bermâ„¢.

    3) Lather, rinse and repeat.

The solution is so elegant in it’s simplicity that I’m frankly shocked that alphie didn’t propose it.

  27. N. O'Brain says:

Seeing as ethnic cleansing and genocide are the only “solutions” to “demographic problems….”

Quite the little fascist, aren’t we, alpo.

What’s next, are you goiung to be making up code word like “Endlösung”?

  28. Pablo says:

I apologize as I am a bit slow today and haven’t had any coffee as yet, but I was curious about why you immediately dismiss immigration and integration as two possible means for addressing this class of problems.

It’s the Stalin in him. He can’t help it. Such is the lot of a progressive.

  29. Phil K. says:

Pablo, he’s just a liberal in a hurry.
