The other day Tim Blair had a post on Oz’s own lefty nutcase Michael Leunig, and he included some choice quotes from the Great Man, one of which I thought I’d share with you guys. I’m pretty sure you’re allowed to plagiarize yourself, unless you’re John Fogerty, so I’ll be cribbing from my comment there on this, but here, in all its glory, is the Wisdom of the Left:
Faced with Osama bin Laden’s delusional self-righteousness, Leunig wrote this, only months after 9/11: “Might we, can we, find a place in our heart for the humanity of Osama bin Laden and those others? On Christmas Day can we consider their suffering, their children and the possibility that they too have their goodness? It is a family day, and Osama is our relative.â€Â
That should be made into a poster to encapsulate the pomposity, the self-regard, the cluelessness, the desperate need of lefties of that type to think themselves better and smarter and more able to see truthiness in all its grand nuances than us hayseeds who just see an evil, murderous piece of shit who will be surprised to find himself here when he, thankfully, draws his last breath.
You godbag wingnuts could take a lesson from Herr Leunig. If you morons would just learn to do a little self-examination before inflicting your simplistic, uneducated, bloodthirsty reactions to stuff like this on the world, we wouldn’t be in this mess. After all, these are poor, downtrodden brown people who have been suffering under the hegemony of the West, especially the Joos, for lo these many years. Can’t we all just get along?
For more pearls of Leunigian wisdom, go here.

I think what he is suggesting is a pretty tall order and not particularly realistic, but wasn’t that the message of Jesus Christ? Why wouldn’t the religious right embrace such a message?
They’ll have to answer that for themselves. I suspect it has something to do with Christian teachings being more subtle and sophisticated than lefties tend to believe.
I’m certainly not one of the “religious right”, and I think the bastard—and all those who support his like, cheer them, or even tolerate them—should be killed.
That was then.
This is now.
Onward, bitches.
LOL…stevexx, Jesus was speaking personally. Render to Caeser and all that jazz. The state has to do what the state has to do. But if you would like to befriend osama, go ahead and have fun.
“Turn the other cheek” isn’t a suicide pledge. I’m sure God loves OBL, but that doesn’t mean that I’m morally wrong in wanting to see him jettisoned into the sun balls first.
Nuance.
RFN,
So would Jesus be like Leunig if he were alive today? Would he have his own left-leaning blog? Or would he:
?
So, the folks who agree with Leunig can be referred to as “Leunies”?
I think it was your clowns who let Osama escape, Dan.
All the tough talk might go over better if it was backed up with competent action…
I don’t deal in hypotheticals, steve.
Bubba is yours, Dan? Why didn’t you tell us?
Alphie, if your reading comprehension skills are anything like your analysis of history and current events, it’s no wonder you come up with the crap you do. That wasn’t posted by Dan. And once again, you manage to combine a bullshit lefty talking point and an irrelevant observation into one tasty package. Nice work.
Do you consider Afghanistan and Iraq successes, Craig?
What the hell are you talking about? Unlike during the Clinton years, Osama’s not exactly on an international speaking tour.
Compared to the sweep of Afghan history, yes Afghanistan is a success story. It won’t become Switzerland overnight, or even in one generation.
I’m going to give a brief answer to your comment, Alphie, but I’m not going to engage with someone who either can’t or won’t debate honestly. It’s a waste of my time to wander down all the side streets and dark alleys of your mind in a vain search for an argument, your last comment being a prime example of that.
I was specifically referring to the “You guys lost Bin Laden” comment.
End of exchange.
One can only hope that if He were alive today, He’d take a page out of Jim Carey’s book and be busy making monkeys fly out of suicide bombers’ butts.
I appreciate the pro-war crowd wants to keep the debate focused on ideology, but everyone else is looking at actions and results these days.
I wonder if Mr. Leuning thinks that the same sort of forgiveness should be applied to Bush. I’m betting not.
Also, I’m not feeling a whole lot of love or forgiveness coming from Osama, so maybe Mr. Leuning should try to focus some of his efforts that way.
Fixed that for ya, Alphie.
The best part about alphie is that he keeps insisting that his position is not pro-war. He really must believe that pulling out American troops will end the war.
What drugs must be consumed to believe such a daft thing?
Gorilla biscuits and Pabst.
Me and 75% of the Iraqis who want us gone, DG.
I’ll trust their judgement over the judgement of those who got us into the Iraq fiasco in the first place.
Hey alphie, can you back up the 75% claim?
75% of the secessionists here in Virginia would be interested in seeing that. I hear the Carolinas and Georgia might be interested too.
Also, where can I get some Gorilla biscuits?
We could always let the Iraqis vote on whether our troops should stay in their country or not, DG.
I think we all know why we haven’t.
I’ll have a word with my clowns, but did you think I was going to leave it to my mimes?
OK, I admit it, I can’t read! I thought we were voting on softer toilet paper.
Leaving aside whether DC is a state, is alphie suggesting that DC needs 100 nuclear power plants?
In the name of Oppie and Bohr, why??
(But then, one might ask that question of alphie’s very existence. WHY?????)
D’oh, wrong thread!
alphie, they’ve democratically elected a government to represent them, and that government wants us to stay.
