Reading the comments over there makes my head hurt. I especially liked this one:
And just think – they (â€Âthey†being white, Southern, conservative males) used to lynch black men for doing less in the direction of white women.
But not THEY as in, you know, THEM. I find it amazing that this person is gung ho for collective guilt in this circumstance when I can guarantee he/she would be against it in the cases of minority street gangs, etc.
If I’m gonna get blamed for Swiftboating Marcotte (and I will—after all, I’m the one who placed the Duke post excerpt on the Edwards blog), I wish I could at least squeeze a link out of it from Johnson or Taranto or Reynolds or Newmark, et al.
And people say I’m paranoid about being marginalized.

Ok, sometimes I miss the asteric. I just think to myself, “this is just Jeff’s wierd sense of humor that I don’t understand.”
I’m wondering if some of these candidates (or their minons) think about checking out the blogs of the bloggers they ask to write for them. Jeff is right about Amanda. She is unacceptable by anyone’s standard.
I had really kind of wanted to believe that Amanda was just a happy little Austin slacker who had written some boisterous posts here and there. The more I read at her old blog the unlikelier this seemed. Turns out, she’s a cooze. So I am glad she is moving to North Carolina. I hope she completely gives up whatever low-rent situation she had going on in Austin so that it’s next to impossible for her to return.
I happen to know Amanda from an earlier time as she graudated in the high school class with my son and was the girl-friend of his best friend. She had an incredibly snotty and arrogant attitude towards her fellow classmates, including my son, whom she felt to be ignorant and naive West Texas rubes.
At the high school senior prom, she dressed as one of the travestites from the Rocky HoOrror Picture show. No one understood what her outfit was because one one had ever seen the movie. (I had, but was only a chaperone there, not a student, and therefore did not comment.) She was outraged that her costume did not cause a stir. She loudly announced slowly for everyone to be enlightened as as though she was talking to kindergarteners where the costume came from and how important the movie was culturally. When the students did not react with shock, awe and wonder, but with continued cluelessness, she basicailly went into a sulk for the rest of the prom.
Half of the graduating class was Hispanic and generally poor and the large majority of Anglos there also came from families having incomes well below the national average. You cannot tell me that she identifies with the “common man.” She is a cultural snob with the politically correct attitudes of the far left who identifies with the “cool” culture.
Keep in mind that this is anecdotal—I have no way of proving it one way or the other—I just found it interesting, if true, in light of the whole “Two Americas” thing.
How old is she? I can’t imagine anyone under 40 who remembers the Rocky Horror Picture Show fondly enough to dress like one of the characters!
To be honest, it was totally a white fraternity type (or drama major type) of movie to go to. The frat types loved to go and be drunk and do all those stupid things you do at that movie. I can see how no one else knew who she was.
Does anyone else think she might have made the first comment on her “Stuck at the airport” post to try to make it seem like people are putting it behind them?
After James Taranto brought attention to the words above, Marcotte deleted them (so much for “transparency†in the Edwards campaign).
Gee, why would she go and do that? She was pretty full of herself back when she preached to her smallish choir. Will Ms. AmandaPandaBGone be like brave Thersites and take down the entire site?
The cleanup crew is being deployed, but the mess is permanently stained upon the fabric of the internet.

According to her MySpace acct bio, she graduated from HS in 95. That would make her about 2-3 years of age in the spring of ‘79 which is the first and only time I ever saw it. I wonder if they played any Meatloaf at her Sr. prom.
Also according to her MySpace page, she graduated from Alpine (TX) HS. I live about 2 hours from Alpine, which out here means we’re as good as next door neighbors. They’re in the same athletic competition district as our HS. Obviously I can’t vouch for ptolemy’s entire story, but I can vouch for his description of Alpine kids. He nailed ‘em. About half are relatively poor Mexican-American kids and the rest are relatively poor, very rural white kids.
It’s a bit strange that one of the more conservative parts of the country produced a high profile fantasy league moonbat. Maybe it’s because Alpine’s girl’s athletic teams are called the Lady Bucks. Maybe that contradiction in gender terms fucked her head up.
I bet I know where AmandaPanda got her ideas from in little ol’ Alpine.
I try to spend as much time in Big Bend as possible but one thing I didn’t know about the area until I moved to Manhattan: chic’s have been buying up tracts out there for some time. In the 70’s Donald Judd started buying up acreage near Marfa. Anybody that can get some dipshit to pay 100K for a four foot square, 3/4” plywood box must be kinda smart. It’s a great place to drop-out.
Elites come from the East and West Coasts, South America and Europe to be off the grid in West Texas. The really great thing about it is there aren’t really any posers. There’s fuck-all out there.
BTW, as cynn was unaware of the history between Marcotte and JG, I searched the site last night for posts in which Jeff had commented on her work. Lots of the Pendagon posts Jeff commented on are gone. Thought it might just be a technical thing, but maybe it wasn’t.
Hit & Run has a post up on Marcotte airbrushing Pendagon titled, “The Campaign to Sham America.” The main post is indignant and funny. The comments include:
I’d be willing to forgive her, but she’s not very hot.
Sine we previously discussed Edwards vs. Marcotte on Iran, Edwards coincidentally did an “interview” on his Iran position with Klein at TAP so fluffy it makes Entertainment Tonight look like 60 Minutes. The piece does establish that Edwards is looking to win the primary in Fantasyland, maybe even sweep EuroDisney.
I’ve been wondering if the President talked about “the income gap” and how it’s been growing for 25 years just last week. Or is it only when John Edwards talks about it that it’s wrong. I’m just trying to figure out where B Moe and the President disagree. I assume this is one of those places?
“We have an obligation to help ensure that every citizen shares in this country’s future,”
“We have an obligation to help ensure that every citizen shares in this country’s future,” he said. A key solution is improving education for all Americans so they can compete in an increasingly knowledge-based economy, he said.
That’s equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome. It also has fuck all to do with “the income gap”.
Bush may not be a socialist, but he’s not a conservative either.
Or is it only when John Edwards talks about it that it’s wrong.
BTW, Timmah! How dare you pose a question like that when you tucked your tail between your legs and ran away from this one?
And speaking of Edwards on Iran, here’s what he says in the American Prospect piece Karl linked above:
Here’s my view about what we ought to be doing in Iran.
Number one, you have a radical leader, Ahmadinejad, who is politically unstable in his own country. The political elite have begun to leave him, the religious leaders have begun to leave him, the people aren’t happy with him, for at least two reasons: one, they don’t like his sort of bellicose rhetoric, and second, he was elected on a platform of economic reform and helping the poor and the middle class, and he hasn’t done anything. In fact, while he was traveling, the leaders of the legislature sent him a letter saying, ‘when are you gonna pay attention to the economic problems of our country.’ So, I think we have an opportunity here that we need to be taking advantage of.
But you said that negotiating with him is “a fine example of an alternative to war”. Edwards doesn’t seen to think so. He seems to think that we should undermine him, you seem to think we should legitimize him. You also said that:
Where’s my blender?
Get that SWEATER out of the way!*
Weren’t there funyons here a second ago?
Puppies ate ‘em.
But let’s not ruin the mood, shall we?
I assume you are referring to this.
coming soon to a campaign blog near you:
Wes Clark is throwing his hat into the ring.
Managing his campaign blog is clearly a job for the blogger soon to be formerly known as Retardo Montalban.

Those are penised puppies, aren’t they?
They’re fucking evil, you bastard!
I just know it.
For some reason, the anchor link to a comment on the durham-in-wonderland blog in update 2 isn’t working, so I’m moving the link here, instead.
Here’s the comment in full:
[my emphasis]
Here’s the broken link.
Keep in mind that this is anecdotal—I have no way of proving it one way or the other—I just found it interesting, if true, in light of the whole “Two Americas” thing.
Puppies.
I’m sure she made a good “travestite.” Pity no one noticed.
Too slow, Defense Guy.
I happen to know Amanda from an earlier time…
Sweeeeet.
How many transvestites were in that movie, anyway? Seems to me there was just one. And I’d expect that costume would have caused a stir all right.
These are the bestest puppies ever. Really.
Has anyone heard whether Amanda’s super-thin-definitely-not-in-any-way-fat boyfriend is moving to North Carolina as well?
How old is she? I can’t imagine anyone under 40 who remembers the Rocky Horror Picture Show fondly enough to dress like one of the characters!

I think Taranto is just jealous that nobody has offered him the high profile job of pimping the Two Americas canard.
KC Johnson, too.
That’s the 10 Americas canard, boyo.
John Edwards’ Two Amandas canard.
The cleanup crew is being deployed
Well, I saved her OJ=Duke players thread locally.

10 Americas: the one that speaks binary, and the one that doesn’t.
Old is all I’ve got; sorry.
I have been wondering if Edwards Two Americas is a devious variation on the Benchely Paradox?
I’ve been wondering if the President talked about “the income gap” and how it’s been growing for 25 years just last week. Or is it only when John Edwards talks about it that it’s wrong. I’m just trying to figure out where B Moe and the President disagree. I assume this is one of those places?
“We have an obligation to help ensure that every citizen shares in this country’s future,”
Wow, now he’s one of the socialists?

How about the whole quote, Timmah!
That’s equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome. It also has fuck all to do with “the income gap”.
Bush may not be a socialist, but he’s not a conservative either.
Timmy, I’ve changed my mind. Go back to your old nickname.
I believe there are Two Americas, timmy:
the America that believes there are two Americas,
and the America that doesn’t believe there are two Americas.
Which are you, a Ben or an anti-Ben?
Ah, little timmy b.
Where is your link to my accusing your legislature of treason, you miserable little piece of cow spittle?
How can you have the fucking impertinence to go on polluting this site with your maunderings when you can’t substantiate your outstanding lies?
Put up or fuck off. God, you are a boring little twerp.
BTW, Timmah! How dare you pose a question like that when you tucked your tail between your legs and ran away from this one?

Square that please. Is Edwards a nasty old warmonger? Are you a tool? Which is it?
Please do not allow timmy the fuckstick to derail the thread. That is all.
On the contrary, Phil. I predict we won’t be seeing him in this thread anymore.
The mail just came, and still no check from Edwards.
I guess there are two Americas – the ones that pay the bills, and the ones that pay with other people’s money.
TW: cent86. About what’s left.
Not really. She’s rebelling against the people who (she feels) mistreated her as a kid.
After reading some of Karl’s links, I’ll have to agree that Ms. Marcotte is out there. Poor John
Edwards; kind of like asking your kooky Aunt Edna to plan your wedding. Oh, well, swim with the sharks and all that…
Swimming with the sharks is one thing. Swimming into their open jaws, is what poor Johnnie is doing.
