For what it’s worth, if I’m to believe that some rampaging neoconservative deathsquad forced a group of six peaceful progressives at gunpoint from a Whole Foods store (where the six had gone to pick up some oil-free artichoke hearts and spirulina, and of course to pray to the sprout display), then doused them with Menorah oil and set them ablaze—all while the local Likudniks looked on in either a tacit display of approval, or else a pointed disdain for organic farmers and their consumer stooges—I’m going to need more than the word of “Retardo Montalban XX,” who, it is becoming increasingly clear, either doesn’t exist at all and is an amalgam of non-credible sources cobbled together under a single, useful propaganda construct; or else is a pseudonym for some actual person who fears attaching his own name to his bloody flights of fancy.
And, of course, to his poetry—though for the latter, I can hardly blame the poor sap.
Developing…
How dare you question our sources? We’re venerable, goddamnit!
It actually happened. I saw it. Well, I didn’t see it, actually, but I heard from several people who did see it. Unfortunately, I can’t divulge their names without endangering them.
And I’m real.
Really.
I swear.
Hmmm. There’s not enough parking at the Whole Foods in Ann Arbor, so there’s this hilarious caravan of cars producing EVIL CO2 wandering around the lot aimlessly at all times.
They wouldn’t have noticed the human torch–they’re too focused on gunning their engine as a warning to others when a space is about to open.
I should mention that the MSM continue to claim that 5 or 6 Iranians were abducted in Irbil from a “consulate,” even though the Pentagon denies that characterization of the building in question, and documents show that the Iranians were attempting to have the building designated a consulate, but that it hadn’t been accomplished.
This story, which provoked considerable media outrage, seems to have disappeared. Does it have anything to do with Bush’s new shoot-to-kill approach in Baghdad? Does it have anything to do with the soldiers abducted and executed by people dressed as American soldiers?
It would seem to be a simple matter to discover the official status of the building in question, one way or the other, but nobody in the MSM seems interested.
Sometimes I just don’t understand you people, the AP doesn’t need sources, it is the source.
Here in Illinois, an unsourced source fed the MSM that six young adults were hit with missiles as they fled a Catholic church on Saturday . . . .
Translation—Catholic teenagers threw balloons at each other . . . parents were upset.
Meanwhile, at Mahablog, they are discussing the WoT is an overreaction. 9/11 really wasn’t so bad. I’m guessing that they think we should wait until there’s a Stalingrad type siege on us before we could fight back.
Nope. Then they would say it was too late, and we should’ve done something sooner.
They’re nothing if not inconsistent.
CONNECT THE DOTS, NEOCONS! YOU ARE ALWAYS WRONG!
Again?
Do a piece on the Karbala thing or on the Najaf attacks. Hussein is last month’s news.
Really? And what is last month’s answer?
I’m sure Jeff can hardly wait for your input on what to post about next, TimmyB.
Maybe you could provide a prioritized list of topics that you approve of. I’m sure it would be quite helpful
And the reason we don’t trust this month’s news so much.
Bell’s right in the sense that the jihadis don’t currently pose an existential threat to the US itself. However, certain other forces somewhat loosely allied with them might.
At any rate, I’m strongly in favor of making sure that the jihadis continue not to pose an existential threat, by killing lots of them.
“Again?
Do a piece on the Karbala thing or on the Najaf attacks. Hussein is last month’s news.”
Suggestion:
Write your own blog….
<blockquote>They lament that they support wars such as WWI or WWII or say that they support the War in Afghanistan (always only in relation to the War in Iraq, but they will be quick to point out that Afghanistan is really a failure for whatever reason is en vogue for that second), but they quickly forget that they opposed US involvement in both World Wars & falsely predicted that Afghanistan wouldn’t be a success & could never be won.”<blockquote>
WTF? America’s involvement in both World Wars was led by the two most liberal administrations of the 20th century. For Christ’s sake, PMain, I can still produce relatives who will tell you FDR was a Commie, yet against conservative Republican opposition in Congress he forced through Lend-Lease, he sold destroyers to the UK, and instituted a peace time draft. His administration and its oil embargo (tough love) is what caused Pearl Harbor. After the war, Democrats and liberals created NATO and provided the theory of containments. The led the country to war in Korea and Vietnam. Apparently, they did not oppose World Wars.
The Democrats in Congress backed both the AUMF for Iraq (stupidly) and Afghanistan, continue to support the war in Afghanistan (name a mainstream liberal who opposes US involvement in Afghanistan…and, no geniuses, Ward Churchill is not a mainstream lefty. He is on the fringe with the folks that declare the WTC was an inside job. He is the left’s Larry Nichols or Jerry Falwell).
Point is as you continue to wage the war that matters to you, PMain, against the left wing in America, the left is not as bad as you think it is. I know that all sorts of layers and contexts to disagreements and severely limits who you declare is un-American, but life’s rough that way.
What’s weird is there is a sub-set of Americans who are described in the post, but those aren’t left-wing Americans any more than David Duke is a right wing American or the morons who claimed Janet Reno killed those nice people in Waco are conservatives.
There used to be anarchists, communists, revanchist Confederates, and KKK members as part of the American body politic. That doesn’t mean Sacco and Vanzetti were liberals, anymore then Charles Lindbergh was a conservative. Take your shot at the hippy professors on the corner if you like, but don’t call them liberals.
There is more to world than your philosophy, Horatio, errr PMain
Wrong thread guys, sorry.
Has anyone seen last month’s correction/retraction?
Didn’t think so.
Again sorry for the post on the wrong thread (I have to keep the window small, ‘cause I’m at work).
Anyway, Dan, they found Mr. Hussein, Michelle’s camera work shows some damaged mosques, althoughshe has it on good military authority (the people that told us the cop did not exist) that aome of the others are NOT damaged, and the Ap still stands by its story.
Now, i know, this is bigger than Hussein. The big story is that the AP is a bunch of idiots who use people who work for our enemies. Since we all agree to that*, can’t we talk about Najaf?
So, if we just the words “meme” and “traitor” and “will to win”, can we just move on?
And the good news is that this is at least tangentially related to the subject! I know all you slck-cutting guys and gals won’t make a big deal of that thread thing.
*I don’t agree to that, but I want something befitting the current news.
And his name isn’t Hussein and he denies being AP’s source.
What?
They found me?
Boy, I am totally screwed!!
You might have missed it Dan, on account of his name wasn’t really Jamil Hussein, and he wasn’t stationed where the AP said he was, and in fact he wasn’t anywhere near many of the stories he reported on.
Hey, it happened. I was there.
I said we all agreed with you. Why re-hash it. You were right
Unless you are with the AP or E&P, nobody cares dude.
That’s not entirely true, B Moe. I wouldn’t mind hearing retractions and apologies from all those leftie sites that vilified righties for discounting AP’s story.
TimmyB:
I’ve been out of action for a few days.
While I was gone, did somebody die and make you Grand Poobah of All Posting Topics? Was there a ceremony with an open bar? Did McGehee get drunk and ralph into the centerpiece again? Was there a crown and a big assed ring and did the denizens line up to pucker up? Did the ‘dillo do a private performance just for you? Did Collins read one of his hopelessly obscure poems in your honor followed by the ceremonial shots of Tequilla and red pills?
How do these things happen without my knowledge? I must not be on the inside … *sniff*
No, I was the one who barfed in the centerpiece, or so I’m told.
As for my poems: are they hopelessly obscure?
Hey! I found a useful site for the AP!
You know I would invite you. It was just a freakin’ suggestion.
I wanted Jeff’s take on Karbala (and possibly how uncritically the MSM reports the “it must have been ol’ Iran”).
The news from Najaf is potentially very good. A plot to kill Sistani and create sectarian carnage not only foiled, but the perpetrators decimated?
I waited all morning to check and, when I do I get more rehashing of old stories (in oblique defense of a discredited Moonie publication, no less). I just expected something different.
Please ignore me and go back to the original post.
BJ, how does one submit a nomination the Grand Poobah role? I think I’d like that job.
Hopefully obscure, be more like it.
Um, that’s not my opinion, ah, no that’s, um, ah TIMMYB’S! Yea, um, he was the one who said it! Just after you heaved on the Day Lilys he said, “… and not only that but his poems are hopelessly obscure!”
You want to know how I know? Huh? Huh?
JAMAIL HUSSEIN TOLD ME!
BWAAAAAAA HAHAHAHAHAHA!!
i feel dizzy…
Hey, there’s nothing wrong with obscurity. I won an OTB caption contest by bei8ng unutterably obscure. You can go ask Rodney Dill.
I hope not. I tried to make clear that I demand accuracy from all “news outlets,” as well as as much transparency as possible regarding sources.
TimmyB
Delusions of grandeur maybe? Rise to the top my son!!!!!!And always on the backs and sweat of others….
Todd, is there any other way? (besides inheriting your money or marrying it and I have failed at both of those).
BJ, you said that was between us! Dan, in my defense I said “obscure, like early Dickinson.” BJ chortled at the term “Dickinson” and misunderstood the rest. That is why, BJ, you weren’t invited to party for Poobah. you always quote me wrong!
I mean, we didn’t have a party for me. Can you imagine a PW party hosted by me? Not only would I not be able to afford the bar bill, an entire night of being verbally treated like a piñata?
My only respite would be to sit next to B Moe. He is a nice and pleasant guy and never gratuitously uses the word “fuck”.
Hell, RTO would bring an Afghan he trained and have the due practice unarmed combat moves on me, while Maggie and he laughed over kabobs!
Yeah, i’m putting the party on hold, before I get treated like those Whole Foods shoppers.
Just so you understand that when I said, “Thanks, Timmy. You idiot.” I was treating you as we an equal.
Dan, I’m tellin’ ya he said obscure like early Henry Rollins! It was then that Pablo hit me on the temple with a Patriots mini-football and I lost consciousness, *sigh* again!
I remember now, Dan. You barfed in the flower arrangement and MeGehee yacked on you.
Timbo; you forgot the lawn darts where we conveniently forget the circle target. “Hey, Timmy! We need your help over here…” That explains the nylon rope and big assed tent stakes…
Timmy has missed the fact that Sadly,No! has a pair of posts up “debunking” Malkin and Preston’s reportage from Iraq.
Making this post timely.
All of the sudden, I having flashbacks to the family reunion in’94, when I said Bill Clinton wasn’t all bad…..Just a powerful sense of deja vu.
After reading your last comment, BJ, I involuntarily screamed “No, Grandma, I didn’t mean it.” My co-workers were a bit shocked.
No, I saw them. I was equally unimpressed. I’m not letting some Greg Allman looking reject tell me what do think.
I will admit he lost me at bullet point #4657 re: the right wing and cheese.
Uh-uh! His shirt looked like that before I got there. Damn paisley.
Tim: We’re not looking for any Poobahs right now, but there’s an opening for a Panjandrum. Of course, the stipend is smaller, so you’d have to work a second job. And you’re not permitted to use a shovel. Frankly, it’s not for everyone, but ask Jeff for an application if you’re still interested.
Tim: The “Greg Allman looking reject” crack should seal the deal for you.
Ahem, let me state for the record that I’m a fan of the Allman Brothers. But, liking their music and wanting to ap the look? Not one in the same. I like BB King too, but I don’t aspire to be 700 pounds!
Come on Timmy… you’ve still got a thing for Cher though right?
OK, that’s enough. Let’s stop this before it gets out of hand…
They “prayed to the sprout display”?
Damned apostates. Broccoli is the one true god. May the sproutists rotate forever on the everlasting shishkabob.
mmmmm, kabob.
