***update: Kerry to speak at 2pm press conference…I expect nothing less than full-throated indignance, condescension, and blame avoidance…great news for the GOP…
That’s what I call must-see TV. Oh, it’s more than just mild. You’re rolling in it now.
Poor Johnny. So misunderstood. I think he needs a little Loven.
And now a word from our brave men and women in uniform:
hanoi john, the gift that keeps on giving. What a fitting end to this month of slime politics. Karl couldn’t have planned it better. I’ve already voted and this just reinforces my belief that no matter how bad the freakin repubs are, the dhimmis are hell bound on destroying this country and turning it into another fwance. Fuck that.
“Dethpicable!”
Adj.: Incapable of being despicted.
“Unforgiveable, that’s what you are,
Unforgiveable, though near or far . . .
That’s why my life’s so unliveable,
That someone so unforgiveable
Thinks that I am unforgiveable, too.”
– Yeh…there yah go… I think we all need a lying sack of shit….a blockheaded dipshit that has such a bad service record he can’t even make it public…this is the sort of nitwit we need giving us a lecture in “supporting the troops”…
– He’s exactly what we all saw during the Pres. election cycle…the worst sort of oppotunistic liar you could dream up…
– Now he just amplify’s that whole truth by lying over his comments yesterday….
He was NOT talking anything about the President….Bullshit…. He was in front of a group of Liberal college students, getting ready to stir up the nest with comments about the high price of education, and he started out by saying point blank…..either get educated or you’ll end up with the dumb ass pukes in Iraq….
– He can try to lie his way out of it all he wants….it just proves what a piece of shit he really is…
– My fervant hope is John fucking Kerry ends up in court with the Swiftboaters, and gets his entire sad ass history exposed for all to see, and that will be the end of his anti-American butt for once and for all. America has had to listen to his bullshit for way too long already.
The redlined hee-larious phrase from his reponse was “If anyone thinks a veteran would criticize the more than 140,000 heroes serving in Iraq and not the president who got us stuck there, they’re crazy,”
Oh, really? How about calling our troops war criminals, rapists and murderers. How about telling the world in 2005 that our troops were terrorising women and children in Iraq? How about calling his fellow Swift Boat Comrades Republican Hacks because they dared to question his leadership capabilities?
Both he and Bush have Master’s degrees so even if he somehow manages to convince people that the crack was about the president, it still reflects his arrogant, elitist style.
Al Gore I can just laugh at. There is not a more pompus, condescending, arrogant, upper class snob in politics today than John Kerry.
– Well all he managed to do with today’s pompus, self-serving outburst is compound the dumb ass mistake. I would imagine that the DNC, and Dean in particular, are going absolutely batshit trying to shut him up.
– Maybe it’s a good thing. Maybe it’s his arrogant way of getting back at the DNC for not showing him support in another bid. From what we’ve heard in the rumor mill, the DNC has been telling him indirectly, he’s not welcome to give it another try. Maybe this sour-grapes lose-cannon will turn out to be Roves surprise.
More stale “dialectic of class-struggle” nonsense from an unreconstructed sixties radical.
Once again, the arrogant, elitist liberal ethos muscles it’s way to the front- these morons can’t help but overreach. The open lust for power, combined with the sneering contempt for the ignorant proles they must inveigle to attain that power, is what betrays them every time.
How’s that Form 180 coming along, Senator?
Damn, for once I got the joke!
The AP headline is “White House Spokesman Slams Kerry Over Remarks”. What a bunch of meanies to pick on him like that.
I would have preferred “Asshat Steps On Crank With Trackshoes Yet Again”, but that’s just me.
I think the word is ‘indignation’.
Come here for the posts, stay for the grammar lessons.
hanoi john, the gift that keeps on giving. What a fitting end to this month of slime politics. Karl couldn’t have planned it better. I’ve already voted and this just reinforces my belief that no matter how bad the freakin repubs are, the dhimmis are hell bound on destroying this country and turning it into another fwance. Fuck that.
Cat’s got Kos’ tongue on this one.
And the space cadets over at DU think Kerry did great. “You tell ‘em, John!” “Where was this in ‘04???” etc. As if royally pissing off the conservative base and energizing them to get to the polls plays right into the Dems’ hands.
The GOP couldn’t buy a godsend like this.
Get me a fork. It looks like this turkey is done!
The thing I like most about John Kerry is, he’s self-basting.
-Steve
Does he have one of those little pop-up thingies stuck into him, too, steve? Good gravy, I love Thanksgiving.
Here’s a little something from Theresa Marsh at HuffPo
Let’s start the spin cycle!!
The Repubs ought to run this in a d 24/7 until the election.
At first I thought Kerry had simply fluffed an oblique crack at Bush, the CIC. But then I remembered that Bush is an Ivy Leaguer, and besides Kerry wouldn’t have misspoke because he’s an experienced pol in addition to being The Smart One.
My sympathies to all decent, hard-working, patriotic upper-class Americans everywhere, for being tarred in association with the august Senator.
Is Kerry up for re-election this time?
Or is the gang that couldn’t shoot straight attacking the wrong target once again?
It should be noted that Kerry’s position makes it clear that inadvertant offense does not rise to the level of requiring an apology (in the Dem’s eyes, if you’re of a deispisable group of course).
Aw, c’mon, Monky–we’re just outing him as a perfect moron.
monkyboy, I’ll give you credit for one thing, a perfectly fitting handle. Kerry said this on the campaign trail for a Dem, and he is claiming his “misquote” was really an attack on President Bush. But you want him declared out of bounds. Smarmy shit-flinging hypocrite, you are.
Or is the gang that couldn’t shoot straight attacking the wrong target once again?
– This from the Idiotarian left that think Bush is running again. Brilliant.
– Monkeyshit – your “Vietnam War hero” may have just slipped it to you, and you were already struggling. Then he decides that was such a good effort, he comes back and does it even harder. Do you ever get tired of being screwed by the mis-guided missle flipflopper?
Updated Kerry biography:
John Kerry was born a dickhead and raised a dickhead. He was a dickhead in elementary and high school and remained a dickhead in college. He was a dickhead while in uniform and when we returned from Vietnam an even bigger dickhead. Kerry was a dickhead as Lt. Governor of Massachusetts and has a distimguished career as a dickhead in the US Senate. He displayed his dickheadedness with aplomb during his presidential campaign. And today he remains a dickhead for all the country to see.
Updated monkyboy biography:
monkyboy was born a dickhead and raised a dickhead…
Coming from the party running against Bush. Who’s not only not up for an election, he can’t run for election ever again!
About J. Effin’ Kerry:
-me
Kerry is one of two presidential candidates from 2004 who isn’t running for anything this year. Which makes it all the more puzzling why the press found it necessary to sneak into his house and record this offhand comment he made to his wife, when they could have been covering a public appearance by one of the many candidates who are running for something this year.
The Force can have a powerfull effect on the weak-minded.
Remind me, what was Kerry’s vote on the Iraq War Resolution?
Amen, Sister.
Is anyone on proteinwisdom going to rise up and make the intentionalist argument?
Sure. His intention was to pander to some students by slandering our troops. Just like last year when he stated they were “terrorizing women and children in Iraq.”
Of which he was one? that makes sense.
Even for a retarded telephone pole, that last comment makes no sense. You don’t actually believe that Kerry’s service gives him a lifetime pass on all things military? Never mind, you probably do.
Doesn’t the intentionalist argument revolve around the meaning of what you did say?
Releasing an after-the-fact explanation of what you would have said if only you’d realized ahead of time how moronic you’d sound isn’t intentionalism, it’s CYA.
And then blaming others for criticizing what you did say rather than understanding you would later revise it and blame them for it? I don’t know what that’s called, but I’m happy with “Kerryism”. Maybe Kerrygasmic.
Seriously. That whole our troops are raping children and cutting off ears thing was meant as a compliment.
That wouldn’t explain the wingnut misunderstanding. Because the ‘dialectic of class-struggle’ line is that the lower classes go into the military in order to work hard for an education. Not because they didn’t work hard and didn’t study.
I know there are things that people want to believe about what kerry said, but they have to make sense. At least the wingnut line is aided by the helpful meme that criticisms of the administration are criticisms of the armed forces. But your line about class struggle here? no help.
I thought it revolved around your intent. Which is more likely? kerry calls bush dumb, or kerry calls the armed forces—which he was a member of, dumb? Seems pretty easy to me.
You know who Kerry reminds me of; Gaius Baltar,
the post 2003 BSG model; the same laboriously
stilted diction, the over-rationalization of
originally stupid comments. That said, this
isn’t new arguments, heard on Bill Maher,
Scareborough,Herr Olbermann, et al.
Here is what actus believes Kerry meant; “Kids stay in school or you will end up running the free world.”
Yep, that’s believable. Good thing Kerry doesn’t have a history of slandering our troops.
Sure, Actus—Kerry was really trying to encourage students by criticizing the schoolwork of President Bush, who got slightly better grades than Kerry did.
That makes sense, right?
Ya. Cuz grades measure how smart you are.
The problem lies in explaining your supposed intent with words that a)you didn’t say and b)something that doesn’t really make sense.
This may shock you, actus, but there are people that think our military is made up of uneducated, optionless, often black, duped-into-serving, too dumb to understand their mission, raping, murdering, abu-gharibing, white phosphorous skin carmelizing, child-like cannon fodder.
There are not many people that believe an Ivy league undergraduate and graduate degree qualify as a poor education. Especially not a bunch of college students that probably applied to the Ivy league and were rejected.
actus: You’re obtuse and tiresome. And a waste of time.
But even the words he says support the idea that it was a joke about bush. Thats the sarcastic punch line.
But does intentionalism ever account for when people mess up delivery?
…and thus we add John Kerry’s launching his career by slandering the troops (continuing recently) and intentionalism to the almost endless list of things about which actus knows nothing.
Of course, if Kerry meant that Bush was uneducated he would be wrong about that, too.
Keep in mind, of course, that Kerry is a left-winger smearing people, so obviously, actus was compelled to slink by for a lame, half-witted attempt to defend it, as he did with Jeff Goldstein’s blog-stalker, GiGi’s fabricated garbage about Rush Limbaugh and underage prostitutes (particularly here), and the outing or phony-outing of a Senator.
How about an unintentionalist argument. As in,
‘I didn’t really mean to say what I just said, so I’ll pause right here to confess that I flubbed a jibe at the Prez, oh and by the way, lest somebody misconstrue the plain english of what I actually stated for what was (instead) intended, let me clarify right here and now, before this thing goes any further, that I did not intend any insult upon those who serve – well o.k. I did, but only the President to be specific, and not any of those uniformed types.’
Nah, why bother clarifying my intention to signify. I’ll just wait for the political shitstorm to erupt, then use my brilliant rhetorical skills to maneuver my way back into the limelight.
TW: Kerry is operating on plan82, because the alphabet only has 26 letters.
*Sigh*, no, Actus—grades have nothing to do with working hard in school, which is what Kerry was talking about.
Of course, that doesn’t surprise me—like most children, your attention span is short. You respond to things one sentence at a time, unable to see how they fit into a larger argument.
Re: the intentionalist argument
I don’t think he intended to make an ass of himself.
He just can’t help it.
I think its clear that he meant he didn’t work hard at being smart, make an effort at education. Not that he was uneducated. Do you think bush works hard at being smart? Or do you think he <A href=”http://img55.photobucket.com/albums/v167/dutchdavis/Bush_blowing_gum.jpg>eschews intellectualism</a>?
I said above I see how this fits in with the ready meade argument that critiques of the president are critiques of the troops. With people without this frame, the sarcasm comes across quite clear. But with this frame, you have to put yourself in Kerry’s shoes—is he joking about the president, or making a rather serious accusation?
Someone on patterico was wondering why the lefties don’t include the rest of the speech. I’m curious too. Allah has some of it. Does he have the rest? I dont post over there. Can someone over there ask him?
actus,
Even assuming that you share Kerry’s views, would it be funny? Would it rise to some kind of coherent critique? Or do you just say baseless shit and then get offended when someone calls you on it? You’re offended at stylistics, but really, is this kind of snarky decerebrate crap what passes for intellectualism? I’ll take Bush’s anti-intellectualism any day.
At the very least, it shows disrespect for the military. You’ll say that it shows disrespect for the President and Commander in Chief, and so the fuck what. But it shows disrespect for American polity per se, and disrespect for the citizens that support it, as well.
The guy’s a jackass. That’s about as kind as I can be.
First note that on the subject of Kerry’s long history smearing the troops, he had no comeback.
And as actus doesn’t like grades (law school went well, did it?), perhaps he prefers standardized tests.
And if actus (btw, thanks for screwing up the page formatting by trying to include a picture, jackass) bothers to read that link, he’ll find a Bush critic who pretty much concludes that Bush makes a great show of not being an intellectual because it wins national elections, whereas pretending to be an intellectual—as Kerry does—wins in his home state.
Of course, the fact that actus equates pseudo-intellectualism with actual intelligence tells everyone here quite a bit about actus.
PS: I could ask Allah, but I’m not in the habit of doing favors for sewer-dwelling, dissembling weasels.
Its a sarcastic joke, of which kerry doesn’t make good ones. It’s a rather simple critique which fits in with the mainstream portrayal of Bush as un-intellectual.
Sure, all jokes about the president do that. Clinton’s wang, Carter’s sweater, Ford’s fumblings, and Sr.’s “juncture” line.
Thats the point: its derision of the president and thus also of those who think he’s done a good job and is being smart about Iraq. I’m quite happy that thats what you take offense at, because it means you at least got it.
He has a history of making serious accusations in serious contexts. Whats his history on jokes?
Show or substance, that’s whats being joked about. The idea is certainly there, you do agree with that. You even think its on purpose.
Kerry accused the troops of committing war crimes as a matter of course. Calling them stupid is a step up from his previous rhetoric.
Man Karl!
That was a bit harsh wasn’t it?
There is no need for that kind of mean-spirited, heartless, and vicious attack.
I mean, what as any weasel done to you?
And what could be more dissembling that context?
I’m sorry. I lost you at the point where Clinton’s wang presumably proved that people in government service were doltish stooges.
Clinton’s wang is referencing jokes about Clinton, there the joke woulndt be that they were dolts, but that his policies are mysoginistic and anti-women. A joke about bush’s un-intellectualness is about his policies being dumb and misguided and getting us stuck.
I see. So, if you made a misogynistic joke, you were saying in effect that Clinton shouldn’t have been getting his dick sucked by a pudgy intern in the Oval Office? It’s all clear to me, now.
No the joke wouldn’t be mysoginistic, but it would be ABOUT clinton’s mysoginism. Say, to show how his welfare laws are going to hurt mothers that receive Aid to Families Dependent Children.
‘Time’, hell, he’s a waste of skin.
Plus he’s stealing precious oxygen my kids need.
actus–
Sorry. Maybe I’m dim, but you’re just going to have to make such a joke to show me how that would work.
Kerry was joking about substance, jackass. Not that you know anything about it.
PS: Dan, you’re not dim—actus is a black hole, trying to suck all intelligence out of the thread, per usual.
BTW, do you think actus has figured out that he gets a hostile reaction because he’s the blog equivalent of someone taking a dump on the dinner plate? Or is he so deluded that he thinks he’s making a point?
Something along the lines of how he’s got some welfare right in his office for them. Or how he’s worried about paying for his dependent children.
Basically connecting his infidelity with policies to show the policies as mysoginistic. Like connecting bush’s un-intellectualism with policies to show the policies as dumb.
Is this something that’s hard to figure out? You see the analogy I’ve made? You want it in SAT form?
I’m sure to Kerry, and his audience, there is subtance to the idea that dubya is un-intellectual.
So, something like, “Your education is very important, because unless you have the vision it brings, you may end up on your knees blowing Clinton while he talks on the phone, like the US Navy?”
Which is why he lost. That, and a career of slandering our troops.
MISUNDERESTIMATING YOUR OPPONENT IS BAD STRATEGERY!!!
Let’s see, if you don’t study you might wind up with and MBA from Harvard, learn to fly fighter jets, own a professional baseball team and get elected President of the United States?
I think you’re missing the analogy. Lets try it in SAT form. Do you remember that?
Clintons wang: mysoginistic policies :: Dubyas un-intellectualism : dumb policies.
Do you see it now? You see how you’re mixing it? Education and clinton’s wang don’t quite work, because those are on the different sides of the analogy.
Oh yeah, bush has quite <a=href=”http://bushsbrain.com/”>a brain</a>. And Kerry’s was quite the idiot. No doubt about that.
Oh, I see. So, you may end up a social worker helping single moms wrest child support from deadbeat dads because Clinton couldn’t keep his dick in his pants.
It’s all so clear. What could be more intellectual than 17 violated UN resolutions?
Of which he was one? that makes sense.
“Absolute moral authority.”
Ever heard that one? C’mon, actus, you’re a liberal—isn’t intellectually lazy, “shut up argument,” ad hominem identity politics second nature to you?
I think you have to admit there’s a thread of leftist discourse that has focused on the soldier-as-stooge, duped or coerced or forced by circumstances to enter the military. The wily recruiter meme, for example, is closely tied to this. Moore and Sheehan, just for starters? Any of this ringing a bell?
Not to put it indelicately, but as my old man would have said, Kerry shit the bed, and now he’s trying to kick it out.
Not quite. where’s the mysoginism? you’re still confusing the two sides of the analogy—taking clinton’s wang and education and where you end up. But its “clinton’s wang is to mysoginistic policies as bush’s unintellectualism is to dumb policies.”
Didn’t you have to do SAT analogies?
It’s obvious that Kerry was not joking – he was speaking to a room full of students and he let slip the old liberal slander of “the back door draft” to scare them. How could he mock Bush’s education when it is the same as his own (only with better grades). Study hard or you will become the President of the United States? Give me a fucking break Actus.
Like a spoiled child, he refuses to apologise when caught out and just digs in his heels and throws a tantrum. And you just can’t resist defending him.
What a pair of insufferable, pompus assholes.
Right, the leftists discourse is of the soldier who’s going to the military to work hard and get funding for his education because other opportunities are scarce due to his class status. That doesn’t fit in with Kerry’s line. A lazy person un-interested in education wouldn’t join the military according to that leftists line.
It’s misogyny, not misogynism, or even misogynecologicalism.
Did Clinton’s wang cause misogyny that made other people fools by association? Go on, I’m still not grokking you.
Or was that, you know, a private matter that had no real ramifications in the public sphere, so that analogy is inapt?
Or did Bush make a career out of claiming that Democrat politicians are all misogynistic wang-flippers, and that it’s a good thing we’re not misogynistic like them?
Writes the man who has now blown two tags in this thread. Irght on!
IT’S ALL A ROVIAN PLOT!!! RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!!!
There is also the tiny detail that Kerry voted to “stick” the troops in Iraq. before he voted against funding them… and then voted for it again.
Why are other people being made fools? You’re still mixing it up: Clintons wang is used to criticise clintons policies (and supporters) as mysoginistic. NOT as foolish. Thats one side of the analogy. The other is bush’s lack of interest in smartness being used to criticise his policies (and supporters) as foolish.
Are you now close to getting it? Just because one joke about a president (bush) is used to make his policies dumb doesn’t mean jokes about another president (clinton) are to make those policies dumb. So a joke about clinton being bad to women is to show his policies as mysoginistic, while one about bush being bad about smartness is to show his policies as dumb.
You see how there are 4 elements to the analogy? Try to think about those.
Actus, let’s try this again.
You are held in contempt here because, basically, you confuse conditioned reflexes with thought.
For example, you are somehow convinced that any time someone mentions that Bush got better grades in school than Kerry, that the proper response is to sneer that grades have nothing to do with intelligence. Even when that retort is an utter non sequiter.
You cannot understand thought or argument, because you are incapable of it.
IT’S ALL A ROVIAN PLOT! HE HAD THAT VIDEO OF KERRY EDITED! ROVE PUT ON HIS CLOAK OF INVISIBILITY AND JAMMED KERRY’S FOOT INTO HIS MOUTH! AND THEN HE SHOT THE FOOT, AND STUCK THE GUN IN KERRY’S HAND!
Its because Kerry is joking about Bush’s apparent un-intellectualness. How do you think the two compare in that field? Obviously their relative grades don’t have much to do with it. Its a joke about Bush’s language errors, about his persona—crafter or not—of un-intellectualism. One which a moron on a blog could crack, Ivy League educated skull-and-bones blue-blood child-of-privilege or not.
Can you help me explain SAT-style analogies to Dan then?
So Kerry was saying to work hard in school because that will make you smarter? Smarter in a way that isn’t reflected in school grades?
Damn, but you’re stupid.
Why are y’all arguing with somebody who is obviously not the sharpest hammer in the box of rocks?
So, go to Sunday School. Otherwise, you may end up fellating the leader of the free world. BECAUSE OF THE MISOGYNY!
Could be. I just finished law school. There was the hard work that made you smart, and know lots about the law, and there was the hard work that prepared you for the 3 hour test that was your whole grade. What Kerry said was to make the most of education, to make the most of being smart. I don’t think he mentioned grades at all. I do think he mentioned being smart.
Sure thing, Mr. Telephone Pole – I’ve received naught but love, understanding, respect and support from the Left in my 22 years as a member of the Armed Forces…
The constant theme from the Left is that soldiers are; dupes, too dumb to get real work, jingoistic peckerwood crackers, etc., etc., ad nauseum.
Pray, quote me the folks on the Left who assert that the Soldier is naught but a hard working, self improver.
Clearly, Kerry was saying that if you don’t study and work hard, you turn out as the kind of slack-jawed moron who votes to send troops to Iraq, loses to Bush, and wants you to think he mangled his own joke in a way that coincidenatlly matches his career of smearing the troops. And to an audience of slack-jawed morons, it makes sense.
PS: McGehee, because we can’t resist a true masochist.
McGehee–
Don’t worry about me. I’m typing this while I whip my elder son’s ass at Halo.
With my toes.
– Dan…. don’t bother… the bullshit “deflection” meter is screaming off the scales…
– I just watched Cholms spend an entire hour explaining that Kerry didn’t really say what we all heard him say. When you’re so fucking desperate you are trapped in a corner of your own making, and you lack even the tiny bit of character just to suck it up and say you mis-spoke and you apologize, when your side is peopled floor to ceiling with synchophantic ass-kissers that will say anything, bear any amount of properly earned ridecule, whats the point.
– You and I will never live long enough to hear an honest admission from the Party of the G_dless.
– The worst of it is, that arrogant psuedo-intellectual Kerry, really thinks that way. He’s been showing that, and saying that since VietNam.
– For his idiot sisters on the left to try to defend him now, in the face of such obvious class bigotry, is exactly the core reason they’re where they are politically. Fuck it, and fuck them. the best way to kick the batshit crazy Left in the ass, is to get out on the 7th, and kick them and their anti-American bullshit to the curb.
Dan, which are you doing with your toes? Beating your son at Halo with your toes would be impressive.
Karl–
No, it’s the commenting I’m doing with my toes. Because they’re further from my brain.
Why is actus arguing about the definitions of analogies?
Kerry said the troops are stooooooooooooopid because they are lazy, stoooooooooooooooopid, didn’t study in high school and so could not get into college and ended up in Iraq because they are stoooooooooooooopid.
actus is doing what Andy Sullivan and liberals always do when the facts interfere with logic: change the context of argument. That is why definitions are so important to libs: without them, conclusions are impossible. Then even science can be politicized since truth becomes subjective.
What assholes they are, liberals.
Anyone who brings out the argument that for some the soldier’s life is the only way to pay for college, or to get out of the slums. You never heard that one? There are a lot of myths out there about life in the military. But that it’s easy? That one I haven’t heard. I’ve heard it bemoaned as a tough break, not a free ride.
But I have heard of Colin Powell bemoaning some privileged people getting assignments in the national guard. Maybe that was an easier life than the rest of military life, and thats why he was bemoaning it. But I’ve heard that our expectations from reserve and guard units have changed over the last decade or so, so that criticism might not carry water anymore.
Actus still believes that since mommy and daddy told him what a clever little boy he was, it’s so. In the long run, it’s best if he understands he isn’t.
– In all likelyhood, actus left his brain in the womb, and hasn’t been anywhere near it since.
Actus,
You’re wrong- as seems to be the norm.
Just what have the “wingnuts” misunderstood? Aside from displaying more of the disdain that so endears you and your heroes to the electorate at large, you fail to say anything at all.
What Kerry clearly meant to do was to insinuate that only the less-educated are compelled by necessity to enlist. After the whooping he took last election, he’s not saying a word that isn’t carefully scripted. He’s to the point where he’s making “Fat Albert” Gore look dynamic and animated.
You know that’s what he meant, so spare us your patent and transparent dishonesty, if indeed you are able. It was another oddly inappropriate appeal (and another use of a tired and disproven meme regarding the makeup of the military and the casualties suffered thus far) to class-envy by a multi-millionaire. You seethe with comtempt for our troops as well, so it is particularly disingenuous for you to attempt the argument you’re making (poorly) here.
It’s exactly the same as misrepresenting the tax-cuts as catering to the “rich” (which is anyone with more money than the liberal who happens to be making the argument), except it also manages to cast aspersion upon those serving in the armed forces.
When are you tools going to learn that sowing enmity and division, married to seething contempt and scorn for those who don’t share your beliefs is no way to attain the power you so nakedly covet?
Sheesh- talk about dumb.
I still want to see that well-knit gibe about Clinton’s wang and misogyny that’s congruent to Kerry’s “intended” bon mot. And I’m not just saying that to be a prick.
actus, I want offer my sincerest thanks.
I’m sitting here, with my mail-in ballot opened up, pencil ready to scribble in the right places, and you’ve reminded me why I’m voting Republican this year. Again.
Please note that I said “reminded”, not “motivated”. Kerry and his ilk did that, right enough. You are merely the Post It Noteâ„¢ to their roll of Charmin™.
No pun intended.
No pun intended, Dan.
He who lives by the aspersion shall perish by the aspersion.
yours/
peter.
– What every Republican, Independent, and Democratic Veteran needs to take from all of this is, that while we may be severely pissed at Bush and the admin for things like Border security, and a tendency to react slowly to changes on the ground in Iraq, the alternative would be a little shop of horrors that we might never recover from.
– Maybe an elephant isn’t the greatest choice when you’re fording the dangerous rapids of an insane cult group that wants to annihilate you, but switching to a jackass will just get you drowned before you even get halfway across.
– For me the choices are lousy and disaster. Pretty much a no-brainer, and there’s always a chance we can goad the Reps into more effective action. You can’t goad people that have their heads up their ass’s, and refuse to recognize reality.
No dice, actus. Oh, I’ll admit you’re a fuckin’ genius when it comes to subtly diverting the discussion into irrelevancy and non sequitur, then dissing people for it, but in this case you’re defending the indefensible. Being [ATTENTION! ATTENTION! ANALOGY FOLLOWS! NOT TO BE TAKEN LITERALLY! FIGURE OF SPEECH ALERT!] Pol Pot’s bodyguard is not an honorable profession.
The reason us “wingnuts” glommed on to this so quickly is simply that the remark as it was actually made follows naturally from what has gone before. John Kerry has made his entire political career out of dissing, insulting, and demonizing the military. He uses his own service as a Stylite uses his hairshirt—the necessary suffering to attain Holiness—and is as publicly cynical about it as a pimp buying group health insurance. His message is that soldiers are ignorant, violent abusers of the privilege of humanity, and his own participation in the vileness would be inexcusable except that he has noticed and apologized. Except that he hasn’t, of course—he has only, in true Leftist style, expressed his sorrow that anybody else should take it so personally as to be offended, “if the shoe fits” expressed in polysyllabic Leftspeak.
And even if we take it as a given that what he intended to do was diss Bush, the oratory he used makes it worse, if possible. George W. Bush is a member, by voluntary adoption, of a subculture of Americans that does not admire academic pontification. You may describe it as “anti-intellectual” if you’re too simpleminded to appreciate what’s really going on, because part of it is find ways to express complex ideas in simple vocabulary (rather than the converse, which is the academic ideal). The whole point of Gomer Pyle, and of No Time for Sergeants before it, is that Gomer and Private Bass are not stupid—quite the contrary, in fact, and both Nabors and Griffith are almost scarily bright. Taking the surface seriously, as evidence of stupidity, is itself evidence of lack of intellect, not to mention hostility and bigotry.
Some are born dickheads, others have dickheadedness thrust upon them. John Kerry has voluntarily embraced dickheadedness as an ideal informing his entire way of life, and the fact that you and other proggs find him admirable is a disgusting lapse.

Dude craps his own tarbabies to get tangled up in. Here’s part of his official response to the criticism:
However, someone who served rather longer in Viet Nam, John McCain, said:
“Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education,†Mr. McCain said.
Mr. McCain said any suggestion that only the poorly educated would agree to serve in Iraq is “an insult to every soldier serving in combat.â€Â
In response to Kerry’s defense, that he was criticizing Bush and not the troops, McCain said this:
This is from Patterico. actus read the above. You can’t make it up, because Kerry is less verisimilar than fiction. You can only deny that he meant what he said, if you are a Kerry apologist, or deny that you meant what you meant, if you are Kerry.
