What happens if the Dems win in November? [ahem]

In response to McGehee’s earlier thread, I’d like to try to figure out exactly how bad it will get. Frankly, I think a Dem win in the mid-terms will cement a Republican presidency in 2008, but will it really?

In addition to the promised attempt at impeachment, and the utterly stupid screwing up of a great economy, we can also expect:

1. A precipitate withdrawal from Iraq as Bush loses complete support

2. Increased attacks around the world from Muslim extremists as they realize the US is a broken force

3. Increased American dhimmitude, and an attempt to shape our laws and take advantage of the spinelessness of the left

4. Increased EU dhimmitude as the Europeans realize no one’s coming to help them

5. A reduction in the number of volunteers for the military and general lowering of military morale

Your turn.

  1. monkyboy says:

From 1933 to 2000, the Democrats controlled the presidency or at least one house of Congress…

    And America did pretty good.

Don’t worry, it won’t be so bad…you might even want to try voting for a few of them.

    I did…kinda tasted like chicken.

  2. syn says:

I very much agree with all the points you made except for one; Bush is a man of his word which means he will never withdraw from Iraq while he is President even if the only supporters remaining are Barney, Laura and me.

I will add that the Democrat run Congress will waste all their time trying to impeach Bush.

  3. syn says:

Man monkyboy were you ever living in a utopia bubble during 1993-2000.

Can you provide the number of attacks against America and her interests during 1993-2000 and compare that number to the number of attacks against America and her interests which occurred between 2000-2006?

  4. goddessoftheclassroom says:

    syn

I agree with your point.  Should America or her interests be attacked after the Dems take control of the House and thwart the President’s plans, they will be out again in 08.

But that’s such a high price to pay.

  5. lee says:

    Monkeyboy,

The Democratic party of the 21st century no longer resembles the Democratic party of the 20th.

  6. Big Bang hunter says:

    – Dino’s, certainly not Jefferson Democrats, and in no way classic Liberals. FDR, Truman, and Kennedy must be spinning in their graves, watching the Marxicrats fuck up theur traditions.

  7. Big Bang hunter says:

    “I did…kinda tasted like chicken.”

    – Truer words were never spoken by a progg.

  8. Karl Armstrong says:

Don’t make the mistake of thinking that the (elected) Democrats opposition to the war is in any way principled. My guess is that once they are in charge of the house, we will gradually start hearing a lot more of the ‘good’ stories from Iraq. If they win the presidency in ‘08 they will probably ‘save’ Iraq (after all the heavy lifting has been done of course).

  9. RiverCocytus says:

I’ll keep voting republican (can I?) from my VISA’d location.

When I get back, everything better be cleaned up!

    – These day, in the words of Cunfucious, “interesting times”, not a day goes by without one or more major events. I don’t think even Cloe or the great Karnak could devine things political in the near future, much less down the road. I’m not jumping on the bandwagon with all the Rep doom and glum Pols just yet.

    – Things that go politically bump in the night:

    – Any and all future moves by the NK.

    – Any and all moves by Iran.

    – The growing mess in Palistine.

    – Iraq’a response to Bush/Condi warning’s.

    – More adventures by al Qaeda, and their open support for the American Left.

    – Rove.

    – A very slim lead in the house will probably just amplify the sole “we’re not Bush” tools in the otherwise empty Liberal idea’s wagon. It will also underline the total obstrutionist/idiotarian agenda of the Dem’s, both actions that could actually make their feckless anti-American positions crystal clear leading up to ‘08.

    – I don’t share the Left’s distain for the “intelligence” of the electorate, nor do I think they can hide from their lack of alternatives for 2+ more years. They’ve been able to hide their deep split within the party on Iraq, hanging on the empty ploy of morphing a natural human distaste for any war, into a “agaisnt the Iraq war”, but they can only get so much millage out of that.

    – When they have to break their silence, and actually debate the issues, putting forth real alternatives, as they will in a national campaign, it will all come home to haunt them. I’m looking forward to those debates. I doubt Hillery is.

In addition to the promised attempt at impeachment, and the utterly stupid screwing up of a great economy, we can also expect:

I think we’ll get a lot of oversight. Not so much impeachment. Some of it of the grandstanding variety. But mostly just more committee chairs figuring out what it is that agencies are doing. Typical separation of powers type stuff.

  13. Tink says:

I know what the Dem control did to the military.

Morale, structure, supply, pay, benefits, housing. It all took a hit.

    We lived it.

All of a sudden during the last few years the Dems give a damn about the military.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight..Where the hell were they in the 90’s?

Sorry if I remain skeptical of the Dems new found love for the miitary.

There are probably more things Republican that I disagree with, than things I agree with..but at least they usually treat the military with some respect.

Those people serving in Iraq and Afghanistan aren’t just my husband, or Maggie’s husband, or Major John. They’re your cousin, or your brother, your neighbor, your son or daughter..

Those of you who have talked about the security of this country for the last few years, how it’s the most important thing..I suggest you think long and hard before placing your vote or staying home on November 7.

If that was YOU over there, who would you want in control?

  14. actus says:

Can you provide the number of attacks against America and her interests during 1993-2000 and compare that number to the number of attacks against America and her interests which occurred between 2000-2006?

There’s almost 6 thousand dead, and many more wounded, from 911 and Iraq. Is this the sort of numbers game you want to play?

My guess is that once they are in charge of the house, we will gradually start hearing a lot more of the ‘good’ stories from Iraq. If they win the presidency in ‘08 they will probably ‘save’ Iraq (after all the heavy lifting has been done of course).

I wouldn’t be surprised if a democrat president went ahead and increased the number of troops in Iraq. But the stories? Thats what you’re worried about? that’s not goign to change whats goin on there.

  17. adamthemad says:

We could probably lift a few predictions from the events of the Carter (dis)administration.

    1. Economy – I know you mentioned it, but bears at least a few more words. Taxes, as promised by Ranglebear, up. Economy in the shitter.

    2. Global Warming Zealotry – Expect to see globullshit warming legislation. See economy and repeat.

    3. Revenge of the Entitlement Dynasty – A fresh round of welfare, living wage, national insurance socialism. Again, see economy.

    4. Border – what border? Yee-haa! Ariba ariba! Aiyiyiyi! Ulhululululu!

  18. Big Bang hunter says:

“…that’s not goign to change whats goin on there.”

    – True. but neither is cut and run, or redeployment, or any of the empty idea’s, few as they are, you hear coming from the confused Left.

    – More troops might help, say at least double, to secure places permanently that we clean out, only to have the cockroaches return. If we left the country, the cockroaches would overrun the place.

    – But the truth is unless the Iraq Shia’ use their strength in numbers, and actually take the initiative, there’s nothing on the globe we can do to make them. Maybe the Bush/Condi warning will have an effect.

    – One thing is sure. the Left’s constant intentional interference, and little disguised pro-terrorist yammering isn’t helping. “Hey hey, Proggs in the way….How many Americans did your words kill today”.

  19. Great Mencken's Ghost! says:

The Democratic party of the 21st century no longer resembles the Democratic party of the 20th.

Well, except for the Jew-baiting in Virginia, the Race-Baiting in Maryland, the Gay-Baiting in Congress…

  20. TheGeezer says:

The most fascinating thing about Dem conrol of the House: the 2008 election.  With KOS ‘n Kidz in control of the party, we will suffer much that will damage the economy and national security, but it will seal the fate of the 21st Century Dems.

    Finally.

But they will not win the House or the Senate.

The heavily Dem-weighted polls of the past week (with the possible exception of Rasmussen) are not reliable predictors and three weeks is still a political eternity.

The anti-gay hypocrisy of the Dems (WIRETAP GAYS TO PREVENT ABUSE OF TEENS!) will finally piss off the Republican base, which will turn out in fear, if nothing else.

  21. George S. "Butch" Patton (Mrs.) says:

Tink—hey, be fair.  The Dems in the 90’s wouldn’t give the Army ammo to train with, a living wage for the enlisted men, or decent material support when they were deployed… but they gave them all cool black berets!

  22. man, I LOVE the beret! it’s so much easier to make fun of.  cleaning up the fuzz after rto cleans and shaves it? not so fun.

  23. Scrapiron says:

Not much will happen for two years. The only plan the democ’rat party have is to obstruct and obstruct some more, investigate and investigate some more, Make an ass of themselves and make an ass of themselves some more. Now all hell will break loose if they win in 08. The economy will fail, again (they won’t be able to hide it again with phony bookkeepers and two sets of books and selling billions of dollars worth of military equipment), Thousands of Americans will die around the world and nothing will be done about it. They’ll bury their head in the sand because it wasn’t them, so what the he** do they care. Like the 90’a America will be the comic line for the world. So other than killing the stock market (who would trust them after the last time), raising taxes on the working class 25% +, putting another 25 cent tax on gas, taking away your car and forcing you to ride a cracker box with a battery in it, allowing politicians to rape and plunder with no penelty. Not much else will happen unless Cuba invades and takes half the country in 30 days. Then they’ll (democ’rats) will withdraw to north of the mason dixon line and let them have that. Mexico can walk in with BB guns and take Tx, NM, Az and Ca. Not a harsh word will be spoken to the poor old mexicans.

Other than that I don’t expect much to happen, unless Slick is the one under the desk this time and the president is a male.

  25. jdm says:

I’d really like to play along with the gloom and doom because I have so little regard for the Democrats. That I dislike the Democrats so much has less to do with their disgusting proggs and more to do with their unprincipled desire for power. And their culpable buddies in the media.

I think Karl Armstrong hit the nail on the head. This economy, the “war”, the homeless (h/t Mark Helperin), the Children!… things that are So Bad now will suddenly be strangely better.

This is not to say that I don’t fear Bad Things. For example, an Iraqi or even an Afghani bloodbath (as in SE Asia on 1975) if the Democrats think it is politically expedient to “just leave”. Or higher taxes. Or an impeachment circus.

  26. actus says:

I know what the Dem control did to the military.

    Do you now?

Morale, structure, supply, pay, benefits, housing. It all took a hit.

A lie. Morale in the 1990’s military was fine. Iknow, I was there. The military was motivated, well trained, ready for anything. Recruiting and retainment goals were met every year. Look it up.

The US military recieved pay raises in every year of the Clinton Presidency. From 1999-2001 we received the largest raises in 20 years.

the Military health care program was completely overhauled in the 1990’s. Miltary hsopitals were upgraded. Military housing was greatly improved. I can attest to all this because I live in the largest military community in the US. All over Hampton Roads VA we have upgraded housing, bigger clinics, better military exchanges and a almost brand spanking new Naval Hospital. All signed into existence by President Clinton.

All of a sudden during the last few years the Dems give a damn about the military.

they always have. They do now. And they will in the future.

Riiiiiiiiiiiight..Where the hell were they in the 90’s?

No the question is, where were you?

Where’s the anger for the latest Bush military budget that calls for a measly 2.2% pay raise in a time of war?

This great military that we have today is Bill CLinton’s military. All these Senior NCO’s and midlevel officers are CLinton Era guys. All these great precision weapons that we are using are CLinton era weapons systems. its the truth.

  30. monkyboy says:

I sure quite a few of your smarter neighbors will be voting for the Democrats, too, tbl.

The ones smart enough to know we, or our kids, will have to pay back all the money the Republicans have been borrowing one day.

  31. Big Bang hunter says:

    – Sure monkeyface. We’re “borrowing” it just for the hell of it, because everybody knows there was no 9/11. monkeyboy is a good tag for you. Like actus, all you do is sling shit.

  32. actus says:

    – True. but neither is cut and run, or redeployment, or any of the empty idea’s, few as they are, you hear coming from the confused Left.

I agree completely here. They still have no concrete plan except to bash the GOP and I don’t think that will play well in ‘08.

  34. Big Bang hunter says:

    – If your progg cult is successful enough in it’s campaign to help the Jihadists, maybe they’ll be successfull that much sooner and hit your location. In which case you probably won’t need any medicare coverage.

Last Update: 12:56 PM ET Oct 6, 2006

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch)—The federal government probably ran a deficit of about $250 billion in fiscal year 2006, which ended Sept. 30, the Congressional Budget Office estimated Friday. That’s about $10 billion less than the CBO forecast earlier this summer and about $68 billion less than the $318 billion deficit recorded in fiscal 2005. Corporate tax receipts have continued to come in ahead of expectations, CBO said. The Treasury Department will release the official budget figures next week. End of Story

  36. actus says:

I agree completely here. They still have no concrete plan except to bash the GOP and I don’t think that will play well in ‘08.

So voting for the dems mean’s well get the same thing as the GOP except with more subpoena and oversight goodness? Can’t go wrong with that.

  37. monkyboy says:

    Don’t kid yourself, BBh,

We’re borrowing all this money to pay for Red State welfare programs like farm subsidies and military spending.

If it wasn’t the Muslims, it would be the Chinese or the Hispanics.

Anything to hide the fact that “real” Americans have turned into a bunch of welfare queens…

  38. ahem says:

I’m concerned that the pressure to quit Iraq is growing exponentially. I don’t love being there, but we’ve got to end it correctly or inflict a possibly fatal blow to ourselves. What’s the effect of the new Baker report? And what’s with the sudden reluctance of the Brits? Also, NATO is ‘deploying’ NATO troops in Northern Afghanistan that consist of–surprise–nothing but American troops: it’s called sleight-of-hand. Not one of our so-called NATO partners is willing to help us. Bush is under tremendous pressure, and I feel something will snap.

Monky: The budget deficit has already been halved, way ahead of schedule. It probably didn’t appear in your local paper. Bush tried bribing the New York Times to cover the story, but they can’t touch it because it isn’t a state secret. I understand it’s been mentioned once or twice on the internet over the last week. Try a Google search fast before it disappears forever. Also, the Democrats are awarding 20 bucks to anyone who can figure out how Hillary can take credit for it in 2008. Go to dnc.org and try your luck.

  39. lunarpuff says:

I don’t like what’s going on in Iraq right now, either, but I agree it needs to be ended correctly. We need to leave when it’s in better shape than before.

I’m not sure the Brits are suddenly reluctant. The military official who was quoted as saying they should begin pulling out is saying he was misquoted and he doesn’t believe the pull out should happen for years.

  40. actus says:

Monky: The budget deficit has already been halved, way ahead of schedule.

    Whose schedule?

  41. ahem says:

Lunar: Two things: One, General Dannatt in the UK is alarmed at the Islamist progress in his country and wants to return home to stop it. I understand his urgency, but I think that Islamism is better repelled by fighting Al Qaeda to a standstill in Afghanistan and Iraq. We’re almost there. But, be that as it may.

The second thing is that a sensible blog like EU Referendum takes for granted that the Brits want to leave Iraq. Look over the articles published in the last few days. It reveals an alarming lack of will. I’m no longer sure we can count on the Brits. Do you realize that emigration from the UK is greater than it’s been since WWI? Brits are abandoning ship.

actus: Bush’s own projections. I’m not doing the research for you. Look it up yourself. His own goals.

  42. Big Bang hunter says:

    “Whose schedule?”

    – Your sides schedule actup. The loud and screeching announcements your leaders like Pelosi, and Reid made at every news comfrence they could appear at. Don’t you just hate video records. Really fucks the revisionist approach to hell. Takes all the fun out of deliberate lies, doesn’t it though.

    – Hillery’s team is still trying to figure out how to change her vote on the war, and all the speeches her and LurchKerry made about Saddam’s WMD’s, and his “imminent threat” if we didn’t do something to take him down. Maybe you can buy them all up from FOX. Worth a try.

  43. McGehee says:

    Whose schedule?

Sometimes I really suspect Actass lives in a cave somewhere, and all he knows about the outside world is what commenters here and at Patterico tell him.

  44. lunarpuff says:

Good point, ahem. I can see why he’s alarmed by happenings on the homefront.

But I agree the ME is the place to win first. At the very least, Islamism needs to stop being exported. No doubt, that’s years away. But without a doubt, a win in the ME is the first step.

  45. lee says:

welfare programs like farm subsidies and military spending.

The military is a welfare program?

    Huh.

    I did not know that…

  46. ahem says:

I’d say one way to push back the forces of Islamism would be to stand fast and not allow one’s self to be defeated. Dannatt seems not to agree. I think his course of action will produce the exact opposite of what he wishes to accomplish. Time will tell.

  47. lee says:

    OH, and monkeyboy,

comments like that do nothing to convince me of your earlier pronouncment that until two years ago, you were a accross the board republican.

You, asshole, are a fucking liar.

  48. lunarpuff says:

Holycrap! I didn’t know that either.

Is this money being diverted from unwed teenage crack addict retired mothers who are just trying to save the gay whales?

  49. tink says:

A lie. Morale in the 1990’s military was fine. Iknow, I was there. The military was motivated, well trained, ready for anything. Recruiting and retainment goals were met every year. Look it up.

I don’t have to “look it up”..I lived it from 1985 and I live it now.

Those “record level raises” still left us 30% BEHIND the national average. ..and they aren’t record level anymore, now are they?

All these Senior NCO’s and midlevel officers are CLinton Era guys.

    Really?

I’ll be sure and pass that along – I think a few of the guys might be a bit surprised

I know what morale did from the 80’s to the 90’s. I saw good men with 12-14-16 years walk away from something they had planned to do for life because their equipment was shit and they had a tough time supporting their families. I’ve seen many return after 2000. Why would that be?

I have no great love for any politician, but I know damn well who has taken care of us and who hasn’t.

So you go ahead and call me a liar if it makes you happy, but I know damn well what I lived.

The military we have now is in spite of Clinton, not because of him.

  50. lee says:

Recruiting and retainment goals were met every year.

    Hey tink,

any idea what those goals were in the 90’s?

I’m not military, but I seem to recall that the size of the military was significanty reduced, and many bases were closed.

It’s quite easy to meet low expectations.

    Just wondering…

  51. ahem says:

A friend of mine was a Navy SEAL commander. He walked away a few years ago. I think cowardice and dissimulation in the government tends to drive good people away from the military. Especially now, when they risk being criminally prosecuted for just doing their jobs.

The Left thinks it’s a hoot to grind the Right about the so-called mistakes of the military. They don’t realize they’ll need the military one day themselves. But by that time, it won’t be there to help them. It will have abandoned them.

  52. Big Bang hunter says:

    – I think the truth is simpler than that ahem.

    – On monday they call for coalition talks, Bush is “the cowboy, going it alone”.

    – On Wenesday they want “one on one” talks, because Bush refuse’s to talk directly.

    – On friday they’re back to the coalition approach.

    – They think one on one might sell, because as we all know it wotked so well for Clinton. Little Kim simply took Clinton’s handouts, laughing behind the backs of Clinton and his adminsitration, and going right on with what he was doing, lying about every promise he ever made, and Clinton just kept on giving, with no assurances, no transparency, but the solid idea that talking works.

    – One day they feel Bush is to involved in nation building, and should reject aggressive actions in favor of negotiation.

    – The next they scream Bush needs to take hard action, here rather than there, or there rather than here.

    – Whereever Bush is at, he should be someplace else, doing whatever else is different that what he’s doing, even if hes doing what they screeched for a week earlier.

    – They have absolutely no idea what to do about the WOT, IRAN, IRAQ, or N. Korea, other than pretend running away will fix it, or that it just doesn’t exist at all.

    – They sit there and argue fecklessly, railing against an economy thats at an all-time record level in terms of tax revenues, commerce, unemployment, and entitlements, harangueing about anything they can find to badmouth the administration.

    – What we see is a party with no substance, power deprived, at war with themselves, looking for a platform, playing on the “we’re not Bush” troupe, since they have nothing else. Nothing.

    – But we’re the bigger fools in it all, if we let that be a winning strategy. Even worse, who knows how badly we’ll be hurt if our enemies see we’re a broken wall, allowing a small, vociferous gaggle of anti-American Socialists, who hate our values, to carry the day.

  53. lee says:

Just a wild guess, but I bet deusEX and monkeyboy were among those screaming that the evil bushhitler sent in the military with unarmoured hummvees, meager supplies, poor body armour, short manpower, etc.

Prompting Rummy to qoute his now famous line, “you go to war with the military you have…”

  54. monkyboy says:

Government spending is government spending, lee.

It’s welfare whether you wear a uniform or a maternity dress to pick up your government check.

Did we really need to increase the defense budget from $286 billion a year to over $450 billion a year just because America was attacked by 19 guys armed with box cutters?

As far as $290 billion a year being a “reduction” in the deficit, check back at the bottom of the business cycle and see where it is…

  55. lunarpuff says:

just because America was attacked by 19 guys armed with box cutters?

    Just because? JUST BECAUSE?

Do you realize you actually posted that?

  56. TmjUtah says:

“<i>Hillery’s team is still trying to figure out how to change her vote on the war, and all the speeches her and LurchKerry made about Saddam’s WMD’s, and his “imminent threat” if we didn’t do something to take him down.<i>”

BBH, respectfully disagree, but only on propaganda grounds.

Hillary knows her vote for the war was absolutely necessary to have any electability in a national election.

Her problem is that the nutroots (with a huge assist from Howlin’ Howie and the DNC’s New, Improved, King Making Primary Schedule) control the primaries.

Her base is Truthers, American Hezbollah, and Mother Sheehan.

Kind of a sticky problem. Thank goodness.

BTW, I will second or third the notion that Dem majorities aren’t likely to happen.  I’ve watched elections closely since 1998 and by putting the actual election results against end-game polling prediction, I believe that the polling always skewed Dem by at least five or six points. The result has been lots of opportunities for the talking heads and columnists to “explore the unexpected Republican successes” immediately after the election.

There are not many races where contested Reps are facing more than a five percent deficit in their local polls.

A lot of people justifiably have problems with the conduct of the war.  A smaller number of that group may actually have well-thought out modifications or alterations to strategy, tactics, or goals.

But our minority party doesn’t even recognise the threat; what influence they do bring to the debate is predicated on political calculation and nothing else.

It’s called “a losing strategy”.  My highest hope for 2008 is that the Dems come close enough to force the Republicans to get rid of Frist and Hastert, then return back onto some platform resembling the Contract, and get serious about making tax reform, illegal immigration, social security, and federal judicial appointments happen. The Dems who are not outright socialist might manage to get at least part of their party back – but I don’t see any real hope of that until after the Clintonistas finally accept that Senator is the highest office Ms. Hillary will ever darken.

Yup, despite record budget cuts and force reduction. It’s easy to meet recruiting goals when they get cut in half by force reduction. Remember the “peace dividend?” That was taken right out of the military. We went from 16 Divisions to 8. I was there too. We are now paying the price for Clintoon spending the “peace dividend” on the agreed framework giving NK the bomb by having to deploy every other year to Iraq. Yay for Clintoon!

The US military recieved pay raises in every year of the Clinton Presidency. From 1999-2001 we received the largest raises in 20 years.

No shit Sherlock. We receive pay raises every year.

the Military health care program was completely overhauled in the 1990’s.

Don’t forget that alot more hospitals were closed during the massive BRAC of the 90’s. Just because your Senator got your area goodies doesn’t mean the rest of the military faired so well. We got raped here in California. I remember back in 1997 towards the end of the fiscal year, we had to siphon fuel from our deadlined vehicles in order to use the ones that were up because we had no money.

Clinton gutted Reagans military build up. God. For Fiberals, history begins each and every morning.

  58. Big Bang hunter says:

Luna, I’m fully convinced it would take an entire american city going up in nuclear dust to even start to shake the Left out of their reductionist illussions, and even begin to accept we have real enemies that want to kill us and destroy western Democracy. They’ve so bought into the “Evil oil crazy West oppressing the third world”, there’s simply no room left in their minds for anything else.

    – So monkeys comment doesn’t surprise me at all. It squares perfectly with the “little Eichmann’s” garbage coming from the mouth of the Churchills on the Left. The very bowels of National Socialism, and 30’s Berlin politics, showing it’s ugly head again, after decades of quiet regrouping.

    – No, sadly I’m not at all surprised. But we all had better wake up to it.

  59. TmjUtah says:

In my previous comment I damned the minority party for failing to recognise that a threat exists.

I failed to mention that the threat they are more than willing to trumpet is that America is the first enemy before all others.

“We had it coming to us” just doesn’t translate into “Remember the Maine”, does it?

  60. trainer says:

    6.  The blocking of conservative judicial nominees

    7.  A renewed attack on the 2nd Amendment

    8.  Increased migration from blue to red and red to blue leading to ever more polarization

    9.  A RINO President in 2008 (we’d get this anyway)

  61. lee says:

Government spending is government spending, lee.

It’s welfare whether you wear a uniform or a maternity dress to pick up your government check.

So, since all the congress critters get paid by the government, we can say senators and representitves are welfare recipients?

    Huh.

I did not know that either.

  62. Big Bang hunter says:

    – Tim, I have no idea what you affiliations are, but I have to say you are among one of the few counter voices that seem civil and level headed enough to egage in a rational discussion. Not only because you’re willing to recognize all sides of the issues, but because your sentences don’t start with the word Nazi, Bush lied, ect.

    – Might seem weird in this polarized country we are so entrenched in our own idea’s at this point we need to thank each other for civil discourse, but there you are. So thanks.

    – One of the dristressing things about the over-the-top rhetoric, along with time wasted with defensiveness, we all have issues with Bush in some area’s, but we never get a chance to discuss them, because we’re too busy knocking down craziness like 9/11 was engineered by Bush, and the CIA, using invisable elephants and bombs disguised as Big Mac’s.

  63. monkyboy says:

Talk about an unholy blend of pork & paranoia.

America spends more than the rest of the world combined on “defense,” and the next twenty countries on the defense spending list are our allies:

    http://tinyurl.com/p7f8c

  64. Big Bang hunter says:

    – That’s the price you pay when you’re the lead dog monky. Would you rather be like France, where your Muslim citizen’s just have to burn some cars and rip down a few of their ghetto’s to horse your policies the way they want?

  65. Big Bang hunter says:

    – How about Spain monkey. You want to be like Spain, where your national elections are determined by which group terrorizes the electorate the most with bombs on trains?

    – I think you need to grow up a little.

  66. lunarpuff says:

Big Bang, I agree with you with you but I don’t even think an entire American city breathing in nuclear dust would change a lot of mindsets. It would still be “our fault” and they would still be clamoring for moments of reflection where we wake up and realize we’re the only ones to blame.

I wonder what the citizens of other countries would be thinking of the ME threat if there was no US. I wonder how that would be different.

It’s not that I agree with everything this administration is doing (hell, I could do a better pr job) but I wonder if they would consider the threat differently if Russia and China were the superpowers.

  67. lee says:

an unholy blend of pork & paranoia.

It’s not paranoia when there really are people wanting to kill you.

And I doubt the welfare recipients in the foxholes being shot at think there’s any pork.

God but you’re a moron monkyboy!

  68. monkyboy says:

Pride is a sin, remember, BBh?

    There’s no shame in charity.

Just please stop using racism to justify your welfare checks…

  69. Big Bang hunter says:

    – Of course they would act different Luna. The left only screams at people they know are rational and civil. they wouldn’t open their mouths with people that would throw them in gulags or cut off their heads. They only rant where they have the safety and freedom of speech to do it.

    – Do you think people like Cindy Sheehan would go to Iran and publicly condemn Theocracy. Would Jhimmi Carter show up in China orating about human rights. Never going to happen. They attack the very form of government that allows them to go on breathing because its safe. Unfortunately it’s also empty nonsense and self loathing BS. But it’s all they’ve got. Dictatorships frown on desent, and they know that.

  70. trainer says:

It isn’t paranoia if they’re out to get you.

Think of the earth as a society in evolution…or for you young ones that went to schools in liberal enclaves, as a computer game.

You started out with small groups of hunter-gatherers which eventually morphed into small clans and tribes.  These groups coalesced into communities and eventually city states.  The city states became countries.  Eventually the countries allied and became hemispheres of influence.  Each interim stage was graced with murder, war, terror, and hopelessness.

It seems to me that we are in an interim stage between hemispheric influence and perhaps a true world government of sorts.

It stands to reason that there are going to be organizational difficulties (probably a billion or two deaths) before we reach the last stage.

You can’t stop it.  You can only hope that America has a soft landing.  So the question for you is – which of the competing world societies/cultures do you want dictating the structure of the long awaited one-world government.

Please note:  History didn’t begin on the day you were born.  Most of us know that, and are willing to consider historical trends in our thinking.  A world government is as assured as the sun coming up in the morning…so says 400,000 years of societal evolution.

So who do you want to write the outline, Chomsky or Burke?

  71. Big Bang hunter says:

    – monkey, you’ve shown yourself to be an narrow minded, immature child. No further response is neccessary, unless you insist on making a total fool of yourself. In which case rave on. I make it a rule not to feed insipid trolls.

  72. lunarpuff says:

Well, you’re right on Big Bang.

But sometimes I think they are truly way simpler than that.

Self criticism (in this case the US) = critical thought process = enlightenment.

Some people really seem to think they become better world citizens, with every US bash. That’s it. They don’t actually have to do anything else.

  73. lunarpuff says:

You know, I could swear the LA Times did a piece on the deplorable conditions of the military while Clinton was still in office. I’m still searching, but I’m pretty sure it was them.

  74. Big Bang hunter says:

Google “peace dividend”….probably pop something up, because I remember Clinton taking some hard hits too, not only for dismantling the military, but stripping the security services also.

  75. lunarpuff says:

Yeah, I’m trying that, but lots of the same results.

This wasn’t a puff piece, it was substantial and it may even have been a series.

The LA Times on-line archives aren’t helping. Arrgghh. I feel like driving down there right this minute!

But they have really good security.

  76. lee says:

OK, I’ve been thinking about it, and you guy’s have it all wrong.

Here’s what will happen when the dems take back congress with overwhelming majorities come November:

    1. The sky will be bluer, the air and water will be pure, and the sun will cool to acceptable levels.

    2. All the terrorists will renounce their violent ways, and take up horticulture. Daisys and carnations as far as the eye can see!

    3. We will be taxed into unimagined prosperity, so much so that all the world will forget hunger, need, and want.

    4. Through universal healthcare, and scientific advances in newly funded stemcell research, the lame will walk, the blind will see, and death will no longer plague man…errr…humankind.

    5. The quaint, outdated idea of religion will be put behind us, freeing the human condition from such silly notions like morality and ultimate truth. From this new enlightnenment, all will realize their bi-sexuality, making the unreasonable concept of marrage a relic of the past.

    6. There will be no more illegal immigrants. Anyone will be welcome to come to America and work for an unregulated wage. American citizens, of course, will enjoy minimum wages equal to the evil fat-cat CEO’s and industrialists.

    7. The UN will be given complete control of our military, judiciary, and foriegn policy, the result of which will be the worlds love and adoration.

Yes friends, all this and more will be yours, if only you will vote with monkyboy and actus, giving the dems the control over our government they deserve.

Remember, vote early, and vote often.

  77. lunarpuff says:

    Lee for Democratic President!

This is a waaaayyy better campaign than what they have planned.

If you add another point about everybody only encountering green lights during rush hour, you’ll be a shoo in!

  78. lee says:

    *Hurumph*…

    Yes, green lights for all!

  79. lunarpuff says:

Oh, and some better waves in the south bay.

  80. Big Bang hunter says:

Wait – wait….what happened to a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage… hot and cold running chambermaids, and beer gushing public fountains…..

  81. Big Bang hunter says:

    – Oh, and I’m not sure I can vote Democrat…..I’m a registered voter with legitmate ID…..

  82. lunarpuff says:

How ‘bout prime rib in every convection oven? And convection ovens in every home?

And a garge for every car? I don’t have a garage.

Chambermaids at every temp! Beer gushing everywhere!

  83. lunarpuff says:

Make that a garage for every car.

  84. lunarpuff says:

What? You go to your polling place with actual id, Big Bang?

    Subservient behavior I say!

  85. Big Bang hunter says:

    – Luna with Lee as president we’ll be so wealthy and prosperous we can even have garges for every car…. what the hell….might as well go all the way….Do they come in Teal?

  86. lee says:

Hold it, hold it! You guys are getting carried away.

We can’t have beer gushing everywhere!

It would contaminate the wine dispensing drinking fountains on every corner.

    Sheesh!

  87. Big Bang hunter says:

Hmmm…. Msybre I can dress as a landscaper, and mumble in Hispanic….¿Piense que trabajará? (think that will work?)

  88. lunarpuff says:

Ooooh, good point. A garge and a car!

And I just know he’s going to make beef healthier. I hate chicken!

Lee, your campaign manager is reading this, right?

  89. Big Bang hunter says:

    – I can see the great leader Lee is already starting to go back on his campaign promises….just like a politician…. Feh…..

  90. lunarpuff says:

Lee, you’re right. We can’t have beer gushing everywhere. Some people get angry and violent when they drink beer.

Clearly, we will need some marijuana stations.

This will tie in nicely with the “Bring Back Red Meat” part of your campaign.

Who doesn’t want a burger right now?

  91. Big Bang hunter says:

Actually I was planing to vote a straight Eskimo ticket this time around. That way we can start pumping Anwar immediately, and Caribou meat is to die for….

  92. actus says:

Those “record level raises” still left us 30% BEHIND the national average. ..and they aren’t record level anymore, now are they

A lot of people have had sucky wage performance in the last 30-some years. Hooray for capital!

    6.  The blocking of conservative judicial nominees

That’s a senate win. Not a congress win. The senate isn’t likely to turn dem.

  93. lee says:

    Whats all this meat talk?

Don’t you know all good democrats are PETA card carrying vegans?

No, under democrat rule, anything with a brain will become a protected species, and any one found with a protected species on thier property will have to be monitered to assure the survival of said brain bearer.

The problem of how to produce enough agriculture products to feed everyone, without plowing under zillions of kangaroo rats, three toed salamanders, bird eggs, snakes and such is a problem that the DNC is working feverishly to solve. Until then, you may eat certain approved fish, as long as they aren’t caught in waters containing dolphins, sharks, or whales.

  94. Big Bang hunter says:

Hmmmm…. no meat?…I’ll have to rethink my vote. That would mean canceling this years annual Eagle skeet shoot/Eagle taco’s cookout, and I sure as hell don’t want to be the one to tell the group.

  95. lunarpuff says:

    Well.

Lee, it’s unfortunate you did not state these views at the start of your candidacy. I’m very disappointed. <sniff>

I’m afraid I too may have to vote Eskimo.

Which would be fitting. I check that box when I take on-line surveys sometimes!

  96. Big Bang hunter says:

    – I’ve never personally checked any Eskimo box’s myself, but I’m pretty sure they would be like any other’s…. Maybe a little “earthier”

    – Ok…that was bad…. I need rest….

(and a good juicy hamberger…Dare I say it…. Oh what the hell…. wonder if In N’out is still open?)

  97. lee says:

Well, the last Dem presidential candidate went out to “do me some hunt’in”. So I guess that would be alright.

As long as you are against private citizens having guns…cuz that’s just wrong.

  98. lunarpuff says:

This is the best time for an In-N- Out run. They get crazy around midnite.

Now, Lee, I’m still hopeful for you. In spite of the anti red meat post. But you need to add to your list.

I eagerly await the updated version.

  99. Big Bang hunter says:

    – hmmmm…. well can’t keep a good woman waiting Lee….. and you thought running for office was going to be a cake walk….. heh…

(Should I get a triple – animal style Luna?)

  100. lee says:

Actually, I’m going to have to climb back out of the head of a democrat.

That little game could make a guy as insane as a real democrat!!

    I feel whoozy…
