From La Repubblica, sourcing Time Magazine:
Fidel Castro has cancer, is at a terminal stage of the illness, and never again will return to power. That’s the conviction of many American intelligence experts, reported in the American weekly magazine, Time.
According to the American secret services, the maximum leader, who’s 80, is very ill. “Official US sources,” the weekly writes on its web site, “have told Time that many within the US government are convinced that Castro suffers from terminal cancer and will never again return to power.”
The news has been published on the web site of the magazine. Obviously this is in the realm of the unverifiable: the same weekly doesn’t exclude the possibility that it might not be completely accurate.
Googling shows that Polipundit had this yesterday, and this loonbat at the HuffPo was talking about it on 9/28, in an article entitled, Six Conspiracy Theories I’d Like to Know More About:
Have UFO Reports Been Suppressed By Conservative Christians In The Military and Government?– A veil of silence and secrecy followed the UFO sightings in Roswell, New Mexico in the late 1940s. Other reports of alien landings and abductions have similarly been suppressed. Many highly conservative Bible-thumping preachers believe the Bible teaches us that not only were we made in the image of God, but we are special, and the only sensient creation in the universe. But what if we had physical proof this was not the case? I buy that the authorities have feared any such news would frighten the public, but we now live under a regime where the cultivation of fear is not avoided, but strategically embraced. We now have a military with a strong base of evangelical believers, and many of their civilian and military commanders adhere to the same beliefs. So if in fact there are UFOs (which I am not sure of) would suppression of alien intelligence be an effort to not introduce a Bible-disproving element into the world?
Ho, boy. Well, he starts us off with this bromide:
By training and occupation, I’m one for hard evidence rather than automatic conspiracy-theory buy-in. Just because something can happen doesn’t mean it will, has, or is. And as has often been said, correlation does not imply causation.
Ya know, I wonder if maybe the cleric who molested Mark Foley was a Democrat . . . .
Anyway, all the comments are flagged as abusive, so you know there’s gonna be some good eatin’ there.

Castro:

What with Latin America trending Leftward in recent years, the successor to Castro is unlikely to be Milton Friedman. All we can hope for is that they’ll ease off on the political imprisonments and executions.
Castro’s going to die!? But—but he’s only 80 fercryinnoutloud!!!
Which leads natuarally to the question on everyones minds – “When they fly him to the Mayo Clinic, can he bring the chickens?”

I especially liked the commenter opining on Fidel’s cancer:
that pretty much sums up the loony left. mcdonalds and starbucks are a greater threat to the people than a repressive communist regime.
Geez, and I thought that was someone being ironical, moflicky. If he wasn’t, he needs a long vacation on the island paradise.
Geez, all I can think of is another long death watch of a Spanish speaking dictator.
