Skul–Tennessee William’s A Streetcar Named Desire. In the film version, Vivienne Leigh played Stella’s sister, Blanche DuBois; in the Broadway version, it was Jessica Tandy. Marlon Brando played Stanley Kowalski in both.
Stanley – one of the worst brutes of literature. And poor Stella trying to cling to some pathetic hope that he wasn’t. Kim Hunter was the original Stella in the play and then appeared in the film.
TW: He couldn’t overcome the fire in his soul. I love the way these words fit so nicely.
This works better as a Local Hero reference than a Streetcar Named Desire reference. First of all, it is “STELLA!”, not “Stelllaaa!”. Second, the “tic, tic, tic” is more reminiscent the “knock, knock, knock” of Ronny working on Gordon’s roof in the Local Hero scene.
“No, no, Marlon. You’re still–I don’t know what, but we’re not there yet. Let’s try it again, this time with more… more L’s. And more A‘s. But you’ve got to reach the L’s before you can get to the A’s… Ok? OK! Quiet on the set, everyone….”
OK, I’ll start. Who’s Stella?
Nice..
I try to remember Brando in his good days when he wore his biker bar leathers, versus the bloated carcass he became…
ADRIANNE!
My guess:
Victor: How are things? I heard about the ceilihd.
Gordon Urquhart: Oh, we’ve lots to tell you. We’ve been invaded by America. We’re all gonna be rich.
Victor: Really?
Gordon Urquhart: We won’t have anywhere to call home, but we’ll be stinkin’ rich.
ELAINE!

Jeff, great literary allusion!
i loved Oh, Streetcar!
ATTICA!
DOLORES!
(I think Seinfeld is more existential than Rocky Balboa)

“Hey, where the white women”
I have to go with 6Gun.

Also, Local Hero is a better movie.
Jeff got me with that one. Didn’t see that coming at all.
I guess if we are voting, I’m all for “Attica!”
Aside from American Big Oil owning oppressed folk, all I got is this, Pete:
—
(Pet rabbit served in white wine sauce. Oldson distraught, Mack outraged.)
Gordon Urquhart: Think we should call a vet, Stella?
Stella: Don’t be a clown Gordon.

Plus:
–This Stella was such a charmer;
-What pretty eyes you have;
-42 year-old single malts are indeed barely old enough to be out on their own;
-Surely there’s an actus angle in here someplace.
It shouts Goldstein…

Jeff needs a break to collect his thoughts.
OK, that’s cool.
“JOHN JACOB JINGLEHEIMER SCHMIDT!”
How ‘bout cuttin’ the re-bop?
ROXANNE!
God damn you, Goldstein! Will somebody please tell me what this is all about? I hate to rely on the kindness of strangers.
I was always partial to Shatner’s homage to streetcar in Star Trek II:
Khhaaaaaaannnnnnnn……
Stella, I hate to ask, but how long has it been since you’ve developed that annoying tic?
TW: You’re really not your former self…
Anybody else know Stan Freberg’s “Sh-boom”?
That’s an unforgettable “Stella”.
YEEEAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!
SERENITY NOW!!
OT: Hey Jeff, either Salon is stealing your shtick, or Bolton’s haircut is now giving interviews. Regis must be jealous.
