“DCCC Uses Dead Soldiers to Raise Money”

From Red State:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has a new fundraising pitch going out. It uses September 11th and our troops to raise money. But, instead of using those images to show Democrats would be tougher on terrorists and make America more secure, it uses pictures of dead soldiers in their flag draped coffins and the subtle threat of harm from September 11th to make a threat to the GOP.

See it for yourself here.

And be sure to check out Rahm Emanuel’s DCCC fundraising letter—in which he links to the video of flag-draped coffins.

The message?  Well, I read it this way:  “With your money and support, we at the DCCC will have your money and support.  Suckers!  Bu$h Sux!  San Dimas High School football rulez!”

But then, I’m a bit jaded.

60 Replies to ““DCCC Uses Dead Soldiers to Raise Money””

  1. DakRoland says:

I read that video as saying the conservatives and republicans are responsible for the War on Terror, the terrorist bombings in Iraq and elsewhere, our soldiers being killed, hurricanes, the New Orleans tragedies after Katrina, cats fighting with dogs, gas pains, and hangnails. Vote for Democrats and you’ll get pretty sunsets, good background music and cute little bunnies.

  2. shank says:

That is, unsurprisingly, typical.  Truly, if the music was a little cornier, I would’ve thought it a parody.  “Look at all the bad stuff!  Hurricanes!  Islamists!  Okay, okay…now look at all the pretty pictures!  Nancy Pelosi shaking hands with children!  And Bill Clinton, damn he was cool!”

What a strategy.  A solution.  Do your part.

    To give us power.

    P.S. – San Dimas blows.

  3. Michael says:

I saw that pathetic commercial and what I got from it was a feeble attempt at scare-mongering, the obsessive and predictable picture and quote from Ol’ Slick, and zero, count ‘em zero, new ideas. Not even a promise of an idea, just hot, dry flatulence from the party of windage and stink.

They are truly lost.  Using Reid and Pelosi as anything but dartboard targets is tragic.  Meanwhile they savage any Democrat who actually, you know, cares for the good of America and her future, like Joe Lieberman.  These suckers are drowning in their own hate and are being pulled in 8 different directions at once.  This is a formula for disaster for them and they’re too dumb to see it coming.

Think I’ll pop some popcorn and get ready for the show.

  4. McGehee says:

The Right refers to America’s honored fallen to ask that their sacrifice not be in vain.

The Left refers to them as though their spirits might be brought forth to haunt the Right and scare voters away from them.

“Support the troops?” They keep using that phrase. I don’t think it means what they think it means.

  8. Jiggity says:

Did anyone else notice that the video has photoshopped’ Tom Delays Mugshot? The side profile is correct but the frontal is not. I remember him smiling big – not with a frown. The photo was also in color and not black and white. Oh well, just curious I guess.

  9. Retread says:

It ended with a plea to help create a Democratic majority. Interesting that they didn’t say why that would be a good thing.

    Heh, nice B&T reference.

  12. shank says:

Furthermore, what I find really agigtating about the whole thing, is that it looks entirely towards the past.  There’s no plan, no strategy, no solution; just a look into the past 8 years or so at everything that went wrong.  If there’s anything that the past 8 years have taught us it’s that we will learn nothing, will never move forward; if we insist on immediate kneejerk reactions.

The fact that the DCCC has decided to air an ad that simply appeals to what’s happened in our immediate past is a testament to their greatest pillar – being reactionary.  In this world, we must be proactive in our attempts to thwart totalitarian regimes, especially given the liberal approach that has fragmented urban neighborhoods into those sections ruled by sharia and those ruled by the laws of the country.

In the end, and I wish this were true; I’ll vote for the first candidate in ‘08 who admits that we’re fighting a war on fascism; and not a war on terrorism or Al-Qaeda.  But I really see no proof in words or actions that tells me any politician thinks this, or is willing to say it.

  13. TODD says:

Watched the video. After throwing up in mouth at work, I laughed as the images of a caring and compassionate Nancy Pelosi danced through mind. Then there ws Bill C. What the f$#%?  Note to DCCC, please distribute this garbage nationwide. Then we Rethugs won’t have to contribute any money because this crap does all the talking for us..

Thank you.  Also Shank I concur, San Dimas sucks… Their claim to fame? Bill and Ted and Raging Waters…..

  14. The_Real_JeffS says:

I liked how they clipped photos of Bush and Rove together.  Y’know, playing to the fears that Rove is really the Secret Emperor™ United States of America, os something like that.

Other than that, yeah, no message beyond ”We were in power until 2000!  Put us back in, in the spirit of Bill Clinton!

And the use of the soldiers, living and fallen?  Lame.  Understandable—the left has been campaigning for years to get photos of the coffins arriving at Travis.  Now they show us why…..and it has nothing to do with honoring our fallen.

  15. ahem says:

This is one of the finest displays of Orwellian mendacity from an American political party I have ever seen. No pretense at anything other than stalinist propaganda. Deep dark music versus high light music; dark monolithic graphics versus multi-colored, cheerful graphics. Retouch the images to make the president look positively inhuman. Toss in a picture of an air force pilot giving the thumbs up–despite the fact that you really hate him and wish he would die. And that demogogic picture of Clinton!

Few words: let the images do this talking. No issues, no argument, no meaning. A world divided into good and bad, white and black, just as Orwell predicted: ”Every year fewer and fewer words, and the range of consciousness always a little smaller.

If anything, this ad demonstrates exactly how deeply down the hole the Dems have fallen. They are past the point of no return. Their headlong rush to doom is irrevocable. If this is the kind of propaganda their leaders condone, they are beyond redemption. They have hit the event horizon.

  16. Jeff Goldstein says:

The music mix reminded me of the brainwashing scene in The Parallax View.

    Maybe Beatty was consulted?

  17. Hannity's sock drawer says:

I think they photoshopped Cheney’s choppers along with the Delay mug shot. Other than that I was impressed or depressed, I’m not sure.

  18. Rick O'Shea says:

I hate to say it but the National Republican Senatorial Committee is no better.  They raise money through a shameless, endless series of so-called surveys that are really just poorly disguised shake-downs, complete with check-the-box donation amounts.  They are a complete waste of time and money, and don’t even have the competence to remove names from their solicitation list by request.

Give directly to candidates, these people are worthless.

  19. tink says:

    McGhee,

I’m just a grunts wife.. my first reaction to the video (after my head exploded) wasn’t even appropriate for the comments section at PW.

  22. JD says:

Weren’t the Libs expressing their righteous indignation and moral outrage at some Republican ad that had frames of 9/11 in it ?  I am no longer suprised at their utter and complete perfidy.

I know it would be intolerable, but at the same time, I think it would be fun to see them win some control, just so they would be required to present some kind of plan, and they could prove how deep their bankruptcy of ideas runs.

As is, their sheer and unadulterated hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Good catch, ahem.  I wondered why that video looked so familiar….I watched a couple of the old Soviet films for history.  The similarity is chilling, isn’t it?

  30. ahem says:

Interestingly, I had a friend recommend George Lakoff’s egregious, “Don’t Think of an Elephant” to me only yesterday. In it, Lakoff–a linguist of all things–presents progressives with the silver bullet by which they may win future presidential elections.

He artificially divides the Reps and the Dems into two laughably simplistic ‘frames’: Republicans are the stern father-figger; Dems are the nuturing mother-figger. The strategy: Take everything a Republican says and re-state it in nurturing terms. In short, take one idea and carefully dress it so it looks like something else entirely: lie. Hilarity ensues.

What an exercise in relativism, raw arrogance, immorality, greed and cynicism. And I’m not even mentioning stupidity. How did this man rise to such prominence? It’s absurd.

I sent back a reply: ‘Lakoff’s thought is anathema to me.’ So I guess I’m one more friend down.

  31. Alan says:

I don’t see the video representing anything different than what the Democratic Party leadership has said all along. The video illustrates what they claim is wrong with America…flag draped coffins, a burning military vehicle, the helmet and rifle of a dead soldier, a power plant firing on all cylinders, high gasoline prices. And in turn, if given power again, the Democrats will build homes and windmills. And there’ll be no more death; for the war will be declared over. The video ends with the loud voice of Clinton saying “behold, the tabernacle of the Democratic Party is with the people.” The Democratic Party will wipe away every tear from our eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying; and there shall be no more pain, for all that was wrought on us by those evil Rethuglicans will pass away and all things will become new.

  32. ahem says:

It’s “darker and edgier”, to use some hacknied Hollywood PR jargon.

  33. Bender says:

That’s not the Delay mugshot I’ve seen.  He’s not smiling, his clothes are different, and the number plate at the bottom reads Travis County (where Austin is, not Houston, where Delay turned himself in) and ends (cleverly) with GOP.  As CNN noted, “In his mug shot, a smiling DeLay is wearing a coat and tie. The photograph doesn’t have numbers below his face like many mug shots because the county no longer uses such a system, Martinez said.”

I guess since Delay didn’t give the Dirtocrats the mug shot that they craved, they just invented one that was more to their liking.  Typical.  Fake, but accurate!

  34. N. O'Brain says:

  35. Dave says:

I didn’t watch with the sound on, but “America Needs A New Direction” with images that culminate in a picture of BJ Clinton?  Can’t they do any better than that.

Presumably the picture of wind turbines had something to do with the Donks’ supposed committment to renewable energy, laughable to me because coming from MA, both of my Senatorial pantloads are against the proposed Cape Winds project because they might be able to see windmills from their family compounds and/or yachts.

    TW: “progress”—LOL

  38. PMain says:

Funny, I must have watched a different video since the results shown are all products of the Democratic political policy. I saw:

Rising gas prices: caused by lack of new oil refineries, refusing to drill for available domestic oil off coasts & Anwar

Dead US soldiers: failure to respond to bombing of USS Cole, 1993 WTC bombing, bombing of US Embassies in Africa & Mogadishu which emboldened Al Qaeda

Off sourcing: America companies are forced to move manufacturing over seas where they are over taxed & burdened w’ increased costs of health insurance, workman’s comp, unionized labor & won’t have to be worried about being sued over the slightest slight.

Katrina: failed response from local & state wide Democratic leaders & squandering of funds set aside for levee repair & updating.

Is it me or is every shot of a Democratic politician in the video they are looking down onto the people?

  39. BoZ says:

    uses pictures of dead soldiers

    Not a problem.

Because the dead vote Democrat, all Democrats are entitled to depict any individual dead person however they wish.

That’s why all those Condoleeza Jemimas and vampire Jews in their cartoons aren’t crazed outbursts of racism. The charge doesn’t even make sense. They own those people.

    Especially the dead ones.

Yes… let’s hand over the security of our nation to the party that cares more about poll numbers.

The left have no values… save what the latest polls tell them to have.

Democratically? We’re a constitutional republic…. people have their “preference” when they vote.
