An open letter to Glenn Greenwald

Dearest Glenn —

I hear you’ve been demanding an apology from me.  Evidently, you believe I unfairly taunted you for your attempt to turn a story about a secret progressive message pipeline into a story about a single email that has absolutely no bearing whatsoever on Kos’s “suggestion” that an unflattering story be starved of oxygen (the implications of which I discussed here).

Well, sorry.  But my independent spirit won’t allow me to cave to the “demands” of other bloggers.  I’ll leave that to those of you on the Townhouse list.  Rumor has it you guys are experts!

Sincerely,

P.S.  How do you feel about revealing the names of those on the Townhouse email list?  Because it sure would be groovy to see how many of them mentioned the story after Kos suggested you bury it like so many Hussein-era Iraqi marsh Arabs.

P.P.S.  Have you spoken yet with Mr Maguire? He has an apology for you, too.

  4. Jay says:

It’s fascinating how he tries to wriggle out of it.

Jason Zengerle attributed an email to Steve Gilliard.  That attribution is incorrect.

    Therefore:

    1) This email is fabricated.

    2) All the emails are fake.

    3) Jason Zengerle is a complete fraud.

    4) There is no Townhouse email list.

    5) There was no attempt to suppress the Kosola story.

    6) None of this ever happened.

    7) Nothing to see; go about your business.

I thought the “astrology-based community” believed in “fake but accurate”.

SW: expect.  What did you?  Frankly, this spam word generator has been on a roll, lately.

    As I’ve mentioned elsewhere…

    22 Words! 22 Words!

Dear Glenn, the issues remain the same:

The “fiercely independent” lefty blogs coordinated their “fiercely independent” posts on Townhouse like teenyboppers trading make-up tips on MySpace.

Kos tried to take advantage of this and the “fiercely independent” lefty bloggers largely went along.

A “fiercely independent” star-twiddling stock swindler is still handling lefty campaign contributions.

And the “fiercely independent” Kos Moulitsas’ loyalties seem to be tied damn tightly to monies sent to his star-twiddling stock swindler buddy.

When you find something in those 22 Words! that discredit that, you just let us know, ‘kay?

  7. Tom Maguire says:

Gee, this apology thing just doesn’t seem to come naturally…

  8. Kent says:

  10. BumperStickerist says:

    Shorter Gilliard:

I object to the accurate summation of my thoughts being presented as my making an actual statement of my thoughts.

    Which is okay.

I think Zengerle mea culpa’ed his way through the ‘Sorry, I didn’t check with Gilliard, my bad’ part of the story just fine.

I’m just grateful that Gilliard hasn’t played the race card …

  12. reliapundit says:

we really shouldn’t “take down” kos and armstrong.

    they’re our best secret weapons.

by forcing the dems and the msm to the left, they are marginlizing them.

    result?

    we win.

so: START PRAISING KOS AND ARMSTRONG AS VISIONARIES.

  13. corvan says:

I’m not interested in marginalizing them.  I just want to know which journos kiss Kos’s ring before they write their stories.  I have no problem with them doing that, of course, to each his own.  I just think we should know which way they are shading the facts.

  14. McGehee says:

    Twice.  In the left ear.

Glenn? What’s that sticky stuff all over the r4ight side of your face?

    Glenn?

    What are you, deaf!?

  15. wishbone says:

“Facts” is stretching it a bit, corvan.

  16. Twok says:

His ability to do this has been commented on before.  Here is a humorous look at the leftist mind.

“Want in one hand and shit in the Other”

That is a classic bit of “southern wisdom”. My father told me that many years ago and when I used it on my own kids they said “ D-Daddy really said THAT” .

He now thinks it wasn’t wise to say that to a child.

  21. cynnm,

Kos and his crew of loons got caught in some major hypocrisy.  Greenwald has misrepresented the facts in a transparently dishonest attempt to duck the mess on his own shoes and fake a defense of Kos.

In other words, same ol’ same ol’.

  22. Master Tang says:

Help me out again here – this is the razor-sharp reasoning skills that made Greenwald such a high-flying attorney?

Not so much passing the bar, as lowering the bar, maybe.

  23. LoafingOaf says:

Yeah, the Kultists with their marching orders, like Glenn Greenwald and that ridiculously sheep-like Lindsey Beyerstein, have just been trying to keep people’s eyes off the ball. Obviously.

IMHO there is something to the Kosola story that reveals corruption.  Check out this take on what happened to Hacket, written by a Democrat: http://www.buckeyestateblog.com/node/1768

But yeah, the Townhouse Kultists wanna divert everyone’s eyes…..

  24. KM says:

  26. LostKos and The Moonbat Quartet…now playing…

  27. wishbone says:

Yeah, the Kultists with their marching orders, like Glenn Greenwald and that ridiculously sheep-like Lindsey Beyerstein, have just been trying to keep people’s eyes off the ball. Obviously.

That’s just a result of the aspect of Sedna that’s inhibiting the confluence of Mars being in Lobo and Jupiter being in the rumpus room of the Fifth Dimension minus Billy Davis, Jr.–who always rode Mariyln McCoo’s coattails anyway.

See, Glenn, this aimless “look over there” crap is easy if you just let the words come.

are you looking for answers regarding this go-around, or the whole torrid affair?

  30. topsecretk9 says:

    Funny part, Glenn wrote originally

The anti-Jerome article in the NY Post is written very aggressively and is sure to be picked up any minute by all of the right-wing bloggers and then the right-wing press. If it isn’t answered substantively by Jerome or someone on his behalf, I think it will settle in as conventional wisdom somewhat quickly and will be an albatross for some time to come. Ignoring the story or hoping it stays unnoticed doesn’t sem like a viable option at this point.

The “Dean-paid-Kos” story from a couple of years ago got relatively little traction, and is virtually never mentioned outside of a small circle of right-wing bloggers, because Markos put the facts on the table so quickly, candidly, and comprehensively that it became clear that there was nothing there. To similarly kill off this story quickly and prevent it from taking root, I really think Jerome—or at least someone on his behalf—needs to do something similar, and soon. Terse denials and politician-like refusals to talk about it will, it seems clear to me, only inflame things further.

So his little look over here magic trick, even contradicts the central premise of his email pleading with Townhouse– which was to respond to charges– and falls in line with Kos’s dictate starve the story of oxygen

So by proxy he furthers his projectionist Authoritarian Cult meme ala TownHouse that he originally intended for conservatives…hilarious.

BYW…who was the other authentic email from?

  31. twolaneflash says:

    Glenn dearest,

BOHICA!  And don’t expect a courtesy reach ar…oh, you know!

  32. Brian says:

Glenn’s response is as predicatable as the tides: turn one mistake/misstep (in this case, the fake email) into a means of avoiding substantive questions.  He’s going to go on and on about it, as will Gilliard (“Zengerle hasn’t handled this well”), while their fellow bloggers remain obediently silent.  Zengerle assembled enough information, aside from the questionable email, to put Kos and Townhouse under a harsh light.  Let’s keep it there, while amusing ourselves with his self-serving indignation.

  33. topsecretk9 says:

    also

    Maguire;

Why don’t you comment on Greenwalds site?

Why do you run and hide when he comments on yours?

Stop skulking around the friendlies and grow some stones you diminutive Instapusillanimous!

Why do you and Reynolds refuse a ‘live’ debate with Greenwald?  Maybe if Jeff Gallstone joined

your team. Would three against one be enough to

  38. wishbone says:

Why do you and Reynolds refuse a ‘live’ debate with Greenwald?  Maybe if Jeff Gallstone joined

your team. Would three against one be enough to

    erase your shrinkage?

    “Debate.”

What is there to debate in this instance, Semanticleo?  Above, Jay captured your hero’s postion perfectly:

    1) This email is fabricated.

    2) All the emails are fake.

    3) Jason Zengerle is a complete fraud.

    4) There is no Townhouse email list.

    5) There was no attempt to suppress the Kosola story.

    6) None of this ever happened.

    7) Nothing to see; go about your business.

There again, as my grandfather used to say, “It takes an idiot to argue with one.”

    I’m stopping now.  Get it.

Hint:  It begins with “I” and describes you and the rest of sooooper secret cabal.

  39. topsecretk9 says:

Seman…you aren’t making sense and most of the posters here are unaquanted so try not to be so “inside”

  40. topsecretk9 says:

So… Semanticleo…enquiring minds want to know…how much does Greenwald pay you to do this? Or Townhouse…what’’s the budget? Or do they just let you be in on TH and that’s enough for you…cheapie like.

  41. islmfaoscist says:

Don’t hurt him, Jeff! Just slap him in the face with your cock a few times. LOL

  42. Semanticleo says:

    Topsec;

No one pays me, it is a labor or pure love.

  43. twolaneflash says:

No debate necessary.  In the words of Woodrow Wilson:  “Never murder a man who is committing suicide.”

  44. topsecretk9 says:

    it is a labor

Oh…that’s what they say…but what’s really weird is that your whore yourself while’s they go for steak.

  45. Master Tang says:

Now Greenwald wants a “live debate”?  Sorry to trot out an old saw, but the dude really is a glutton for punishment.

Just what is it that Kos offers these people – or holds over their heads?

  46. topsecretk9 says:

Or Dana…do you do it because it’s just sorta academic?

  47. Tom in Texas says:

Jay you claim Greenwald made these points:

    1) This email is fabricated.

    2) All the emails are fake.

    3) Jason Zengerle is a complete fraud.

    4) There is no Townhouse email list.

    5) There was no attempt to suppress the Kosola story.

    6) None of this ever happened.

    7) Nothing to see; go about your business.

    To refute each;

    1) True, he does assert one of the emails was never sent to the Townhouse email list.

    2) Utter Bullshit.  Greenwald never said every email was fake.  He never claimed his own email was forged , for instance.

    3) He claimed that Zengerle failed to check with his source (Gilliard) to verify his sources information.  Kind of a basic journalistic responsibility.  Hence, he didn’t call him a total fraud, just a shoddy journalist—something that seems pretty independently verifiable in this case.

    4) Again utter crap. Greenwald not only never claimed there was no Townhouse email list, but expressly states that Gilliards e-mail never appeared there.  Where does this even come from?

    5) Unless there is another email somewhere (you know— a REAL one) that shows suppression of this story by another member of Advertising Liberally who wanted to write about it, the allegation that Kos suppressed stories is completely baseless.  No blogger attempted to write about Kos/Armstrong and was punished by Kos that we know of.  Until there is, you are making things up.  All we know is that Kos asked other bloggers not to write about this.  It’s embarassing for him.  Of course he would ask this.

Your final two “points” simply extend your fantastic scenario as far off into the horizon as you can fly.

  48. bains says:

It appears that Tom in Tx has learned well… one might even say, kneeling before Greenwald.

  49. Tom in Texas says:

An excellent rejoinder to the points I raised bains—I’m impressed you are able to address the issue rather than make pointless gay jokes.

  50. Tom in Texas says:

And I’m not kneeling before Glenn; my check is in the mail from Kos currently.

  51. alppuccino says:

Kos and Greenwald frolicking topless on the beach would be a sight to behold.  I hear Greenwald is stacked.

I guess this makes Semanticleo a breast man:

    Haven’t you heard?

You just can’t make this shit up.

  53. MarkD says:

Tom Rather?  I thought his name was Dan.

I also thought the Three Stooges were dead.  Obviously, I am mistaken.

  54. Jim in KC says:

I find the moniker “Semanticleo” to be eerily close to “Miss Cleo.”

Psychic lady, you drive me crazy

With your video voodoo, and your beehive hairdo

Like a genie in a bottle, you’re livin’ in my TV set.

Tom in Tx:  if Kos successfully suppressed the story (and it appears that he did), small wonder that no one tried to write about it and was “punished,” no?

Greenwald is simply dodging the main issue.  Zengerle has already issued a correction, so perhaps we could get back to it.  It would be interesting to know who the journalists are who are on the Townhouse list, as Corvan has noted elsewhere.

  55. capt joe says:

For those who dont frequent Tom MaGuire’s site, Semanticleo, who everyone over there including finally Tom call semanticlown, is the resident site cockroach.  He constantly tries to get whatever the current post off to whatever little leftie fantasy delusion he happens to be having that day/hour.

As to the debate, with all the challenges he/she/it seems to make, you would actually think one had been issued from Greenwad.  Turns out this seems to be his bit of fantasy football.

In short, semanticlown is more aggressive actus and you know what to do.  wink

  56. corvan says:

Back to the orginal topic.  I still find it odd that journalists would want to be in a secret club with political activists.  the association seems to indicate that they are interested in something other than simply reporting the news.

  57. alppuccino says:

I still find it odd that journalists would want to be in a secret club with political activists.

Keep in mind that Gilliard touts his ethics training in Journalism class at NYU.  He’s got mad ethics.  Mad NYU Journalism ethics, yo.

  58. Ric Locke says:

semanticleo is simply supporting Glen Greenwald’s point, which is the same as the general argument of the Left: Rightists are enormously smarter than Leftists and always know everything that’s going on in deep detail. Therefore any error by a rightist is a deliberate fabrication, a lie, because they always know better, and it completely invalidates their argument. Leftists, on the other hand, are encouraged to lie because they are stupid and ill-informed, and thereby privileged to make things up from the whole cloth regardless of history, plausibility, or the laws of physics, none of which they are obliged to acknowledge, much less comprehend. Such statements then become the moral and political truth.

    Regards,

How do you feel about revealing the names of those on the Townhouse email list?

To get to the bottom of this, once and for all, we need to take things one step further—in addition to revealing the names of all of the Townhouse members, we need to see ALL of the emails, posts and communications pertaining it.  The contents of the Townhouse clique must be produced.

The entire listserv.  All of it.  Everything.

After all, we need to definitively resolve the issue of whether one out of 4 emails was properly attributed.  To do that, let’s open up the smoky backroom and let the fresh air in.  Let’s see who the players are.  Let everyone read ALL of the Townhouse content.

It’s the only way to be sure.

I checked out the billmon post, it started well, got lost in the middle.  He does have a sharp wit.  But Armstrong is just a low rent cheat.  Who uses astrology.  Seriously, the guy is now and forever a joke to anyone with an IQ over 95 and any intellectual and moral integrity whatsoever.

Per your other query, Mona is a just bandwagoner.

    Secrets?  E-mails?

Can we get the NYT on this?  They should crack it in no-time… oh, wait… no National Security is involved… nevermind…

Still, I hope Jeff’s message leaves a mark!  That has *got* to smart!

  88. Good Lt says:

Daily Kos is walking all over you guys, steamrolling you, and you think you are winning and outsmarting them?

Ummm…We’re not the ones furiously trying to cover our collective asses after it was revealed that from a slimy smoke-filled, a political coordination committee of leftwing…ahem…”opinion leaders” was whoring themselves to the highest bidder, taking cash in exchange for providing good PR for their chosen candidates while the Kossaks lap up every word of it like the inordinate drones that they are, all with the Kosfather and the Astrologer at the helm. And the emails that prove it, etc.

You know what you’re problem is? Your boys got B U S T E D becoming what they claimed to hate.  I know you love it.

You guys are doing great work over there, though. Really. The more you froth and threaten, the more the GOP wins. Keep it up! 0-21 coming this November!

Ah, but you see, some of us aren’t phonies and liars.

I can’t help notice that lefties fear being connected with their online personas whereas those on the right have tended toward dropping the psuedonyms alotogether. Reference Wretchard and the Powerline guys, all of whom “outed” themselves in a bid for the increase in credibility that writing under one’s own name brings.

And then there’s Goldstein…if that is his real name.

“Ah, but you see, some of us aren’t phonies and liars. Where you’re from, you wouldn’t understand that.”

This is why Daily Kos is steamrolling you all.  You don’t even understand the basics.  You think I am a liar and a fake – because I use ‘mickslam’!!  And manages an attempt at an insult – ‘where I come from’ to boot.  If it wasn’t so quaint, I might actually be offended.

Go back to listening to talk radio.  These newfangled machines are just too much for you.

  91. Phil Smith says:

Go back to talk radio?  What, you mean Air America isn’t “steamrolling” too?

  92. B Moe says:

I can’t help notice that lefties fear being connected with their online personas…

    Can’t imagine why.

I think most of them just get off on having a nom de bloguerre, makes them feel like real revolutionaries.

  93. bains says:

Nawood, Mona is trying to do some false flag recruitment – pretending to be a reasonable libertarian so disillusioned with the current administration that she’ll reluctantly support the Dems.  Somewhat successful for Jon Henke over at QandO seems to have developed a hard-on for her.  If you read enough of Mona however you find that her views are indistinguishable from your average Dem.

Tom in Tx – I was commenting on just how closely your argument mirrors Greenwald’s, including the attempt to deflect attention away from the real issue, as Jeff notes in the post for this thread, to the manufactured outrage over one false email .  One gets the sense that you are trying to please Greenwald.

I like PW a lot but I’m never going to go around pimping myself for Jeff on other sites. It looks degrading.

    Is it, Mickslam?

Well, to be fair, if I were you, I’d be ashamed to be linked to the posts I leave as well.

However, since I’m not ashamed of what I say, I don’t mind being associated with it.

    That basic enough for you?

No, I think you’re more of a blowhard. Low grade mental illness…delusions of grandeur… overreliance on emotion over rationality…nothing too terribly serious…for us. For you, it means being a deluded loser though you may continue to view losses as victories which might mitigate your personal pain.

All in all, you’re just the dust bunny that rolled in for the kitties to play with today, and you’re pretty much irrelevant beyond that.

    Feel better now?

    tw: an army of kitties.

  98. Phone Technician in a Time of Roaming says:

You might want to brush up on that reading comprehension stuff—I’m calling you a fake and a liar because you advocate using fake emails.

Oh, and by the way, keep up that steamroller. So far, it’s put the other side in the White House, given it control of both Houses, and two Supreme Court justices. I mean, we’re begging for mercy here. We really are.

Interesting…since the KosRoots openly allow they are stealing the palybook of the Right Wing Noise machine…fight fire with fire and all that.

My pathetic-dar is ringing, Pablo.  Were you one of the loser kids that I made fun of in high school?  If so, I’ve grown up and should say I am sorry.

“Well, to be fair, if I were you, I’d be ashamed to be linked to the posts I leave as well.”

Great!  We would both be ashamed to be linked to your posts!  I concur!  Do you concur?
