What’s really laughable is the notion of roves (Karl Roves!) of ILLEGAL TERRORIST IMMIGRANTS just massing on the southern border ready to invade at a moment’s notice wearing festively colored plastic explosives hidden ‘round their waists with ponchos.
It’s a leaky border and, yes, a national security issue. But the terrorist connection’s weak, Jeff – the only known, confirmed instance of terrorist crossing a land border was that fellow who got convicted acrossing the CANADIAN border, getting ready to bomb LAX.
If the argument for ILLEGAL TERRORIST IMMIGRANTS will be made by some TV network affliate (the best in news!), maybe there’s not much there to begin with.
I bet you your average Arab terrorist would stick out in Mexico like a cake sticking out at a fat man convention – it would get noticed and taken care of.

How much ready cash do you think it would take for a jihadi to solve that problem? You pay the coyote handsomely, and then what’s the problem again?
Oh, the fearsome, upstanding Mexican Police. Riiiiight.
If you have cash, there are much safer and easier ways to enter the country. The Mexican border is the most heavily guarded and dangerous point of entry, it just seems porous because so many people are so desperate to get in. Drug smugglers crossing the Mexican border by land are the bottom of the barrel, a jihadi with cash would most likely take a plane out of Columbia or a Jeep out of Canada.
And while we’re looking the other way because we’re all assuming the people coming in from Mexico are harmless…
How many do get in? The estimate is currently 12 million, I think. How did those 12 million plus get in, mainly?
I’m not suggesting it’s the easiest way in, but rather that being an Arab or the like isn’t going to stop you, especially if you’ve a few coins in your pocket.
If you have cash, why go via mexico? All the minutemen on the vermont border?
Granted that Jeff was just looking for an “in,” and didn’t make too big a deal out of …, what, the veracity of the evidence he adduced? Nevertheless, it’s unfair to his own point for him to tether it to this utterly risible Harlingen TV report. Surely someone who’s seriously concerned about border security must have better evidence at hand.
Also note that nothing in the report even purports to address or illustrate Jeff’s claim that ethnocentrism plays no significant role in contemporary immigration restrictionism. Weak satire directed at straw men is an evasion of the seriousness of the subject.
