“Donkeys Better Than Wives, Kids’ Book Says”

Well, those whacky “Others,” eh?  From Reuters:

A textbook used at schools in the Indian state of Rajasthan compares housewives to donkeys, and suggests the animals make better companions as they complain less and are more loyal to their “masters,” The Times of India reported Tuesday.

“A donkey is like a housewife … In fact, the donkey is a shade better, for while the housewife may sometimes complain and walk off to her parents’ home, you’ll never catch the donkey being disloyal to his master,” the newspaper reported, quoting a Hindi-language primer meant for 14-year-olds.

[…]

State education officials in Rajasthan, a western state known for its conservative attitude toward women, said people should not be upset by the comparison, the paper said.

“The comparison was made in good humor,” state education official A.R. Khan was quoted as saying. “However, protests have been taken note of and the board is in the process of removing it (the reference).”

Buried in here is an absolute gem of an “ass” sex joke, but I’ll be damned if I’m going to make it.

SEXIST!

No Denver Donkeys joke, either?  What kind of Broncs fan are you?!

At least there are no M*F* dinosaurs on housewives.  You’d think they’d bring up the M*F*ing “Dinosaur on a Donkey” threat.

This not being Wonkette, and all.

It isn’t the comparison that got me so much as the implication that a “complaining” wife is somehow “disloyal.” Remember, this is the land of acid attacks and wives being set on fire with kerosene if the housework isn’t perfect.

It’s fine to acknowledge this, as long as you remember we’re in no position to judge other cultures.

Question:  How is acthole going to go anti or negative on this post?  Maybe something about donkeys better than GOP women??

  9. For some folks, children’s textbooks and wives aren’t very far removed.

rls, I think that actus knows commenting about a donkey in any manner would be a conflict of interest, and thus prefers to recluse himself on this particular topic.

So India holds it’s wives (women) in contempt. But have you all noticed that India has had females in some of the highest positions of government?  We women in the US who are said to be ‘equal’ to men in all ways have just in the last half century managed to make it into the halls of Congress in very small numbers?  And just now have finally breached the ‘glass ceiling’ of the White House as other than a secretary or first lady?  There might just be something to being compared to a donkey!

  12. SPQR says:

JeffS, it would only be a conflict of interest with half of the donkey … the south end of the northbound donkey.

  13. Sticky B says:

I’ve been told that a donkey is less prone to suffer from a ruptured colon than is a wife. So, you know……. donkeys get the edge there too.

A bit of a stretch for an “ass sex” joke, but it’s all I got.

Hell, I should hope so.  Incredibly insulting to the donkey.  Worth two wives, at least…
