…but still. It’s nice to find you have your finger on the pulse of the body politic.
To wit: earlier this morning, I wrote:
I place the odds at 3-2 that some time today, some leftwing website will have found some law or statute that, if finessed in a particular wayâ€â€and if combined with a bit of speculative narrative filler that accounts, in a certain dubious way, for what took place during that “missing time†[the time many in the White House press corps were sucking down lime-wedged Bacardi and Diet Cokes and hitting on the waiters/waitresses/patrons in some Georgetown singles bar]â€â€absolutely proves that the Vice President has committed a criminal offense and should be “frogmarched†across the White House lawn. Preferably with Karl Rove and Andy Card tethered behind him in a kind of rightwing elephant march. If you will.
Earlier this evening, Allah alerted me to this post from Andrew Sullivan, in which Andrew shows that same chin-scratching hypothetical concern that made Tom Daschle so endearing:
He’s 78. He got hit in the face and body by a spray of tiny pellets. He’s back in intensive care. It’s not inconceivable that the vice-president may have accidentally killed someone. Let’s hope it doesn’t come to that. I don’t know Texas law; and I’m not a lawyer. But wouldn’t this be a case of something like negligent homicide? Maybe some Texas lawyers are out there; and could clarify.
Unfortunately, I’d predicted that a leftwing site would raise the issue (and Andrew, though his conservatism tends to swing like James Caan at the Vault Club, is nevertheless a Kerryesque conservative), and I predicted that the site in question would find some law or statute that would suggest, in the event certain conditions came to pass, the possibility of a criminal case being brought against the Veep.
Fortunately, one of his readers comes to my aid (via Ace):
‘Sec. 19.05.Criminally Negligent Homicide. (a) A person commits an offense if he causes the death of an individual by criminal negligence.
(b) An offense under this section is a state jail felony.
“Criminal negligence” is defined in Sec. 6.03(d) thusly:A person acts with criminal negligence, or is criminally negligent, with respect to circumstances surrounding his conduct or the result of his conduct when he ought to be aware of a substantial and unjustifiable risk that the circumstances exist or the result will occur. The risk must be of such a nature and degree that the failure to perceive it constitutes a gross deviation from the standard of care that an ordinary person would exercise under all the circumstances as viewed from the actor’s standpoint.
Now. Can there really be any doubt, your honor, that by virtue of wielding a loaded weapon—with the intent to fire it, and while in a field where other humans are gathered—Mr Cheney’s actions directly meet the conditions that for criminal negligence wherein the accused “ought to be aware of a substantial and unjustifiable risk that the circumstances exist or the result will occur.”
He was holding a loaded weapon, for Chrissakes! Read your Chekhov!
But I digress.
To be sure, when I wrote the post this morning I was being hyperbolic. But I’ll let you decide how far off I was. Because the leftwing media is beginning to float the trial balloon. Via Drudge:
NYT: CHENEY FACES GRAND JURY INVESTIGATION IF MAN DIES… In Texas, Carlos Valdez, the district attorney in Kleberg County, said a fatality would immediately spur a new report from the local sheriff and, most likely, a grand jury investigation… MORE…
Like Andrew, I know nothing of Texas law. It could very well be, in fact, that such a new report and grand jury investigation is mandatory in the case of a homocide (using the medical sense of the term). But that doesn’t matter here. Nor does it matter that such a grand jury investigation will reveal more about how the accident happened, which, from what I understand, was a failure on the part of Mr Whittington to announce his line location.
No. What matters here is only this: the appearance of scandal—which in this case will be presented in that same chin-scratching tone Andrew chose to pen his Socratic posts, so that the press doesn’t come off overly eager to see Cheney in ankle bracelets and being hosed down for lice.
But just think of it. The Vice President. Grand jury investigation.
Scooter Libby. Karl Rove. Valerie Plame. Tom Delay…
All so very very sad. But alas, all so very very predictable…
OT: Wasn’t able to get into your site this morning on or about 7:00 Tokyo Time. You and The Jawa seem to be takin’ turns. Is it a local issue confined to my region?
“and I predicted that the site in question would find some law or statute that would suggest, in the event certain conditions came to pass, the possibility of a criminal case being brought against the Veep.”
What do you mean by ‘find some law or statute’? Like it’s some digging to say that negligent homicide is treated criminally? Its not like he quoted you a real statute. Does it take a lefty to realize the obvious potential for criminal liability here?
Soooo, have they found the nitch for Bush in this yet?
I don’t know Texas law as well as say, a Texas lawyer does, but after having lived here for 45 years, I do know that the huge majority of grand juries in Tx recognize a hunting accident when they see one. Hell there doesn’t have to be a death. If someone thinks there was negligence involved they can charge him with some variety of criminal mischiouf (sp?) right now. Maybe that Kleberg county DA is a Ronnie Earl clone and will go for it. Of course South Tx, along with Austin is about the only part of the state that you could seat a jury, and have a chance to have more D’s than R’s. If you’re, you know, conspiracy minded that way.
Watching the press work this gig reminds me of how a bunch of high school girls act when they find out that their queen bee has just been dumped by the local studmuffin.
Note to Republicans: If you’re gonna hunt in Texas, stay west of the 100th parallel.
Oh well gee Actass, string him up. No really go for it, call for it, D E M A N D it!!!
This is actually great, In a strange way I think it may actually revive court reform. Liberals can’t go 2 days without finding some digression to sue or BLAME SOMEONE because CHARMIN wasn’t the brand used at their local sports stadium or some such.
Let the ass scratched ninnies scream the loudest!
Act-Ass, did ya know your old fat man waited 9 hours before he showered and put on his top siders before he waltzed (with handlers) into the local law enforcement and that a mere neighbor on the island called BEFORE TED walked in the door to report a car floating in the canal?
No, I’m sure you didn’t.
Just to be straight, this is the argument you are making IN SPITE OF THE FACT THAT Whittington made the error, and that it was a hunting ACCIDENT before the injuries became peripherally more life threatening.
Well, let me put it this way: yes, it does take a lefty to see see the “potential” (love that choice of words, by the way—tell me, did you rub your hands together and cackle with glee as you imagined an old man’s death and another’s “potential” criminal liability?) in such a thing, actus.
Because only a lefty would engage is such crass and morbid wishful thinking, then try to pawn it off as an “obvious” question that needs some deep delving into.
As I noted in the post earlier today, the facts found yesterday by the sheriff haven’t changed. Just the condition of the man who was shot. If there was no criminal negligence then, there shouldn’t be any in the event some further misfortune befalls Mr Whittington.
Does it take a lefty to realize the obvious potential for criminal liability here?
Why yes, yes it does. You do not get to make up your own definitions for legal terms of art. The facts do not support a case of criminal negligence under the law. But, by all means, continue pissing in the wind.
When will the lefties run out of marbles? Damn!
Because only a lefty would engage is such crass and morbid wishful thinking, then try to pawn it off as an “obvious†question that needs some deep delving into.
No doubt Jeff, I myself have been marveling at the sudden solidarity and brothers in arms the lefties (mostly fire dog lady) have found with a man, just last week they would have scorned as a right wing hack Halliburton war monger.
But now that Cheny has shot him, he has their payers.
Look, if there was negligence, and there was homicide, then this can be covered by a negligent homicide statue. Which IIRC not all states have. I’ve never hunted quail, but from reading a few freeper threads and others who talk of hunting its not so clear that the blame is all with the guy that got shot in the face. You tell me that’s not the case, and who am I to disbelieve you?
well, its potential because it depends on the presence of homicide and negligence.
That would depend on him violating a standard of care, if its standard negligence. It depends on how careless he was. I’ve read that he was. Other say he wasn’t. Thus, potential. What makes you say the facts don’t support a case of criminal negligence under the law?
The fact that a sheriff investigated the original incident and found none.
I’m done. You argue simply to act the contrarian.
But for your edification, I’ve included in the post the Texas statute.
Go to town. Make the narrative. And continue to ignore the irony that you are behaving precisely in the way my initial post predicted.
HAVE AT IT! I’m going to watch Saw II and then maybe Rashomon. Which seems somehow appropriate.
– I have a better question….What makes you such a contrarian asshole actout?…. Is this bowel movement of the post-it dumbass pointless rebound questions your idea of having a life?
– Nevermind….In your case I really don’t want to know what makes you tick tock tick tock tick tock tick tock…. ect.
– Wait….I just had a notion…..Maaaayyyybe there is no actus…. or more correctly its Goldstein posting through the weasly ‘dillo again…hes been known to do that sort of thing
GOLDSTEIN WE’RE ON TO YOU!
just for historical perspective, personal responsibility and the moral equivalinace and criminality issue lefties are straing to make

KENNEDY PASSENGER DIES IN CAR PLUNGE
By Richard Harwood and Paul Blackwell – Washington Post Staff writers
A car driven by Massachuetts Se. Edward M. Kennedy plunged off a narrow bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, Mass., killing Kennedy’s women passenger.
She was identified by Kennedy as Mary Jo Kopechne of Washington, a 28-year-old campaign worker who was spending the weekend on nearby Martha’s Vineyard Island.
The Senator was not physically injured in the accident. But his political career may have been gravely damaged.
Nearly nine hours went before Kennedy–“exhausted and in a state of shock” according tohis statement—walked into police headquarters at Edgartown on Marths’s Vineyard to report what had happened.
From Kennedy’s statement to police and from other sources THIS STORY EMERGED.
The Senator flew up to Martha’s Vineyard from Washington Friday to take part in the annual Edgartown sailing regatta, and to join his wife and family in Hyannisport this weekend.
Miss Kopechne, once secratary to the late Sen. Robert Kennedy, had gone to Martha’s Vineyard the day before with five girl friends to spend the weekend at the beach.
After sailing with in the regatta, went to Chappaquiddick to spend the evening at
Was he looking for negligence or something else? it was written off as an accident. That’s kind of what negligence looks like: carelessness. Think: could this be a tort, a civil suit? that’s negligence.
That’s the thing. You predicted that someone would say what this situation has the obvious potential to be. Its not that clever to see negligent homicide here, and its not that clever to think someone would see it either. But you write it up with ‘some statute’ and ‘some law’ as if this is some obscurity that is being dug up. It is ironic indeed. That you think yourself clever for picking out the obvious made obscure by your igonorance.
– Damaged…. Naw… If you’re a hard left Liberal theres always room for one more felon under the big tent…..
– come to think of it someone in the Dem leadership must have duct tapped Kennedrunks mouth shut. Hes been conspicuously absent through this whole bullshit kerfluffle…. Imagine that….
I’ve been reading this somewhere, and i’m hip this idea: The terrorists ought to start saying ‘our killing you is ok because ted kennedy blah blah blah.’ That would really prove they are paying attention to us. Its really a great argument.
Fernando Pessoa would approve.
– I remember thinking at the time I wished the RNC would outbid the Kennedy’s bribe so that disgusting piece of cow shit would have to stand trial. Then the next time we’d have had to ever hear about him again would have been a small article in the Boston Globe to announce they’d found him dead, drowned in his own vomit, in a South Station Irish pub. In some things there is no justice…..
just for historical perspective (this is how they used to REPORT, notice less spin and bias), and the personal responsibility , moral equivalence and criminality issues lefties are straining to make…keep in mind this story was a side bar on Sunday’s paper for an incident that happened the previous Friday night..(ie, WAY more than 18 hours)

KENNEDY PASSENGER DIES IN CAR PLUNGE
By Richard Harwood and Paul Blackwell – Washington Post Staff writers
A car driven by Massachusetts Se.
Nearly nine hours went before Kennedy–“exhausted and in a state of shock” according tohis statement—walked into police headquarters at Edgartown on Martha’s Vineyard to report what had happened.
From Kennedy’s statement to police and from other sources THIS STORY EMERGED.
The Senator flew up to Martha’s Vineyard from Washington Friday to take part in the annual Edgartown sailing regatta, and to join his wife and family in Hyannisport this weekend.
Miss Kopechne, once secretary to the late Sen. Robert Kennedy, had gone to Martha’s Vineyard the day before with five girl friends to spend the weekend at the beach.
After sailing with in the regatta, Kennedy went to Chappaquiddick to spend the evening at a cottage with friends, whose identities have not been disclosed, Miss Kopechne was among those at the gathering.
Between 11PM and Mid-Night, Kennedy left the cottage in his car to return to his room at the Shiretown Inn in Edgartown.
Miss Kopechne, who was staying at another hotel at Edgartown, rode with him.
As Kennedy was approached the road leading to the ferry that connects Chappaquiddick Island with Martha’s Vineyard, he made a wrong turn. After driving for about a half-mile he came to a small bridge that spans an inlet. The bride is only 101/2 feet wide, has no railings, and is used primarily by fisherman traveling in jeeps and beach buggies.
The car went off the bridge and, according to Kennedy’s statement to Police, “turned over and sank into the water and landed with the roof resting on the bottom”
“I turned to open the door and window of the car but have no recollection of how I got out of the car,” he reported.
“I came to the surface and repeatedly dove down to the car in am attempt to see if the passenger was still in the car. I was unsuccessful in the attempt. I was exhausted and in a state of shock”
After abandoning his efforts to rescue Miss Kopechne, the Senator said, he walked to the cottage where he had spent the evening. His friends, he said, were having dinner (?), and he got into the back seat of a car parked at the cottage.
Later, one of his friends drove him back to Edgarstown, where Kennedy recalled “walking around for a period of time and then going back to my hotel room”
At about 8:20am, Edgarstown Police Chief Dominick Arena got a call from Mrs. Pierre Maulm, whose house on Chappiquiddick is about 100 yards from the accident scene. She reported an overturned car in the water, submerged except for the wheels….
It goes on a bot, but the questions
“Several aspects of the incident remained unexplained last night. There was no explanations, for example, of the nine hour lapse between time the accident occurred and Kennedy’s first contact with police.
So it happened like 11pm to 12 am Friday, and the press didn’t get briefed till Sat, night —and only by the Local Law enforcement (horrors!!!!!!!) and they still had the same questions! David Gregory should investigate the press black out here.
Sorry so long Jeff, bit the difference is striking.
bot and bit should be replaced with bit and but.
Forest hunter —
My site went down for about an hour or so in the afternoon. The problem was w/ my host, not anything on your end.
Hmmmm….. notice you never see Goldstein and actus post at the same time….and that offhand reference to a turn of the century Pantheistic Transcendentalist poet was a dead givaway….
FESS UP GOLDSTEIN!!!…..
Actus —
That was the dumbest response I’ve ever heard. It relies on the initial investigation being all wrong, and on all the witnesses being unsure about what an “accident” is. And it relies on you and your fellow-travelers using the word “potential” like a talisman. “Potential” is always open-ended. Like every argument you make. It’s a joke. And so are you.
And no, I wasn’t being clever. In fact, my claiming cleverness was the joke—the irony being that it took no cleverness whatsoever to predict exactly how you’d try to spin this. You are a parody of a parody of yourelf.
Incidentally, I don’t much care for the “ignorance” comment. This site has had pet trolls before and it’ll find them in the future. So you you might want to watch yourself, because I don’t believe that paying for people to call me names falls under any free speech protections you might think you have here.
There’s your warning.
– Ok. If you insist on talking to yourself I’m going to chrash. because after all…. “Tommahwow is anuthah dayee”….
Jeff: Thanks for the info and I’ll apologize in advance for my long post and a couple words!
Not that facts have all that much to do with any witch hunt, but what if the facts – those are things – oh never mind. Rabid dogs really don’t worry much about facts either, but all this ululating about the Vice President of the United States, from the incoherent means exactly ….in’ what? As I said before, if Mr. Whittington has family (and at 78 years of age, WITHOUT FACTS, I’m just guessing that he might), wouldn’t, no, shouldn’t their rights supersede the rights of the pompous fucks that can’t wait to tear into another man, who by the way is the VP, apart from feeling bad for his friend. Lighten the fuck up, you heartless pukes. I would give you the same respect and courtesy, if you were in the same spot. I never once jumped on Clinton when he was abusing the office, because he was CIC and I believe in the UNITED STATES-not the Divided States. Dolt’s like Actus perform this kind of elementary crap on a daily basis and though you can expect this of some children, it’s not supposed to found in adults. Hence the term…..I don’t need to run down the first street screaming about me, me , me and burn down the nearest embassy because I’m unable to understand the meaning of RESPECT and HONOR or harass our military funerals or any other or….
You jerks just keep screwin’ with the only people that stand between you and your extinction! It’s your right! And ta hell with everyone else! RIGHT! RIGHT!
Judgement over laws should prevail, as laws were created to guide those who don’t have the skill to guide themselves or the desire to behave civilized. Can you say KATRINA! Look at that crap if you have questions why laws were made. They need the pressure of someone like me keepin’ ‘em straight. I’m good at it. It’s called fear and because of mutual respect, it’s a good kind of fear. RESPECT-HONOR look them up and see just how much of that applies to your personal life and habits! I’ll not hazard a guess as to how little or what might apply to the rabid mobs, as the only facts I have are based on history, which has escaped too many of the drones bent on the destruction of the US!
forest hunter,
I am with you on the anger. Personally, I think the major problem our side has had is being too PC with the lefties.
We really need to start looking at current events beyond politics. We really do.
Which is why I said this prissy PCness and politics need to be round filed (way too much nob gobblin’ for people like me) and start over with Respect and have some Honor. Therein lies the key to the legitimacy of being truly mindful of those around us. I’m the nicest guy you’ll ever meet and guilty to a fault of being overly cautious when it comes to the concerns of others or your worst enemy.
Without over simplifying the case for my stance, it’s the old adage of screw me or mine over once, my fault. Second time – not likely.
EXDemocrat: What are you still doing awake at this hour?
I’m a nightowl.
I guess I am just past looking at what they are doing as no big deal. Things are getting dangerous and we are at a war. I also have a huge problem with our government not being able to do the job of looking out for our security. I also see the government as the experts and not the screaming lefties.
In my opinion, the lefties are out to distroy us and we are laughing at them. I don’t see people getting pissed and it’s getting me pissed.
So, same question to you?
I’m on Tokyo Time.
The reasons are too numerous to mention, but basically the dumbing down of America has been an ongoing process for a lot longer than I’d care to admit. The afore mentioned scarcity of values needed to rise above the resultant excrement has been “beaten” out of the heads of America’s youth in large part and no thanks to our very own universities.
Why there are not enough people getting pissed (visibly) has an equally vast range of reasons. Fears seem to be the basis for shunning good values and sense. A hybrid logic has been created over generations that has gutted and nutted the real strength and power of America. It will take blood and a lot of it, running in the streets of America, before the veiled fallacies begin to fall and the real deal comes home to roost on the door steps of American homes. I fear very little but that would scare the piss out of me to have red blooded Americans coming after me!
Wake up call was served a long time ago but basically, we are just too comfortable.
The working man has been to busy working and trust defiled has made him bitter. This will require more than several terms of any Presidency, in spite of Condi’s best efforts. Too bad Perot was forced out. That would’ve been some interesting times to have lived in!
How come it might only be a crime if Mr. Whittington dies? It is really possible for a shooting to only be a crime if it is fatal, actus?
I totally agree with you. I have made mention at times, that a civil war here in American is not something people should think of as “only history”. Civil Wars come about for many reasons. But, I believe the major one is a misbalance of values. Not the type of values that most people would think of automatically. But, the values that encompass patriotism and love of country.
Without these values, there is nothing to keep citizens in check. As we have seen, when large groups of people do not hold these values, they are willing to go beyond the “line”. Our country should be able to come together when it is facing danger. It is only as a whole that we can have the strength to battle major enemies.
At this time, our country is split. That split has caused weakness. That weakness could very well put us in grave danger. At a point, when those of us who do hold those values see this danger, it is we who will ultimately need to stand up to fight it. Survival instincts will kick in and those that try to stop us will quite frankly be bowled over.
The left does not see things as we do now. Because they are tuned inward. The condition of the country as a whole is not their number one priority.
People, you must open your eyes to the fact there that there is a pattern here. When our Dark Lord wants something, he takes you on a hunting trip, and if you resist… Cheney and Tenet in Wyoming, Feb. 2002? I’d bet on it.
Heh, democrats just like saying the words “criminal liability”.
Also, a Texas judge is likely to throw this out of court. As noted, they’re going to know a hunting accident when they see one.
Odd. They’re never able to say it when they’re talking about Democrats.
Must be one of those vanity things. You know, unable to look in the mirror.
By a law enforcement official. Who has the duty to investigate such accidents.
actus, I’ve concluded that every argument of yours that I’ve read is based one single premise: “There’s something fishy here, and no one called me to ask my opinion.”
A self-centered paranoid conspiracy theorist. If you are truly a lawyer, I pity your clients.
I’m using potential in the sense that it would depend on the facts of the case. In the sense that if these facts were on a law school exam, you’d want this potential discussed. It would depend on how careless he was.
Then I have no idea why you’re patting yourself on the back for predicting the obvious. For pointing out the discussion that naturally follows. Its like saying “how long till somoene mentions some rule of hunting violated?” Not long. We all want to know and we all want to share our knowledge.
Its not an insult to say you lack knowledge of something when you exhibit that lack of knowledge. I’m ignorant of hockey and the religious clauses of the first amendment. Others are ignorant of some basics about the law. I’ve been told I’m ignorant of hunting and shot patterns. I’ve learned a bit about the latter 2 over the past few days. People familiar with basic ideas of criminal law wouldn’t make your mistake. But most people, ignorant of these basic ideas, would.
What other sense are you using it in?
I’ve heard this trial baloon being floated by the white house. But I’ve also read threads over at freerepublic.com that shot it down. Sounds like the kind of thing we have a justice system to determine.
Presented without comment:
Hoplophobia (pronounced HOP-li-fobia), from the Greek hoplon, or weapon, is a phobia identified by firearms instructor Colonel Jeff Cooper in 1962. His intent was to satirically use a clinical term to bring public recognition of the irrational fear of firearms. He stated that “the most common manifestation of hoplophobia is the idea that instruments possess a will of their own, apart from that of their user”. Hoplophobia is deemed to be a cultural side effect of those who engage in the primordial human belief systems that anthropologists refer to as “Animism”, or the belief that inanimate objects can hold spirits that can effect human actions.
“A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity.”
— Sigmund Freud, “General Introduction to Psychoanalysis”.
Sarah Thompson, M.D., author of “Raging Against Self Defense: A Psychiatrist Examines The Anti-Gun Mentality” disputes the assertion the condition denoted by the word Hoplophobia is a true mental illness, in part because people who are truly phobic acknowledge their fears are irrational, while most people who have an irrational fear of firearms refuse to acknowledge its irrationality. She argues the irrational fear of firearms is manifest as a constellation of defense mechanisms.
– Apparently VP Cheney has decided to end the wall of silence finally, and speak to the general “hunting accident story” by granting an interview to Brit Hume on FOX this afternoon. The open animosity between the gadfly Washington press corps and the Bush White house is reminiscent of the Nixon years. Could be thats one of the reasons that every time the WH acts to control the disemenation of news, the scandal/conspiracy fruitcakes hold sway. That plus the tendency of the rabid anti-Bush press to make a “WaterGate” out of every bicicyle accident. This private interview will bo doubt be seen as yet another snub to the Royal AmeriKan press.
Right on, mojo. Pursuant disorder and the political left, that Kennedy report is equally nauseating.
The fucking car did it.
Meanwhile this asshope actus begs questions:
The shotgun did it, moron. That and the little birds. There is obviously neither negligence nor crime here.
Jeff, one of the things—two actually—I respect about you are your tolerance for children thread-shitting your website and your refusing to moderate the fuckers into PW oblivion.
These characteristics I greatly respect even as I push the limit of decency myself.
But I have to wonder just where your limits lie. I am beginning to find where mine do.
Lastly, I stand and applaud forest hunter for his outstanding perspective summary, posted from Japan, no less:
I attempted to say the same thing yesterday.
Fuck you actus. You’ve gone too far; trolling, baiting, joking or what-not. I invite you to take up residence elsewhere. You have infinitely less cause to be in the US than those who are not.
I apologize for the language, Jeff, but I really wonder. You’re a better man than I for tolerating this bullshit.
tw: Direct. Damn straight.
Damn! I love a pissing contest!
– Be a damn sight more interesting if the opposition actually had a weinie in the fight instead of just passing gas MikeD….
Especially when actus shows up unarmed.
You’re quicker than I am BGH! I need to combine thoughts better.
– Thinking back I can remember that everyone west of P town was snickering into their hands when the Kennedy’s put out the story of Teddy boy getting “lost”. The common word on the street was that Mary-Jo was a designated political groupie and knob polisher, and Kennedrunk, well wasted on booze and drugs, was looking for one of the many “parking” spots when he drove off the bridge. The other “party goers”, mostly moneyed blue bloods, called in all the markers to keep any mention of their names out of the press, and the hard fix worked pretty well ,except locals from the area knew who they were. Formal boating regallias were back shelved for years after that. Which just goes to show what a scam the entire Liberal gaggle embraces when they talk about the little guy against the establishment. The Kennedy’s have been a 700 pound “little guy” gorilla in Mass. politics since Father Joe made his fortune running illegal rum boats off the coast during prohibition. Just one of the many breath-taking hipocricies practiced daily by the left to appeal to the “little guy” mentality of their adherents.
Hey SixGun, TopSecret.
What’s the Statute Of Limitations for Murder?
For whom?
The NYT is just passing time until they publish the new Abu Ghraib photos.
Oh don’t worry. I live in the OG colony: DC. You don’t have to hear from me in the House or the Senate. Can you imagine it? Ever see that scene in 48 hours where Eddie Murphy walks into the bar? Lorrrd-ee wouldn’t that be a sight to see.
And guns don’t kill people, people do. And gun control means hitting your target. And Mojo even gives us some psychobabble:
Odd, how lines of thought converge, even if from different directions:
TW: I find it quite interesting that some of the same people who are wondering how Republicans like Bush and Cheney can get elected, reelected, or can continue to hold office after heinous crimes such as this peppering of Whittington by Cheney hold Ted Kennedy as some sort of hero, or simply have failed to call loudly for his removal.
Slart – I think the premise that the “irony” gene is missing from Liberal DNA is a pretty well accepted fact by now….
I think we have the makings of a book of natural law, here:
Theorem 1: If it’s your political opponent, there’s a coverup if you can’t prove there was. If you can prove there was, it’s a failed coverup.
If it’s your political ally, it’s either a timely disclosure or an unavoidably, an explicably delayed disclosure, or a leak your opponents have seized upon for political advantage.
Theorem 2: irony is only visible to the uninvolved.
Well, maybe only visible to those who can be amused by it. But you catch my drift, I hope.
The best comments are the ones you just copy and paste.
Observe.
Big Bang Hunter:
And when I confronted actus with said irony,
…s/he replies:
Hysterical. Absurdly funny. actus is a ‘bot.
We can’t be ironic together? Can’t we cross irony lines? It can’t be ironic that the NRA’s mantra is perfectly reflected in Dick’s shooting a guy in the face? Perfect in that photo negative way, Dick black, ground white, and the mantra is like the light shining through the negative, and forming the picture?
I took that a little differently, 6Gun: that was actus parroting NRA-ish lines back. I think the irony was supposed to work the other way, there.
Feeble, I thought, but not quite as lame as you took it.
– Looks like someone has lost track of time and doubled up on his meds again….
And there it is.
TW: stop the chin music, and try being non-ironic for a while.
Update on Whittingtons condition on FOX right now….
I don’t know, I don’t see any evidence that there’s even that much depth, Slartibartfast…
actus is ‘Wisdom’s own Patti Hurst; slowly conforming to a love of being abused at gunpoint just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
IT’S ALL BECAUSE OF THE
GUNSFASCIST VICE PRESIDENTS!Its not the fascism. its the fratboyism.
Really. How so?
WHERE IS THE DISCUSSION OF THE QUAIL’S CULPABILITY IN ALL THIS?
That feathered little bastard should be held to account for flushing in front of Whittington’s head…
I don’t think our admin is run by fascists. I think its run by fratboys. never liked ‘em.
– Ok….might as wll join in the fun…..
“Dans name keeps coming up, but I don’t see any reporters digging for the story behind THAT!”
– coverup coverup coverup…..
TW: We all live in a yeller submarine…..
Aha! Because of the fratboy-hatred!
And we all know how fratboys like to pepper each other with birdshot when they’ve had a few, just as a prank.
Hamas elected by Palis. (yawn)
Iran has nukes. (nothing to see)
Eurasia on fire. (move along)
Former VP Gore commits blatant treason. (pass the chips)
Cheney in hunting accident. STOP THE PRESSES!!!
I prefer to think of that as Gore’s Haitian Divorce, myself, but the analogy is a little strained. What’s Gore going to give birth to, that will give the whole thing away?
– Hey don’t knock the Liberal Frenchies idea to cut down on fuel consumption and protect the environment. It would have caught on too, but Germany didn’t feel burning all the cars was the answer…..
I just listened to Lanny Davis on CNBC saying, with a straight face, that there was no real story here but that there was a coverup that would be worse and worse, and that Cheney talking on Fox this afternoon wouldn’t be enough….
Right up there with HRC talking about secrecy.
– I still think Cheney shot the wrong Quayle….
In this context, what’s a fratboy, actus?
– Its a Skulls club thing 6Gun…..They shoot each other as part of the initiation ritual…..
– Watching the spectical in the press and reading the typical DU comments, its pretty obvious the hard left has decided if they can’t win elections and control the Dem party then they’ll drive it right into the ground.
Didn’t you have them in college? or did you go to some weenie no-frat school?
Nah. Its more generic than that.
Well, this is their position in regards the entire country, so it’s not surprising they’ve taken it in regards the party.
– Aside from trying to draw attention away from their unguided missle, Mohammud al-Gore, they’re also hoping the continueous nattering and great hature in the press will do the same to Bush’s post SOTU speaking tour. We’ll see how successful that plan is as the week goes on.
actus, shall we dance around like this all day?
See, I keep offering you perfect opportunities to be clear, concise, illuminating—even corrective. Just because I despise simpering leftist mendacity and its terminal self-contradiction doesn’t mean things need to stay that way.
Do have a go at answering something completely and factually.
– Oh and the Hackett kerfluffle and inside struggle between the Liberal factions. You add all of that to the possibility of getting Wilson on the stand under oath, and whatever may come out as the NYT and “leakers” get their public upbraiding, so far 2006 is not shaping up as a Kodak moment year for the moonbat party….
I vote that we charge Cheney with Negligent Third Degree Murder/Necrophilia (yeah, what was that whole 18 hour gap about?), even before the man dies.
Then I vote that we convict him.
Then I vote that Prez BusHitler pardons him. That way all of the leftists’ heads will explode at once, immediately bringing Medicare and Social Security into more manageable parameters.
This is the best thing that’s ever happened to the America!!!!
I would like to remind the peanut gallery that actus loves the cock, i.e. is gayer than three-horse show of Thai benny-boys with really soft hands doing a jazzercise rendition of Stomp!
Actus is the pivot-man of the Protein Wisdom circle-jerk.
– Rep Sasser on FOX….
– “So what do you think about this whole firestorm in the press….”
Sasser: “Well as you know I’ve been very critical of the president and the vice president over the policies of getting us into this illegal war in iraq with Americans dying every day….and the theres the fact that 60 million Americans do not have any health care and….”
– “But what about this issue we’re talking about….the hunting accident….by the way I see that emails we’re getting from viewers are running over 90% where their feeling that the Vice President should tell the press to mind their own business basically, now that the facts are known…just specifically how do you feel about it…”
Sasser: “…Well why aren’t we talking about the real issues…. This whole thing is a tempest in a teapot…”
– Is this sime sort of code to the base to put a cork in it? Will the Royal AmeriKan Press take heed? Will the University ever find a viable way to can Churchills subversive ass? Will Tipper tell al-Gore just to shut the fuck up? Will Cheney be able to clear up all of the mystery surrounding the “Bunker of secrecy”? Will McDonalds rebuild in Pakastan?…. Stirring important questions of our time.
As little overlap actus and I have, opinion-wise, and regardless of how I feel about his behavior here, I don’t think that the shit-throwing is necessary, Vercingetorix. Nor, in my view, admirable.
I sometimes suspect that as a lawyer, actus comes here to hone his skill at arguing lost causes.
Are you a defense lawyer actus?
Oh, Slart, don’t be so hard on the beaver…I’m teasing him about an earlier thread, where actus’ routine made me throw up my hands in exasperation that any literate entity could be so dense. Hence, funny. Not funny, haha, but funny…
If I made actus go running home, crying, for offending his feewings, well, I’m over it.
Cheerio.
Leave it to leftists to not think long-term. If, because of their “outrage” over this, VP Cheney is forced to resign, President Bush will have to appoint another VP–someone who would actually plan to run for president in 2008 and has a chance of beating Senator Clinton. Rudy Giuliani, anyone.
So keep on screeching, leftists. Everytime you do, you play right into the Right’s hands.
Its just a generalized feeling I get against him that I had against fratboys. Thats it. Nothing specific conspiracy minded.
I couldn’t stomach criminal work period.
When I hit the spacebar, the text rolls off the screen guy. Its like Jeff says about identity politics: it fucks up the discourse. Tempest in teapot real issues and all.
But maybe you have some fratty experience too.
Because of my aversion to this, I try to limit myself to eating no more than two or three hands at a sitting.
But point taken; I recall the occasion. But: consider that if actus is doing something that you consider to be wrong, stupid, etc, then you’re compounding the sin.
Not wanting to be thread-nanny, though, that’s all I have to say about that.
– Watching Hume relate a preview and some cuts on video with his interview with Cheney I’m buying it. Even though I’m sure the usual suspects will climb the walls hoping not to suffer yet another shortfall in the BDS marathon.
– Fist off Cheney accepts full responsibility for what happened.
– Second the intervening time to go public took a back seat to the welfare of the injured man. (BTW it appears that AP had it by 3 pm Sunday, so the real bitching stems f4rom the Sunday talk shows missing a good chance tyo go to town on Cheney with a lot of wild speculation and hyperbole)
– Lastly releasing the news through the ranch owner to a local newspaper. He didn’t come right out and say point blank, “you know how thw MSM will try to spin this”. What he did say he felt that the Ranch owner, an ex-Game and wildlife high official, first hand witness to the whole incident, would be the best person to relate the initial information for the purposes of accuracy. Based on the track record of the Press in general, and this administration in particular, I absolutely agree with him.
So the bottom line is that all the uproar comes down to:
– The Royal Press didn’t get the scoop, but instead some “menial” small town paper. Liberal snobbery at its best.
– In not getting the very first releases of incomplete information the brain surgeons of the MSM mised any chance of spinning and wild speculation.
– The press doesn’t give a damn about the seriousness of the accident, or the health of the guy who got shot, or the trauma this must have caused and still is causing the VP. the story was “Them” and how they were denyed there constitutional right to a hatchet job opportunity.
– Bullshit. If its any indication email responses are coming in at over 95% supporting the VP.
Good luck with that moonies…..
Scottie was repeating this line too. The entire PR apparatus of the executive branch helped that guy get to the hospital.
THE QUAIL DAMMIT, THE QUAIL IS THE KEY!
Has anyone researched the political affiliations of this reckless avian? Could he be a covert Democrat political operative? Do you really think it’s a mere coincidence that groups of them are called coveys?
Have you noticed that quail are also referred to as Bobwhite, and that “Bob White” of Wylie, Texas has a 2003 obituary listed on the Daily Dunklin Democrat?!
http://www.dddnews.com/story/1054441.html
Was this “death” a fraudulent attempt to cover-up, in advance, a nefarious future plot against a sitting Vice-President?
HMMMMMMMM?
Have we even heard mention of the fate of the quaking quail in question? Is he alive? If so, where is he?
I SMELL SETUP FOLKS!
– Well that, and they didn’t want to give the rabid anti-Bush press incomplete bits and pieces they would just use to try to spin it anyway they could. Hell even with all the facts they’re still hunting and pecking trying to spin. They got the facts in a way that they couldn’t manipulate, and thats why they’re pissed. Pure and simple. Most Americans think the VP did the right thing. The left is raising being on the wrong side of every issue to an art form. Like I said…. Good luck….
I csn just picture the way the MSM would have handled this if they’d have been fed the info as it happened…. NYT Sunday headline:
“VP Cheney Shoots Texas lawyer in spat over game”
Breaking – Sources travling with the Vice Presidents hunting party say that a shooting occured on a privately owned ranch in Texas yesterday afternoon. Unconfirmed reports say a dispute arouse over the ownership of one of the game birds brought down during the hunt, and that during the argument the VP’s firearm discharged, hiting another member of the party. There is some indication there had been heavy drinking among the attendees during the day. Observers on the scene say the injuries are serious enough the victim of the shooting may not survive. The man, a local prominent lawyer, was transported to a local hospital and is in intensive care. Information concerning the details of his wounds and condition has not been released. The VP was hussled away by the Secret Service, and is in seclusion. No interviews are being permitted, nor have any press releases been provided thus far by the VP’s staff….more as it becomes available…
Its scary to live in your world, isn’t it?
– No actus. Thats your world. Your left-wing Press. Your cynical way of trying to use every possible public information channel to get Bush. When it doesn’t work, and you get bit on the ass you get snippy. But who could blame you. At something like 0 and 18, the Left has had ample opportubity to be snippy for the past 6 years…
Its scary in there. Till a democrat gets a blowjob.
– If you want to “settle” on it thats your business. My door doesn’t swing that way sport. to each his own….
– In the mean time if thats an admission that the bias and untrustworthyness of the press has become so apparent even you don’t care to try to pretend anymore, it would have to mark a red letter day in the “annals” of PW…. so to speak….
– Thats the nicest way I can put it so I don’t get Slart all over my case….*chuckle*
TW: If the reader can sort through all the hidden meanings of the above then it was worth it….
Thought I’d drop by one more time…
Still polishing that Stockholm Syndrome I see.
Carry on.
tw: Expect.
BANG!
You really can’t pretend the massive amount of anti-war voices we saw in the media back in 03.
