Okay, what is it with Russian mobsters and bone shivs in fiction?
Daredevil on Netflix: Three Russian brothers are in a Russian prison. One is beaten to death by the guards and left in the cell to rot. The two remaining brothers open the dead one’s remains up and make shivs out of his ribs to kill the guards and escape.
The Blacklist season I: Berlin escapes from a Siberian prison where his daughter is being sent to him in pieces to torment him. He makes a shiv from her shin, uses it to escape and then kills people with it later on.
The Blacklist season II, a woman being held by Berlin’s men uses a shiv made from a chicken bone to try and escape, stabbing her captor in the face with it.
This is an image that recurs too much to be coincidence. So what is the original source of bones as weapons in Russian mobster stories? Maybe a Ludlum book? Is there a history channel documentary about the Bratva that has this story in it? How did this enter the writer’s box of Russian mobster tropes?

I believe the chicken thing started in Kiev.
The chicken was stabbed to death with a shaped stick of butter. It was frozen very hard though.
