Follow-up on Trump’s raising money for Vets: Weeks later, Veteran’s groups haven’t received a thing [Darleen Click]

Remember, all donations went to Trump’s own foundation … should we be surprised to learn that after all the hoopla has died down, the money has stayed with Trump?

A Trump website set up a day before the rally to receive donations said as of Thursday nearly $1.7 million was raised online, which Mr. Trump said reached $6 million in total with other donations, but the campaign didn’t disclose how much was raised that night. The day after the event, his campaign promised to quickly send the cash to nearly two dozen groups and soon presented a handful of them oversize novelty checks for $100,000 from his foundation.

But those big checks can’t be cashed, and two weeks later some of the groups are just now beginning to get paid. […]

While one nonprofit said it received a check immediately after the event, most of the groups said they hadn’t heard from the Trump foundation about payment for weeks, which a philanthropy expert described as uncommon.

Some of the groups this week received checks, at least one of which appeared to have been sent after questions to the Trump campaign from The Wall Street Journal about the pending payments.

In an interview Wednesday, Mr. Trump said “a lot of the money was sent” already and criticisms are unfounded because he had no obligation to raise the funds. “Out of the goodness of my heart, I raised millions of dollars for the vets,” he said.

Um, until those dollars are passed on, they are Trump’s and his alone. A nice pool of liquid funds.

The Donald seems to have a lot in common with his dear friend.

Might want to be careful with, ah, misleading headlines like that Darleen, the Donald has sued people for less.

Misleading? Until the WSJ started asking questions only one group out of (how many? Dozens?) had received anything.

Don’t fall into the camp that answers each new and continuing incidence of Islamist terrorism with “But what about Christian terrorism, huh? Huh?”

That’s some nice liquidity in his own 501 charity … and the Clintons have shown just how that can be used.

So Mr. “GWB & the neo-cons LIED about WMD and is responsible 9/11” can kiss my fluffy grandma ass.

Personally, I don’t believe for a second Trump plans on ripping off the money raised for vets. I’m pretty sure he passed it through his own foundation because that’s where his attorneys are, busy no doubt working long hours filling and filing required paperwork so as not to run afoul of the IRS.

Also, if you’ll remember, at the time of the event, news was breaking on how certain veterans groups were not exactly being good stewards of their donations (*cough* Wounded Warriors *cough*), and perhaps he is insuring The best possible use of those donations he is responsible for.

The point though, is the story within your own post belied your headline. I get that you hate Trump with the heat of a thousand suns, but sounding hysterical does your crusade no good.

Just some friendly advice, you’ll thank me later…

I don’t “hate” Trump. I don’t trust him, I find him unserious and I don’t find him sincere on his stances; especially when they are vague and/or contradictory.

Disagreement =/= hate. I refuse to adopt the lexicon of the Left in that regard.

I’m sure the Clinton’s aren’t out for “ripping off” the people they claim they are helping through their foundation, too, but there you have it — X money collected, Y money distributed where Y is a very small percentage of X.

It’s why I won’t contribute a dime to the Red Cross either. They, too, like to hang on to donations given specifically for one cause and use them where they see fit.

I want to vote for someone who will appoint the next Scalia to the court, not the next Ginsburg. Will Trump do it?

I’m really hoping President Trump puts Cruz on the Supreme court.

Being in bed politically with Code Pink and happyfeet would have to make for some very long, hot, teary showers in the morning.

What you have to understand is that Trump is a busy man. He’s got priorities. Defending his honor from the RNC and other assorted lying plotters and schemers. Protecting the integrity of our elections from lying Canadian interlopers.

    priorities man

  14. Being such a lying liar, I make Gaius Marius Pompey Trump Magus’s life a living Hell [or ‘Avernus’, if you prefer].

  15. Ernst Schreiber says:

Like Marius and Pompey (and Sulla and Caesar) Trump is the product of the breakdown of conventional political mores. But that’s about all they have in common.

  16. I did not mean to imply that Trump Magnus is the reincarnation of either Marius or Pompey in actual details, but, rather, I see him as in possession of many of the same attitudes and employing many of the same tactics as those Tyrants had and used.

Apologies for the drive-by nature of my comment above.

I’m gonna have to push back on that one Lee.

I’ve personally benefited greatly from The Wounded Warrior Project and I know many more vets that feel the same way.

Unlike the SEE BS reported 60%, the WWP actually puts 80.5 % of its donations into alumni services (not bad for an organization that is still expanding) and most of the sources that reported inappropriate actions by the charity were by former employees that were fired for integrity/theft issues.
